    Dr. Olaf Kroneman & Detroit Heroic: Medicine, Murder & a City in Turmoil

    Dr. Olaf Kroneman is a Detroit-born physician and author who has practiced medicine for more than four decades. A graduate of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, he trained at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Virginia before completing a nephrology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital with a Harvard Medical School appointment. Alongside his medical career, Kroneman has written award-winning short fiction and essays inspired by medicine, patients, and the social issues he has witnessed throughout his career. His debut novel, Detroit Heroic, is set against the turmoil of Detroit in 1967–68. It follows young physician Dr. Matt Drummond, who encounters racism, police brutality, gun violence, illegal abortions, and inequality in the medical system. After being framed for a woman's death following an illegal abortion, Matt finds himself pursued by both Detroit homicide detectives and dangerous figures from the city's underworld. The novel blends medical drama, murder mystery, historical fiction, and social commentary, with the 1967 Detroit uprising and the Detroit Tigers providing part of its historical backdrop.
