An Empty House Is a Worthless House

Men say family comes first. Then I ask to see their week, and it's all work. The Gap Session is free and live on Tuesday, October 27 at 5:00 PM Pacific. Save your spot: https://mogbrotherhood.com/gap What This Episode Covers Recorded live in front of a room of men at the Men of Greatness Ohio retreat. Ryan used to pull 14 and 16 hour days and tell himself it was for his family. If he had asked his wife whether she wanted another promotion or half the hours and a pay cut, he knows her answer. As men we distort provision. We think it's money. Provision is primarily presence. An empty house is a worthless house. Ryan walks through three questions to find your core values: What are the top three to five things you value most?Which of those values actually drives your decisions? How do those values show up in your daily life? Key Takeaways Pull up last week's calendar. Which of your top values got the fewest hours? Most of us don't have the wrong values. We have them in the wrong order, and order can change.Values grow. Retaking StrengthsFinder years later showed Ryan he had grown, not gamed the test.A small-group check-in: how did one of your values show up last week, and where didn't it? If you're ready to stop doing this alone, the Men of Greatness brotherhood is where faith-driven men sharpen each other. I Had A Phone Full Of People And Nobody I Could Tell The Truth To

My wife rated me a nine out of ten as a husband, and I couldn't take it. That night there wasn't one man on earth I would have told. Find out where your widest gap is in under 10 minutes with the free Gap Check: https://mogbrotherhood.com/the-gap-check What This Episode Covers Everybody likes you. Nobody knows you. You've got the golf buddies, the guys from church, the clients who'd take your call any day of the week. You might be the guy everybody else leans on. And there isn't one man you'd call at eleven at night and tell the truth to. Here's the hard part. You built it that way, one reasonable decision at a time. Being liked means people see the highlight reel. Being known means they see the rest. Ryan walks through three things: Why you built it. Two questions that show where your worth actually lives: where do you go the night after you lose, and how do you finish the sentence "I'm okay as long as..."What it's costing you. March 2006, five grand lost gambling in a week, and the thousand-dollar number he told his wife. The money wasn't the damage. The hiding was.How it comes down. A men's retreat at Lake Arrowhead in 2008, one word yelled in a room full of men, and the vow renewal sentence in 2011 that did more than every promise before it. Key Takeaways The approval comes before the performance, not because of it. Most men have that order reversed.Being honest in your head doesn't count. Your wife can't respond to a conversation she's never heard. Some things only come out when brothers are close enough to hear them. This week: one man, one true sentence you've never said out loud. Then stop talking and let him respond. Scripture in this episode (ESV): Matthew 3:17, Romans 5:8, Proverbs 18:1, Proverbs 27:17. The Aligned Man: twelve men, twelve weeks, starting Thursday, November 5. Nobody performs in there, because nobody can. Stop Wasting Time in Men's Groups That Don't Work

You have more friends than most men will ever have, and not one of them is the call you would make at two in the morning. Take the free GAP Check before you do anything else. It will give you a straight answer on which area of your life is most out of alignment and exactly what has been driving it: https://mogbrotherhood.com/the-gap-check April 2019. Ryan is on the floor of his office in a full anxiety attack, in the middle of serving the biggest client he had ever landed. Thirteen years a Christian. Helped plant a church. Served as a pastor. In a men's group, a mastermind, and surrounded by good men. Not one of them was the call he made. That is the episode. Not isolation. Exposure. Most men do not have a friend problem. They have a rooms problem. The rooms are good, the men in them love Jesus, and every one of those rooms was built for you to report rather than to be seen. A report is a summary of something you already edited. Being seen is a man watching you long enough to notice what you left out. Ryan walks through the three reasons the room you are already in cannot do this job. You control the agenda. You decide what walks in before you walk in, so the room only ever meets the version of you that has finished processing. They hear your conclusions. They never hear your middle, and the middle is where the drift lives. They see a snapshot, not a slope. Nobody can call a slope from a single dot. You did not get here in one decision, you got here one distraction and one compromise at a time, and every individual Wednesday morning you looked fine. There is no cost to you staying quiet. Nobody follows up. Nobody is there next month to notice you used the exact same words. Until silence costs you something, you will stay silent. Then the assignment. Pick one man and say one true sentence, something you have never said out loud to another man. Not a testimony. Not the cleaned up version with the lesson already attached. The middle. Key Takeaways The armor was not always armor. It started as discipline and wisdom about what a leader can say. Then it hardened. You cannot be known and be armored up at the same time. Two rooms did the work in Ryan's life. One up on the mountain in 2008, where he stood up in front of 150 men and yelled out unforgiveness. One down in the day to day, where a few older men refused to let him stop at a feeling and kept pressing until he wrote his father a letter. That letter turned his dad into one of his closest friends. Most men have neither room.If you scroll your contacts and reach the end without finding one man you would say it to, that is not a failure. That is a diagnosis. The Truth About Being a Man of Greatness in Business

