    X-Men '97 Is STILL Great... So Why Does Season 2 Feel Off?

    X-Men '97 Season 2 has officially come to an end! After an incredible first season, did Marvel Animation manage to recapture the magic, or did Season 2 bite off more than it could chew? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled review of X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9, including the season finale, Apocalypse, Nightcrawler, the incredible action and animation, our biggest criticisms, and what we want from X-Men '97 Season 3. But first, we've got a hefty 40-minute cold open! COLD OPEN: FIRST 40 MINUTES DRAGON CON 2026 We're heading to Dragon Con starting September 3rd, and we'll be there all weekend! We're excited to experience the convention and hopefully meet some fellow SuperHero Homies along the way. If you see us wandering around Dragon Con, come say hello! SODA CITY COMIC CON We also recap our trip to Soda City Comic Con, where we had the opportunity to meet Wilson Bethel, better known as Bullseye from Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again, and the legendary Peter Weller, star of RoboCop. We share stories from both encounters and our overall experience at the convention. ARE THE FOX X-MEN MOVIES UNDERRATED? With X-Men hotter than ever, we revisit the Fox X-Men movie franchise and ask whether these films deserve more credit. The franchise definitely had some lows, but movies like Logan and X-Men: Days of Future Past remain among the greatest comic book movies ever made. So... have we been too hard on the Fox X-Men? THE BATMAN JOINS THE DCU?! Could Matt Reeves' Batman eventually be folded into James Gunn's larger DC Universe? We discuss the possibility of Robert Pattinson's Batman sharing the screen with David Corenswet's Superman, whether that combination could actually work, and what it would mean for the future of the DCU. We also discuss our excitement for Batman: Knightfall Part 1 and the chilling new Absolute Batman Mr. Freeze origin story. LANTERNS We're loving Lanterns! Unfortunately, we haven't had enough time to review the series weekly, but we give our thoughts on what we've seen so far and why we can't wait to give the show a proper review. X-MEN '97 SEASON 2 FULL SPOILERS After the cold open, we dive into X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9 and the finale. There's still a LOT to love about this series. The animation, voice acting, superhero action, fight scenes, comic book references, and character work remain top-notch. Certain characters and storylines are handled exceptionally well, particularly Nightcrawler, who continues to be one of our favorite characters. But Season 2 also left us frustrated. We discuss: • Apocalypse and his Season 2 storyline • The disappointing conclusion to the overarching conflict • Why certain Apocalypse storylines feel half-baked • Nightcrawler's fantastic character development • The incredible animation and voice acting • Some of the season's best fight scenes • Our favorite and least favorite moments • The disjointed storytelling • Season 2's pacing problems • How Season 2 compares to Season 1 • The X-Men '97 Season 2 ending • Our theories and predictions for Season 3 Our biggest issue is that Season 2 simply needed more room to breathe. There are great ideas throughout these episodes, but important story beats sometimes move so quickly that they don't receive the emotional weight or development they deserve. The overarching Apocalypse storyline is especially frustrating because such an iconic X-Men villain deserved a more fulfilling conclusion. That doesn't mean we've suddenly stopped loving X-Men '97. Far from it. We still think this is an excellent superhero animated series with fantastic characters, gorgeous animation, phenomenal action, and a clear love for Marvel Comics and X-Men history. Season 1 simply set an incredibly high bar, and Season 2 doesn't quite reach it. We're still VERY excited for X-Men '97 Season 3, and we're hoping Marvel Animation slows things down just enough to let its biggest moments breathe.     House of the Dragon Season 3 Review | An EPIC But Flawed Season

