Don't let the Past Keep you from Living your Best Life - Pastor Johnny Marten

The call to forget what is behind starts with Paul in Philippians, but Paul does not speak as a man who had it easy. Paul could have looked like a spiritual giant from far away, the man who wrote so much of the New Testament and had a clear calling from God. But Paul’s own story says, “Woah, woah, wait just a minute.” His life was not smooth. His past included persecuting believers, getting people killed, being whipped, beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, hungry, cold, and finally writing about joy and pressing on while sitting in prison. Jesus met Paul on the road to Damascus and changed everything. Jesus showed him that all his religious confidence was wrong, and Jesus also forgave him when Paul saw himself as one of the biggest sinners of all. Because Christ had taken hold of him, Paul could say one thing mattered now: forgetting what is behind and reaching toward what is ahead. The past did not get to be the boss anymore. The same question then presses on the heart: what is the one thing a person wishes could be moved on from? A bad decision may have cost friendships, family, marriage, or money. A wound from someone else may still be there, whether abuse, a cold word, a lie, a broken promise, or manipulation. God can forgive, but the heart still has to face whether it will receive that forgiveness and move forward. Unresolved bitterness keeps proving itself when a person says, “I already forgave,” but keeps waking up with the same complaint, dumping it on whoever will listen. The picture of the low spot on a property makes it plain. Pumping water out over and over does not fix the problem if water keeps flowing in from the same corner. The dam has to go where the water is coming from. In the same way, peace often requires going to the person where the hurt came from and talking it through, even if the conversation is uncomfortable. Philippians 4 gives another way forward: “Do not worry about anything,” but pray about everything with thanksgiving. Worry over things that cannot be controlled only steals the day. Prayer puts the matter in God’s hands, and God’s peace guards the heart and mind in Christ Jesus. The mind also has to choose what it chews on: whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Today has to be received as today. Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is not promised. Paul knew need and plenty, hunger and fullness, but he learned contentment because Christ gave him strength. The deepest point is not just knowing Bible stories. A personal relationship with Christ is where the strength comes from to stand firm, pray, forgive, make peace, and live forward.

Gospel Inheritance - Pastor Bradley Peters

Pastor Bradley Peters explores what it means to leave behind a gospel inheritance—a legacy that extends far beyond material wealth, personal accomplishments, or even national prosperity. Preaching during America's 250th anniversary celebration, he draws a connection between the inheritance passed down through generations in a nation and the far greater spiritual inheritance believers are called to preserve and pass on. Beginning with Isaiah's call to rejoice in God's salvation, Pastor Bradley reflects on the blessings of living in a nation that has historically protected religious freedom and allowed the gospel to be proclaimed openly. While expressing gratitude for these earthly blessings, he reminds the church that the greatest inheritance Christians possess is not political or economic freedom, but the eternal salvation secured through Jesus Christ. Using Psalm 78 as the foundation of the message, he emphasizes God's command to intentionally teach each new generation about His mighty works. Faith is never meant to remain private or stop with one generation. Parents, grandparents, and every believer share the responsibility of passing on God's truth so that children and future generations will know Him and place their hope in Him. Throughout the sermon, Pastor Bradley contrasts society's obsession with novelty and temporary success against the wisdom handed down through Scripture and faithful believers who came before us. Jesus Himself continually pointed back to what had been taught "long ago" while revealing its fullest meaning, showing that God's truth is timeless and builds upon the faithful testimony of previous generations. The message challenges listeners to consider what legacy they are building. Careers, possessions, and accomplishments will eventually fade, but every act of faithfulness, every gospel conversation, every prayer, and every act of love can have eternal significance. Pastor Bradley paints a vivid picture of heaven where believers may one day discover how seemingly small moments of obedience influenced countless lives across generations, creating an eternal inheritance that only God can fully measure. Rather than motivating people through fear of judgment, he calls believers to live with joyful anticipation of eternity. Heaven is presented not merely as an escape from hell but as the fulfillment of God's kingdom, where the fruit of faithful gospel living will be fully revealed. The sermon concludes with an invitation for believers to intentionally invest in what lasts forever by sharing the gospel, discipling others, and living lives that point people to Christ. While earthly inheritances eventually disappear, the inheritance of the gospel continues multiplying through generations and into eternity, bringing glory to God long after our earthly lives have ended.

The Aspects of a Godly Father - Pastor Johnny Marten

In this Father's Day message, Pastor Johnny Marten teaches that godly fatherhood is not about perfection but about faithfully passing on faith to the next generation. Using Psalm 78:5 as the foundation, he highlights God's command that fathers teach their children about His works and His ways. Pastor Johnny begins by examining the life of Jacob, a deeply flawed man who started life as a deceiver and manipulator but was transformed after an encounter with God. Jacob's story demonstrates that a person's past failures do not determine their future. Just as God changed Jacob into Israel, God can transform fathers and families today. The message acknowledges that many people have experienced different kinds of fathers—absent fathers, addicted fathers, selfish fathers, controlling fathers, permissive fathers, and good fathers. While no father is perfect, every father has tremendous influence on his children, who often grow up wanting to imitate their dad for better or worse. Pastor Johnny then outlines several key aspects of a godly father: A godly father has a relationship with God the Father. Fathers cannot effectively lead their children spiritually unless they themselves are walking with God. A godly father breaks unhealthy generational patterns. Through God's help, fathers can stop destructive habits, attitudes, and strongholds from being passed on to future generations. A godly father turns his heart toward his children. Like the father in the story of the Prodigal Son, he remains loving, available, and ready to welcome his children even when they make mistakes. A godly father does not provoke his children. Instead, he lovingly disciplines, instructs, and trains them according to God's Word. A godly father models his faith. Children are more likely to follow God when they see authentic faith lived out at home rather than merely hearing rules and commands. The sermon concludes with a challenge for fathers and all believers to reflect on God's faithfulness in their own lives and intentionally share those stories with the next generation. By teaching, modeling, and living out a genuine relationship with God, fathers can help their children place their hope in Him and continue the legacy of faith.