The man everyone looks up to can be the emptiest man in the room, and the reason almost always started years before the success did. If you are ready to stop doing this alone, the Men of Greatness brotherhood is where faith-driven men sharpen each other and close the gap together. Come join us: https://mogbrotherhood.com/ In this conversation with Seth Schmidt on the FORTIV: Alive with Courage podcast, Ryan tells the story of a business trip to Chicago in 2006, a question at a hotel bar, and the choice that sent him to church that Sunday. He also shares what surviving the Route 91 shooting taught him about why the work has to reach the heart. Ryan breaks down what a wound really is and why every struggle you cannot break traces backwards. His parents' divorce at six became the belief that he was not good enough for anybody, and he spent years trying to prove otherwise through women, gambling, partying and success. You will also hear the story of a franchise owner stuck in his basement after his business crumbled, the college moment that was really holding him back, and the identity shift that turned everything around. Ryan walks through Mark 9, Ephesians 2:10, the story of Joseph, and the five things he would never trade for his business. If you are winning professionally but sense something underneath is off, and you have no one truly in the trenches with you, this one is for you. Why Your Wife Misses the Man You Used To Be

You can be the husband everyone else respects and still be the reason your wife stopped waiting for you to come home. Not sure where your gap actually lives? I built a free tool that will tell you in under 10 minutes. Seven questions, no fluff, just clarity: https://mogbrotherhood.com/the-gap-check In this episode Ryan James Miller gets honest about the season in his own marriage when he was winning everywhere except at home. He was providing well, running the household like a business, and telling himself that was enough. It wasn't. He breaks down why marriages rarely fall apart from one dramatic moment. Distance builds one ordinary evening at a time, one missed cue, one time reaching for a phone instead of a wife. The gap gets built quiet, and most men never see it coming because everything on the outside still looks like winning. Key topics: Why running your house like a business does not make you present in your marriageThe difference between logistics and intimacy, and why high-performing men confuse the twoWhy working harder and waiting it out both fail as fixesThe three shifts that actually closed the gap in Ryan's own marriageWhy vulnerability, not competence, is the real cost of reconnecting with your wife Main takeaways: Your wife does not need a better plan from you. She needs to be seen and known.A dialed in calendar is not the same thing as your wife feeling known.Vulnerability is not weakness. In marriage, it is the cost of admission to real closeness. The insight underneath the whole episode. Presence and provision are not the same thing. A man can master one and still be a stranger in the other, and nobody claps for the one that actually saves a marriage. Stop Playing God For Everyone You Lead

