    Pulse of the City: The Trap of Loneliness

    In a city surrounded by people, it is still possible to feel alone. Full schedules, fleeting conversations, changing seasons, and personal burdens can leave us feeling unseen or disconnected. This Sunday, we continue the Pulse of the City series with “The Trap of Loneliness.” Drawing on Proverbs 27:17—“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”—we consider God’s design for meaningful Christian community. Jesus meets us in the places where we feel isolated, and invites us into a church family where we can be known, encouraged, challenged, and supported as we grow in faith together. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”— Isaiah 40:31.     Pulse of the City: Feeling the Heartbeat

    Hong Kong is full of movement: busy streets, competing demands, powerful messages, and rhythms that can shape us before we notice. In this first message of our new series, Pulse of the City, we explore “Feeling the Heartbeat.” Drawing from Ephesians 5:6–7, we consider Jesus’ invitation to discernment and faithful living amid the pressures and possibilities of life in Hong Kong. What voices form our desires and choices? How can we recognise what is true, resist what draws us away from God, and learn to live with wisdom, courage, and hope?     Persevering in the Fire

    Some of the most defining moments in God’s story unfold in the background: in disrupted plans, hard decisions, and the quiet resolve to trust God’s word. Today’s message, “Your Finest Hour,” looks at one such moment—when a faithful man chose obedience and courage in the face of confusion and social risk, and God used that decision to bring His saving purposes into the world. Grounded in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens,” we’ll explore how God’s timing intersects with our lives when things don’t go according to our expectations, and how He can turn seasons of uncertainty into moments of deep significance and grace. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[c] from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace. Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.” He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
