Jason Verney's "F. L. I. C. K. S. (Film, Life, Interview, Camera, Korea & Sounds)" PODCAST

Jason Verney

"F. L. I. C. K. S." is a podcast by filmmaker and journalist Jason Verney, in collaboration with his production company, NativeNomadPictures.com (NNP) and his movies & music website, MiniMiniMovie.com (MMM), and stands for: Films Life Interviews Camera Korea Sounds 'FLICKS' SERIES DESCRIPTION: An Odd Plod, Nod & Pod to "NO-MADe-land"... This podcast can be seen as an apology perhaps, to those who may be awaiting the yet to be completed South Korean documentary by Mr Verney. Jason talks about various aspects of Korea, the Korean culture, movies (both Korean and international), music, life, travelling & more. Like the #KDOC14 documentary project itself, this too is a work in progress. Over time it will evolve... be this in format or from an audio to a visual podcast. Note: "F. L. I. C. K. S." is the new name for what was known as "Jason Verney's PLODCAST". Previous potential comic titles for this podcast were Prodcast*, Probcast** and Oddcast*** but the original name of "Plodcast" was used. * To represent 'still in Production' ** For either 'Problematic' or 'Probably' *** Simply because it's all kind of 'Odd' PLODCAST, although probably in existent by other broadcasters, was thought most apt... Not so much due to the fact that the podcast itself is slow, plodding or boring (well, you can be the judge of that!) but indicating that the Korean documentary, and other filmic projects are slowly, but surely on their way! "F. L. I. C. K. S." was more recently thought of a more memorable and relevant name & not only indicates that it's related to movies but also spells out what else it covers: Films; Life; Interviews; Camera; Korea; Sounds. Jason Verney is an independent filmmaker and journalist, whose websites (and company/ies) include Native Nomad Pictures Limited and MiniMiniMovie.com & is also proud co-founder of the London Asian Film Society. FLICKS Ep 103: Bristol Documentary Film Festival (1st Year of BDFF...!)

In this 'on the fly' episode, I speak about the brand new film festival which recently 'landed' in the city of Bristol, UK, and that is the BDFF... the Britsol Documentary Film Festival... which although my attendance was relatively brief, I really got a feel for its spirit, the hearts of those involved and the creative community & indeed venues it revolved around.   Sometimes in such episodes I move from topic to sucject and neglect to mention specifics... and on that subject, I want to personally give a huge shout out, thanks and a "well done" to a certain Nicholas Jones, whom is essentially behind this wonderful new film festival! Recorded on 9th September, 2026 (in Bristol, UK). More of what I do - be it relating to music, filmmaking, South Korea, Bristol or South East Asia related,  or other projects will come up - here at http://www.JasonVerney.com (& https://ko-fi.com/jasian / http://www.MiniMiniMovie.com) MORE J.V. EP 102: Glen Hansard... He Fell Fast, But His Gift Will Last

We recently lost a legend... Glen Hansard, a musician and all-round down-to-earth charitable human being... and although I never met Glen, I did see him play live in concert and whose music has been with me for a couple of decades in life, love, pain, my stories, my film creations, travels and more. I was going to record something immediately but perhaps really I needed to process or digest what had happened & how his relatively young life suddenly ended.  His music, and so many facets of his life will continue... as 'The Gift' to us all. If you've stumbled upon this episode or series due to my Korean connections or affinity, you'll notice that by the end of the episode I've mentioned 2 or 3 things which relate in some way to South Korea.  Sadness, sorrow or "한"...?  Some would say that Han is Hard... and thank you for everything, Mr Glen Hansard. In this particular episode [a 'special spontaneous' and simultaneous CROSSOVER & 'Bouncing Spring Bonus' episode between my "F.L.I.C.K.S." podcast series and our "Not So Korean Podcast"], I speak 'LIVE' from the grounds of the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) and from the Jeonju International Film Festival 2026 (JIFF 2026) in Jeonju, South Korea. The show is somewhat split into two parts and covers both the festival in general & my experiences with JIFF in the past, but also a large part is about the first 24 hours or so of this 2026 edition of the festival. I speak about arriving in Jeonju and JIFF itself, the film strand relating to the late Ahn Sung-ki, meeting LEE Myung-se again, Greta LEE, my recent Sewol Ferry feature documentary (S.E.W.O.L. - Sealed Eternally With Our Love), the city of Jeonju itself, my recent car/bus accident, Jeonju accomodation and more.   http://www.MiniMiniMovie.com  http://www.YouTube.com/JasonVerney https://miniminimovie.com/tag/jeonju/ MMM Jeonju articles  http://www.Linktree.com/NotSoKoreanPodcast https://filmfreeway.com/SEWOLSealedEternallyWithOurLove http://www.JasonVerney.com Episode recorded on 1st May, 2026 in Jeonju, South Korea. In episode 99 of Jason Verney’s “F.L.I.C.K.S.”, it's ANNOUNCED that there is a new podcast which Jason hosts, and this time it's one relating to Thailand or perhaps more specifically a certain well-known city in that country... but what is it?   Well, when we tell you the name of the series title, you'll know where this is.   Yes... It's called "Chiang-mai Chatter" and although it's not 'brand new' (as I / Jason Verney have been quietly hosting & producing the series without any announcement, and indeed has a dedicated YouTube channel already...!) it's one which will play a bigger part in my life AND my YouTube.com/JasonVerney channel. So, now, there are techincally 4 podcasts being hosted by Jason (ak me!;), and these are: 1. The Not So Korean Podcast 2. MBF: Micro-Budget Filmmakers  3. ChiangMai Chatter  4. F.L.I.C.K.S. [ this podcast you're listening to now ] We hope you enjoy what I - or perhaps "we" - have to say... "FLICKS" Ep 98: Why Do We See Films Multiple Times?

