    Local Selection 299: Ali PJ

The 299th edition of the Four Four Local Selection is coming in hot from Dublin-based multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer Ali PJ. This contribution is a fine showcase of the upcomers' refined taste, which incorporates bustling house-oriented basslines and uplifting, playful vocals throughout. With a relatively short period of time, Ali PJ has made a strong mark through her involvement in Dublin's electronic dance music scene. She first gained attention following a standout DJ set on RTÉ 2FM’s The Bunker Sessions late last year, and steadily built on that momentum with appearances at a range of venues including Tengu, Index, and The Workman's Club. In addition to her performances, she founded the BIMM DJ Society last year, which is an impressive accolade in itself. Further cementing her presence within Dublin’s club circuit. A personal highlight so far has been her debut at Block, where she supported IDEMI during their Irish debut. Ali's groove-driven sets blend classic house tracks with a contemporary edge, creating a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly current. Guided by instinctive, intuitive track selection and a seamless sense of flow, weaving together an array of vocal-driven EDM influences, punchy basslines, and carefully crafted melodic hooks. Not to mention, this mix features one of her own unreleased tracks towards the end of the recording - so do be sure to keep an ear out!  The result is a dynamic, immersive mix that reflects her evolving sound and acts as a strong signal for a big 2026. 2. Local Selection 298: Uncle Moe

    Local Selection 298: Uncle Moe

This week's Local Selection welcomes Belfast-based DJ, promoter and writer Uncle Moe to the series. The 298th edition provides an insight into Moe's three main sonic preferences: ambient, techno and percussive. This mix fuses these favourites in an eloquent, slick way. Uncle Moe operates at the intersection of Belfast’s grassroots scene towards a wider, global club continuum. As one half of the well-admired Plain Sailing—a DJ duo and club night that has become a fixture in the city’s underground—he’s built a reputation for thoughtful, forward-facing bookings, hosting artists across the spectrum of electronic dance music from DVS1 and D. Dan to LCY and Objekt. The project reflects a curatorial instinct grounded as much in community as it is in club functionality. This ethos extends into Uncle Moe Invites, a series of after-hours gatherings centred on intimacy and spontaneity. Hosted in low-lit, small-capacity spaces, the parties revolve around extended B2B sessions with local artists, prioritising trust, experimentation and shared energy over spectacle. Alongside DJing, Uncle Moe has emerged as a key voice documenting and amplifying Irish underground culture for some time now. Through writing for platforms including Clash Magazine, Resident Advisor and DJ Mag, they’ve contributed to a broader narrative around Ireland’s evolving electronic landscape, bridging the gap between local movements and international recognition. This recording unfolds with a gradual, immersive approach. The first half is rooted in dub techno territory, with lush, spatial textures shaped by an array of percussive elements that tie in nicely with the mixes overall progression. There is a meditative quality to this opening section, a slow-building atmosphere that draws the listener inward. As the mix delves further, it transitions into more rhythm-driven territory, reflecting a deep affinity for soundsystem culture. Steppy, syncopated drum patterns begin to take hold, weaving together elements of dub, percussive techno, and bass music. Both carry a considerable amount of weight and movement, while remaining enveloped in hazy, dreamlike ambient layers. The result is a carefully balanced journey between introspection and energy, and we are all for it! Local Selection 297: Nestor

For the next instalment of the Local Selection, we’re pleased to welcome Sligo-born, Manchester-based DJ, producer and promoter Nestor to the series. The 297th edition shows an insight into Jack’s taste that has formed over the years. Featuring a strong selection of electro, UK techno and acid house. This week’s Local Selection comes courtesy of Nestor. Initially rooted in Sligo before making the move to Manchester in 2022 to pursue music, he has had some glaring success in that time as an artist and promoter of Lace. From spinning in a wealth of Manchester’s venues such as The White Hotel, Hidden, Stage & Radio, DBA and The Progress Centre, as well as picking up gigs in Leeds and Liverpool. Nestor has also had the opportunity to throw parties in the city alongside his partner Adam Hunter, and in doing so has welcomed a wealth of formidable artists to their party. Some of which include Bas Mooy, Peder Mannerfelt, Anabel Arroyo, Kerrie, Sunil Sharpe and many more artists over the last number of years. In doing so, they have acted as a beacon to platform Irish talent. Showcasing genuine effort to platform talented Irish artists and fostering collaboration among two of Ireland’s most reputable parties, Encrypted and Hidden Love, further strengthening the links between Irish and UK-based parties. As a DJ and producer, Nestor demonstrates his versatility often, playing a broad spectrum of genres across his sets, ranging from high-energy, gritty techno to feel-good house, alongside some of the biggest names in the underground scene. In 2024, Nestor released his debut EP titled ‘Movement’, which featured on RTE Pulse, SWU.FM and Crop Radio. In addition, Nestor also performs under his Paragon alias alongside long-time collaborator Louie. More recently, Nestor progressed significantly with the release of his debut album ‘The Ramblings of a Sligo Man which explores field recordings, electro-acoustic composition and experimental sound design, followed by his second album Digital Methods’, as well as multiple releases on various labels and an appearance on the iconic Rinse FM. This recording is a fine display of the range in taste that Nestor possesses. The mix allows the listener to experience Nestor’s progression over the course of the hour. Building the energy and intensity as he slides through a variety of genres and moods that touch on the journey-like aspect of mixes that many DJs try to execute, but so few do – a real reward for your ears.
