I appreciate what this podcast is: an effort to contextualize the present through revisitation of and connection to the past.
However, I was listening to ep. 43 about the Uranium Spill @ Church Rock and couldn’t help but notice the irreverence and flippancy with which the suffering and exploitation of the Navajo people was treated by the hosts.
I imagined how a relative of someone who worked in the mines, who had cancer or other diseases from the spill, would react to the constant cackling & sarcasm when talking about how they were exploited and ignored.
Of course, sarcasm and cynicism can help us through difficult experiences or hard times. Indigenous scholars constantly cite “rez humor” as emerging from sometimes hopeless situations. I love cracking jokes when life seems too grim to cope.
But please, in future, be more gentle when discussing the pain and suffering of others.
In any case, thank you for taking the time to put the information together; just the delivery irked me in a few places. I hope you understand.