In episode 98 of Jason Verney’s “F.L.I.C.K.S.” we look at films, filmmaking and why people may see films multiple times... even in the cinema.  Jason Verney uses the latest movie by director Paul Thomas Anderson, "One Battle After Another" as an example but touches on other films and experiences too. We hope you enjoy what we have to say... The main part of the episode was recorded whilst in a recording space in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This episode, number 98 was recorded on 6th November 2025. "FLICKS" Ep 97: "Irish Film Festival 2025" (Thailand/Chiang Mai/Bangkok)

In episode 97 of Jason Verney’s “F.L.I.C.K.S.” we present a kind of 'overview' of the recent Irish Film Festival (2025) in Thailand, and again come to you from Chiang Mai. Although this review and little overview speaks about - and indeed praises - the Irish Fiklm Festival, which takes part in bioth Bangkok and Chiang Mai, podcast host Jason Verney also speaks about things in his life journey which have crossed paths with Irish culture and the country of Ireland itself. Subjects touched on in this episode include the area of Kilburn in London where our host once lived, Irish films admired, the great musicians and famous bands of Ireland & how perhaps Jason's first ever flight in his life took him to that Irish land and subsequently started a life of flights to countries further afield... including Korea, Thailand and other parts of Asia, which are now Jason Verney's areas of expertise, as a filmmaker, podcaster, activist and more. We hope you enjoy what we have to say... The main part of the episode was recorded whilst in a recording space in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This episode, number 97 was recorded on 10th November 2025, just hours after the 3-day Irish Film Festival ended. "FLICKS" Ep 96: "One to One: John & Yoko" - My Tears, His Years... I'm All Ears...

In episode 96 of Jason Verney’s “F.L.I.C.K.S.” we present a kind of 'on the go' episode, of which the bulk of it focuses on the recent documentary film by Kevin Macdonald, "One to One: John &; Yoko".   Although this rambling review (& more!) was recorded in Bristol (UK) in Spring 2025, it seemed apt to put it out now whilst I'm visiting Vietnam - not least because the John & Yoko documentary focuses on that time when the Vietnam war - or as some Vietnamese may have called it, "the American War or "the anti-American War OR the “War Against the Americans to Save the Nation” - was tragically happening.  In fact, they'll be one or two other "Verney's Vietnam" kind of videos appearing on my http://www.YouTube.com/JasonVe... channel. It's also recently been announced that a remastered version of the 90's docuseries, The Beatles Anthology will be coming to a certain platform soon... as well as music/reissues to accompany it. Subjects touched on in this episode all include how the documentary made me feel, how others expressed emotion, The Watershed venue in Bristol and comparisons to making my very own feature documentary [about the South Korea disaster of the Sewol Ferry) The main part of the episode was recorded whilst 'on the go', 'on the move' and therefore 'on the fly'. I hope you enjoy what I have to say... This episode, number 96 was recorded on 26th April 2025 in Bristol, England/UK. The accompanying article can be found on here, at myhttp://www.MiniMiniMovie.com.  Also found on that site of mine are two posts/reviews from years ago of other Kevin Macdonald films: https://miniminimovie.com/2011/05/15/life-in-a-day-or-from-my-workplace-to-wordpress-to-the-worldpeople/ https://miniminimovie.com/2011/04/22/the-eagle-or-the-last-bling-of-scotland/ Video Version:  https://youtu.be/LWpXisHEgWI Other podcasts by Jason Verney: (Note: In addition to any YouTube links, all these podcasts are available on your favourite music / audio / streaming platforms) The Not So Korean Podcast http://www.Linktree.com/NotSoKoreanPodcast The Micro-Budget Filmmakers (MBF) Podcast https://www.youtube.com/@micro-budgetfilmmakers This "F.