    House of the Dragon Season 3 has come to an end! After an uneven second season, did Season 3 bring the Dance of the Dragons back to its former glory? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled House of the Dragon Season 3 review, breaking down the second half of the season, the epic finale, Battle of Tumbleton, Rhaenyra's transformation, Sheepstealer, Rhaena, Ormund Hightower, and our biggest theories for House of the Dragon Season 4. But first, we've got a 20-minute cold open! COLD OPEN: FIRST 20 MINUTES We begin with a debate about comic book movie adaptations and how closely movies should follow their source material. Why can Spider-Man: Brand New Day drastically differ from its comic book namesake without receiving much criticism, while Supergirl was heavily criticized for changing elements of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? Is faithfulness to the source material actually important, or does it depend on expectations? Nobody necessarily expected Spider-Man: Brand New Day to directly adapt the comics, while Supergirl was marketed as an adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow. We discuss whether expectations, rather than comic book accuracy itself, are what ultimately shape fan reactions. ICE CREAM MAN MOVIE We then discuss Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man horror movie... and we're already worried without even seeing it. We're big fans of the Ice Cream Man comics and praise their creativity, disturbing horror, mystery, thought-provoking storytelling, and incredibly unique premise. Unfortunately, we think the movie appears to be stripping away much of what makes the comic special in favor of something far more generic. We discuss why the adaptation feels disconnected from its source material and why we're skeptical of Eli Roth's approach. HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SEASON 3 After the cold open, we return to Westeros for our full discussion of House of the Dragon Season 3 Episodes 5-8. We previously reviewed Episodes 1-4, and now it's time to determine whether Season 3 stuck the landing. FULL HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SPOILERS! We discuss: • The Battle of Tumbleton and the finale's incredible action • Rhaenyra's increasingly dark transformation • Rhaena and Sheepstealer • Ormund Hightower emerging as a wonderfully conniving villain • The Dance of the Dragons • The season's biggest twists and surprises • Character motivations and development • The uneven pacing • Underdeveloped supporting characters • Our favorite and least favorite moments • Where the story goes in Season 4 • Who survives the coming war The action throughout Season 3 is spectacular, and the Battle of Tumbleton gives us some of the epic dragon warfare we've been waiting to see. We also loved watching Rhaenyra's heel turn continue as the war changes her, while characters such as Ormund Hightower brought some much-needed personality and scheming to the conflict. But we have one MAJOR problem with the series: Who are we supposed to root for? We love morally complex characters. Game of Thrones built its reputation on complicated, flawed people. But morally gray doesn't have to mean emotionally distant. At this point, we're struggling to find a main character we genuinely want to rally behind. The spectacle is incredible, but without characters we're emotionally invested in, some of the biggest moments don't hit as hard as they should. Despite those criticisms, we still enjoyed House of the Dragon Season 3 and believe it's an improvement over Season 2. The action deserves special recognition. We believe this movie features arguably the greatest fight scenes ever put on screen in a Spider-Man film, blending incredible choreography, creative web-slinging, emotional storytelling, and spectacular visual effects into unforgettable set pieces.     House of the Dragon Season 3 Review | FINALLY Back on Track? (Episodes 1-4)

    House of the Dragon is back... and after a divisive second season, Season 3 is finally bringing the fire! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down the first four episodes of House of the Dragon Season 3, discussing the biggest battles, character arcs, political intrigue, dragon action, pacing, theories, and everything that has us excited for the rest of the season. While we had plenty of criticisms of Season 2, these opening episodes feel like a major step in the right direction. The story is moving, the battles are spectacular, and the Dance of the Dragons finally feels like it's building toward the epic conclusion we've been waiting for. FULL SPOILER DISCUSSION This episode contains full spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 3 Episodes 1-4. In This Episode We Discuss: Our full House of the Dragon Season 3 review Why Season 3 feels much stronger than Season 2 The incredible pacing of the opening episodes Massive battle sequences and dragon action The political maneuvering between rival factions Character motivations and shifting alliances Which characters impressed us the most Why some of the cast feels less complex than previous seasons Our favorite scenes and biggest surprises The strongest action set pieces so far What still isn't working Predictions and theories for the rest of Season 3 Who we think survives... and who probably won't One of our biggest takeaways is that House of the Dragon has recaptured much of the excitement that made us fall in love with this world. The first two episodes feature phenomenal pacing, outstanding action, and some of the biggest moments we've seen since the series began. That said, we don't think everything is perfect. While the spectacle has reached new heights, some of the characters don't feel quite as layered or emotionally compelling as they did in previous seasons. They're far from one-dimensional, but many of the personal conflicts and relationships haven't resonated with us as strongly as they once did. Even with those criticisms, we're having a fantastic time watching this season unfold. These first four episodes have us genuinely excited to see how the Dance of the Dragons reaches its conclusion, and we can't wait to see where the remaining episodes take Rhaenyra, Alicent, Daemon, Aegon, Aemond, Corlys, and the rest of Westeros. The Odyssey transforms Homer's timeless epic into a breathtaking cinematic experience, blending spectacular action, practical filmmaking, emotional storytelling, and thought-provoking themes into what we believe is one of the year's very best movies. While we do have a few minor criticisms, including a handful of performances that don't quite reach the same level as the rest of the cast and action scenes that are excellent without quite becoming all-time classics, those nitpicks hardly diminish what is otherwise a phenomenal cinematic experience.
