Episode 383: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: Puppet Master (1989)

Spooktoberfest 2026 continues with a direct-to-video vacation to sunny California. 1989’s Puppet Master is a story about love, loss, betrayal, a small number of puppets, and lots and lots of leeches. A group of psychics are lured to the Bodega Bay Inn to attend the funeral of shady telepath Neil Gallagher. Neil had abandoned his friends years earlier while trying to uncover the secrets of reanimation. Left holding the bag after Neil’s disappearance, the other psychics decide to search the abandoned hotel for whatever treasure he found. (If you’re wondering how puppets are involved, we’re getting to that.) The psychics, alongside Neil’s widow Megan, find themselves plagued by terrifying visions, bizarre nightmares, and a troupe of (you guessed it) murderous living puppets. As it turns out, the Bodega Bay Inn was formerly home to an old puppeteer-turned-alchemist named André Toulon. His puppets have been reawakened and are now taking orders from a mysterious new master. Can our heroes solve the very obvious mystery that Neil Gallagher left behind? Or will they fall victim to the tiny blades, drills, fists, and leeches of Toulon’s puppets? Get ready for some handcrafted horror with no strings attached on today’s badly furnished episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake! Episode 382: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: The Devils (1971)

There's something in the air, once again, on Anime Was (Not) A Mistake. Could it be? It has to be ... Catholic Guilt! That's right Jonathan and Dan welcome you in novitiates to the convant of Spooktoberfest 2026! They always spoke of your beauty, and now I see it with my own eyes and it is true. First on this year's bill is the topical, controversial, and utter "nunsense" that is Ken Russel's The Devils  (1971). Our humble little podcast is always just ahead of trend with this special, viewing of the director's cut, topless nuns, and defiled crucifixes abound. Urbain Grandier is a womanizer of a priest, and the last bastion of defense for Loudun. When the explicitly devoted/horny mother abbess, Sister Jean des Anes is whipped up into a sexual fervor, chaos abounds and no one will be left standing when the city walls crumble. Warning: This is not an episode to listen to with the children, grandparents, or innocent raccoons around, so be warned. However, within the revelry and horror, a true religious discussion is had among friends and listeners alike. Get ready to get spiritual and perhaps shoot a Protestant or two...in jest! Lastly,  hold on to your rosaries and keep your hands where we can see them...please? Episode 381: Godzilla vs Mothra (1992)

The Summer of Dan Savings Event comes to an end with 1992’s Godzilla vs. Mothra. A stray meteoroid reawakens the King of the Monsters and sets off a series of natural disasters across the Pacific Ocean. The Japanese government forces ex-archeologist Takuya Fujito to investigate one such disaster: a landslide in Indonesia that unearthed something strange. On the remote Infant Island, Takuya’s expedition discovers a gigantic egg and tiny twin fairies called the Cosmos. Mothra, the Guardian of Earth we all know and love, is set to hatch from the egg in order to save humanity from their own hubris. However, the Cosmos warn that Mothra has a dark twin named Battra, whose patience for mankind has long since run out. The two Divine Moths are drawn to Japan by Godzilla’s latest rampage, igniting a three-way battle to restore the balance of nature. The real estate market trembles, egg prices skyrocket, and a familiar duet starts playing on today’s long-prophesied episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!. Episode 380: Dragon Ball GT - Shadow Dragon Saga (Part 3)

And so concludes a journey that brought us to the stars and back, from the deepest depths of H.F.I.L. to the shores of Anime Ireland—we’ve reached the end of Dragon Ball GT. Things are not looking great for Goku and his friends. Having attained ultimate power once again, Omega Shenron is determined to make humanity pay for their misuse of the Dragon Balls. Goku has run out of steam, making it impossible for him and Vegeta to fuse into Gogeta again. The Z Fighters have no intention of backing down as the final battle begins, but it just might take a miracle to win this one. Not wanting to leave any Dragon Ball unturned, we’ll jump one hundred years into the future to finish the series with A Hero’s Legacy. This television special, which originally aired right after the Baby Saga, focuses on the timid Goku Jr. attempting to live up to his ancestor’s name. Will he succeed? Not if it involves heights. You’d better get in touch with King Kai and contact your allies across the universe (or even just New Jersey) for today’s climactic episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake! Episode 379: Dragon Ball GT - Shadow Dragon Saga (Part 2)

Previously on Dragon Ball GT, SS4 Goku and Nuova Shenron turned up the heat on their battle and decided to fight at full strength. This week, we’ll be checking in on Vegeta as the Saiyan Prince reflects on his life using a partial clip show. While Vegeta laments Goku leaving him in the dust, Bulma finds a way to help her husband achieve a similar power boost. Goku and Nuova’s battle is soon interrupted by an icy new villain who has no intention of fighting fair. Though Goku emerges victorious, he is left blinded and exhausted as the final Shadow Dragon emerges. His name is Syn Shenron, the One-Star Dragon, and his ability to absorb the power and abilities of the other Shadow Dragons is nothing to sneeze at. Even the arrival of SS4 Vegeta does not improve the Z-Fighter’s odds, as Syn Shenron transforms into the even stronger Omega Shenron. The Fusion Technique is the only option that remains, but let’s hope that Gogeta can take the fight seriously enough to win. Episode 378: Dragon Ball GT - Shadow Dragon Saga (Part 1)

An ominous black smoke is issuing from Drawing Board-kun on this episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake. Though King Ghidorah has been defeated, we’re not done with evil dragons just yet. Last time on Dragon Ball GT, Goku and his friends, they had just finished gathering the Dragon Balls in order to undo the damage from Super 17’s attack. Instead of Shenron, however, a sinister-looking, chain-smoking dragon emerged: a byproduct of the negative energy that had been building within the Dragon Balls since Goku’s adventures first began. Black Smoke Shenron split himself into seven Shadow Dragons, each one embodying a different element and poised to destroy the world. Reassembling for another adventure, Goku, Trunks, Pan, and Giru first encountered Haze Shenron, the two-star dragon of pollution, terrorizing a small village. Though this Wario-esque dragon may not look like much, our heroes should know by now that appearances can be deceiving.
