I’ve really enjoyed this podcast over time. Matt and Rob have a lot of good advice and are smart enough to go outside of DnD lore to look for inspiration in their games. They explore genre and different game systems in depth and insightfully. They definitely seem to have a style and yours might not always agree with theirs, mine doesn’t frequently, but it’s still beneficial to hear the conversation, imho. I particularly have enjoyed their explorations of the origins/inspiration of different classes, and the problematic nature of some of those origins.
Two bits of things I’ve disliked over time:
1. The review episodes have devolved towards “10 ways WOTC could have formatted the book differently.” Instead of talking in depth about the content, I found the last few to spend a lot of time on small nitpicks about the book they disliked, like a particular piece of lore or some writing choice they made like notes from a fictional author. Personally, I want to hear about the DM content and if the subclasses/monsters/spells are interesting or ideas with them, and less about the layout of the book.
2. They very well may know this already and account for it, but - Matt interrupts Rob a lot. Noticeably so. Not on purpose I believe, he just has a thought he wants to share and starts talking over Rob. It’s been disappointing a few times when Rob was on a roll with something I found interesting only for Matt to cut him off and go in a different direction. This is a habit many people have and it can be tough to break, but for the sake of the show and good discussion I think Matt needs to work on it a bit.
Overall still a very fun show that I think you should definitely check out!!
