What internal dispositions and expectations do we come with? We watch and listen as Israel walk with God and Jesus walks with his disciples. Andrew Strutzenberg - A Christlike Word – How to fix a flat (Bible) (11th Oct)

The weekly message from Community Church Edinburgh. This talk is from Sunday, 11th Oct 2026. Christian faith rightly revolves around a collection of literature known as the Old and New Testaments, these writings have come to shape our lives, communities and even societies.  For all the good these scriptures have brought into the world, they have also been used to justify slavery, genocide, the subjugation of women, and other forms of oppression.  Indeed unscrupulous or uncritical approach to the scriptures can lead to a “flat” reading of the Bible where everything written in it has the same value and the same authority.  Jesus himself was accused regularly of not being appropriately biblical and even had the audacity to correct, amend and even claiming to fulfil the scriptures in himself (Mt. 5:17).  As we encounter the person and teachings of Jesus, we are drawn deeper into a biblical story that is not flat, dull or oppressive, but rather dynamic, rich and defined by radical love.