He said if he disappeared tomorrow, everyone he provides for would be fine without him. Then he admitted the truth: they would not be fine, and neither would he. This is for the man carrying more than his back can hold and calling it calling. If you feel that tightness in your chest right now, keep reading. This one is for you. Learn more about The Aligned Man here - https://mogbrotherhood.com/the-aligned-man-journey In This Episode Ryan shares the story of a high-performing, Jesus-following man who reached out in crisis, overwhelmed, exhausted, and convinced that everything would collapse without him. What surfaced in that conversation was not a scheduling problem or a leadership problem. It was a savior complex wearing biblical language. Ryan walks through why sin that looks like sacrifice is far more dangerous than sin that looks like sin. Pornography and anger get resisted. Sacrifice gets applauded, even when it is actually pride wearing servant leadership as a disguise. Three shifts anchor the episode. Needed versus loved. A man who needs to be needed has quietly made himself God to the people who actually need God.Calling versus self-appointed. Real calling includes rest. If you never step away, what you are carrying is control, not calling.Sacrifice versus absorption. Real sacrifice produces peace. What this man had was desperation, and his wife was the one absorbing the cost of a burden that was never hers to carry. The heart of the episode lands here. God is not asking you to abandon anyone. He is asking you to stop being God for them. That is the drift. Naming it is the first step back. Key Takeaways The performance trap is not always about ambition. Sometimes it wears the mask of sacrifice and service.Self-reliance is the enemy underneath the performance trap, and it will dress itself in scripture to survive. The most loving thing a man can do is stop absorbing consequences that belong to someone else, so the truth can finally surface and get fixed. Why You Keep Breaking Promises To Yourself

You are not failing at discipline. You are trying to keep a promise made by a version of yourself you have not actually become yet, and that is why it dies by Wednesday every single time. Not sure where your gap actually lives? Take the free GAP Check before you go any further. Seven questions, ten minutes, a straight answer: https://mogbrotherhood.com/the-gap-check What This Episode Covers Every successful man knows the Monday feeling. Coffee is hot, calendar is clean, and the plan feels true. Then Wednesday hits, the plan cracks, and by Thursday he is already quietly building next Monday's version of the same promise. In this episode, Ryan breaks down why that loop is not a discipline problem. It is an identity problem wearing discipline's clothes, and no amount of willpower fixes a plan built on a foundation that is not settled yet. Key things covered in this episode: The real reason a plan that felt completely true on Monday cannot survive WednesdayWhy more effort, stricter schedules, and new accountability threads never actually holdThe performance trap, and how self-reliance is the enemy underneath it, not lazinessA real client story showing what changes when identity gets settled before behavior doesThe actual order that breaks the cycle: settled identity, known connection, clear calling, in that order The Core Insight You cannot hold a man accountable to a version of himself he does not believe in. Every plan built by the man you wish you were, aimed at the man you actually are, cracks under the first real pressure of the week. That is not weakness. That is a diagnosis. You were never built to close that gap alone. You were built for dependence on God and brotherhood with men who will actually ask you about your week on Wednesday, not just admire your plan on Monday. Three Things Quietly Wrecking High Performing Christian Men

You can win every scoreboard that matters to everyone else and still be quietly drifting where no one can see it, and the wound you never named is usually the reason why. Not sure where your gap actually lives? I built a free tool that will tell you in under 10 minutes. Seven questions, no fluff, just clarity: https://mogbrotherhood.com/the-gap-check In April 2019, I had my first anxiety attack in the middle of the best year of my career on paper. Thirteen years walking with Jesus. My own consulting practice. My biggest client, a five-figure monthly contract, on the verge of walking out the door. And I ended up curled in the corner of my office floor. This episode walks through that day minute by minute, then hands you the three step process I built out of it. I still use it every time the drift starts pulling me back under. We cover the three things that were quietly doing the damage before I ever hit the floor. Working harder instead of dealing with what actually hurt. Measuring my life by a scoreboard other people could see instead of what was true. Self medication, which for me looked like overwork instead of what I was really avoiding. We walk through the morning itself. The doubt about my calling, my capability, my worth. The three mile drive that felt impossible. The spiral about bills, about 2013, about what I would tell my wife and kids. And the three signals I ignored leading up to it, physical, mental, and spiritual, that I now know how to catch far sooner. The Core Insight The drift never shows up wearing a name tag. It disguises itself as a busy season, a rough stretch, just Tuesday. But a wound with no bandage on it does not heal because you call it normal. The second insight is the one most men miss. I did not get off that floor because I was strong enough. I got off it because I finally stopped trying to be. Your wound is not the disqualifier that costs you your man card. It is the raw material God uses to build the man. The Framework Acknowledge the hurt. Realize the effect. Unlock the greatness. That order matters, and this episode shows you exactly how to walk it with whatever you are dealing with right now, not just the moments that put you on the floor. And check out the links below to learn more about how we can help you achieve greatness. Take the free GAP Check before you do anything else.
