I strongly feel like all of you are overlooking how dramatic of a turnaround Bob Chesney can achieve at UCLA in year 1. Haven’t mentioned the hottest name in the coaching carousel in any of your episodes last month. There’s legit talent on that roster, its been the coaching that’s held the program back the last 3-4 years. Matthew Sluka was a dominant FCS qb in this offense at Holy Cross a few years ago…I don’t think it’s crazy to say that Nico Iamaleava can have a much better season this year. And Sahir West/Sammy Omosigho/bringing back most of a decent secondary with upgrades at safety…really not crazy at all to see UCLA going back to a bowl game and making some noise in the Big 10 this year. Not saying its a Cignetti type turn around, but I think Chesney can be like Mora and have a 8 win season in year 1.

Do you think we are on a clear path to a Big Ten team being punished for playing only 9 P4 games this season? With every other conference requiring it + it being good for TV networks like ESPN to schedule in the non con, it seems bound to bite a B1G in the butt in 2026. Looking at IU, PSU, Washington or USC.

Would you rather make the playoffs for the next 20 years or win one hiesmen and one national championship and the other years are losing seasons for 20 years

Hey guys, Long time listener, first time mail bagger here. In light of the US Men’s Hockey team winning gold, I gave Miracle yet another rewatch and it got me thinking: Given the current climate of the NIL/Transfer portal era that panders to keeping players comfortable and happy is it (actually) no surprise that Cig got a group of “lower tier” players to be coached hard, and thus play harder, than their more talented but better compensated opponents? In other words, do you think that the proverbial pendulum will swing back towards coaches “Not looking for the best players, we’re looking for the right ones.” If so, then do you all also think that in the same way Herb Brooks revolutionized play but also player evaluation to create a better TEAM than super NHL or Soviet teams, will we see other coaches (and of course Cig) shift their emphasis towards higher character traits rather than just the physical traits that will allow them to coach their players hard enough to overcome more talented opponents? Bud, I know how much you love market inefficiencies, so could this be the one that recalibrates your thoughts on the Blue Chip Ratio?
