For many years, I have not been much of a screen watcher. More of a music listener and a book reader. Then came audiobooks and I was in thrilled. After that came podcasts and I was in heaven!
Although times have changed a lot since I was a kid and screens, large and small, dominate our lives, I have encouraged my kids to have as much screen-free time as possible. At age 8 and 10, my wife or I still read to them almost every night. I have shared podcasts with them: Bits of NightVale. Some episodes of Surprisingly Awesome. They love the Infinite Now.
I am hear to tell you that On Patrol is an EXCELLENT audio drama for family listening. Whether you are driving to school, playing with Legos, or cuddling on the couch - the whole family can listen and enjoy. It is a story about AM radio in the City of Antaean, a mostly typical city, with mostly typical issues like politics, public health, social justice, and postal service. The main distinction of Antaean is that it is populated by super-heros and super-villains. This set up works well because the characters are super-silly while doing normal city things, with super jokes spanning multiple episodes.
The humor is dry. The production quality is excellent. The puns are top notch. There could me more music, but, really, that applies to almost every podcast in my opinion.
