Where Is The Love? I strongly believe that religion is about control, not spirituality. For me, true spirituality is about growth, accepting who you truly are, and finding purpose in that truth. I do not believe it is possible to build genuine spirituality on a foundation of dogma that threatens penalties for sin. Furthermore, a deep dive into the Christian Bible reveals that what is labeled as "sin" is extremely flexible. For instance, "Thou shalt not kill" is one of the Ten Commandments, yet there is so much killing justified in the name of God that the rule loses its meaning. Consequently, the current drive to put the Ten Commandments back into public schools does not stem from a desire to cultivate thoughtful, well-rounded children who are deep spiritual thinkers. Instead, it is about grooming adults who will blindly accept religious dogma as fact, rendering them easily controlled. If one were looking for a mechanism to control a society that might otherwise tear itself apart, religion perfectly meets that need. Ultimately, my experiences with religion have always been rooted in hierarchy and alignment, rather than genuine spiritual connection. Consider this definition of spirituality from Psychology Today: “Spirituality means different things to different people. For some, it's a belief in one God or multiple gods, and active participation in organized religion. For others, it's about non-religious experiences that help them connect with their spiritual selves through quiet reflection, time in nature, private prayer, yoga, or meditation.” Naturally, I identify with the latter. We cannot assume that we have been given all the answers in an ancient collection of writings deemed the word of a god. By outsourcing our moral compass to rigid, ancient dogma, we surrender the critical thinking and empathy required to navigate a modern world. This reliance limits our human possibilities and has brought us to a precarious point in history where we face the very real threat of destroying ourselves. The major world religions are ostensibly meant to teach us how to live together in love. Yet, is love what we actually see? Absolutely not. Love is often absent because many adherents believe so fervently that their path is the "only way" that hatred and division are preached to their congregations. Organized religion rarely asks you to look inward and truly get to know yourself. Instead, as practiced today, it demands conformity and thrives on judging those who refuse to align with its teachings. Rather than engaging in self-reflection, people are busy policing others to see who is out of step. This outward surveillance does not lead to peace or love; it merely keeps people distracted from discovering what they truly want out of life. Personally, I want to live a life filled with mystery and compassion. Love will always be my religion, a truth I only discovered about myself by rejecting organized dogma and opening my heart to true spirituality. ### **Category 1: Christian Nationalism & Democracy** * **Link:** https://www.instagram.com/p/DNWZw63M-WI/ * **Handle:** *Not provided in link text* * **Description:** A breakdown of how Christian nationalism seeks to dismantle the separation of church and state to codify religious privilege into law.
