Talks about our Gig Economy adventures and breaking down the Gig Economy News
-
Ep. #164 Do Uber drivers get gas cards, and tesla drivers are earning 5.76 per hour!
Ever had a workweek so thrilling you just couldn't wait to tell everyone about it? Or perhaps you've been misunderstood, criticized, and you're just dying to set the record straight? Well, we've had quite a weekend ourselves, and boy, have we got stories to share! From sharing laughs at a gay bar to picnicking with ourGig Economy pals, we've seen it all. But we've also had some tough feedback about not providing enough gig economy tips. Well, let's clear the air: we're here to give you light-hearted, amusing water cooler talk about the gig economy world.
Now, imagine yourself driving through the chaotic streets of Pakistan, where street crime is as common as the buzzing of motorbikes. As a gig worker, your safety is a constant concern - from having to carry a fake wallet to speeding past suspicious corners. It's a wild, dangerous world out there, and all you've got is your wits, your vehicle, and possibly a location-sharing app to keep you safe. As we discuss these worrisome realities, we also ponder over the idea of an app that could help drivers steer clear of high-risk areas.
As we shift gears, we delve into the economics of being an Uber driver in a rented Tesla. Can you really make $5.76 an hour after all is said and done? What about the zero-emissions incentive and Uber comfort trips? We're also excited to talk about a unique income opportunity that's gaining traction in the UK - the Soho app, a platform for earning money by repairing clothes. If you're in the neighborhood, do join us on the show, and let's share our stories and experiences - no BS, all transparency. So, gear up for an exciting drive through the fascinating world of gig work. Let's hit the road!

Ep. #162 Dissecting Driver Earnings, Diving into 'Utilized Hours', and Lyft's Women Plus Connect: The Deep Drive of the Driving Gig Economy
Ever wondered how different driving options impact your bottom line? In our recent chit-chat, we dissected our driving experiences over the last week. We almost had an identical number of rides, yet there was a small difference in pay that got us thinking. We even tackled a tricky one-star rating and the implications of XL rides on our earnings. Plus, a shout-out to John for shedding a whopping 60 pounds!
Navigating through the world of driving can be a labyrinth. Enter Nathan, Jeff, and Gabe, three seasoned drivers who joined us to share their first-hand experiences and earnings with both gas and electric cars. We also took a deep dive into the idea of 'utilized hours' and the recent earnings call of the company. Our conversation veered towards Lyft's new initiative, Woman Plus Connect. How does it fare for women and non-binary drivers? Rachel, a member of our group, shared an inspiring tale of generosity that made us appreciate the power of kindness.
The gas vs. electric car debate was back in the spotlight, and we also reflected on the indelible impact of acts of kindness. We wrapped up our talk with a message of love and gratitude. Come, be a part of our community, share our triumphs, and learn from our experiences.

Imagine using this data to inform city planners, or even for selling as data sets in a data-driven gig economy. We also dissect the emerging market disruptor, Empower, and its potential threat to Uber and Lyft's business model.

Customer Reviews
The average Rideshare trip.
Hi driver, what’s my name? Ok can you take me and my 8 friends in your Honda Fit? Thanks, we just came from the Soup and Coffee convention with a bunch of tasty souvenirs. All windows down, we’re all chain-smokers. We’ll be having 3 different conversations and we’ll all shriek when we pass a Taco Bell, demanding that you go through the drive thru because we paid for the trip so we basically own you. Ooh just a quick stop at the liquor store cuz it’s only like a mile out of the way from my house, come on. And can you drop some of us off 10 minutes down the road? Thanks for the trip, 5 stars for sure. I’ll tip you in the app!
Info-tainment. Heavy on the “taint”.
It seems like the hosts of the show have enough gig work experience that they could share information or tips that would help new to moderately experienced gig workers. But it feels as though they consciously choose not to. Instead, you just get a bunch of surface layer, warehouse style water cooler talk. Nothing really funny or entertaining. It sounds like the hosts don’t enjoy doing the podcast or that it’s a chore. Also, the majority of the stories or information has been in circulation for several days before the episodes drop. Lastly, they operate in the same circles as many of the Youtubers in this genre. As a result, you get a lot of the same boring guests.
Duuuval Uber Driver
I learn to you guys all the time. I’m a driver from the Jacksonville Florida market. I’m also a merchant seaman.
