EP 83 - Billy Gaskey & Travis Green "Surrender the Glory"

EP 83 - Billy Gaskey & Travis Green "Surrender the Glory" Billy Gaskey and Travis Green, hosts of the Surrender the Glory Podcast, finally sit down with Buster for a conversation that has been a couple of years in the making. What starts with homeschooling, raising kids, and building community quickly turns into a much deeper conversation about faith, fatherhood, mentoring young men, vulnerability, and what happens when men stop giving the automatic “I’m good” answer. Billy and Travis share their experiences working with young men through church and youth ministry, including why connection has to come before correction and why today's young men need trustworthy adults willing to walk beside them, listen, and have conversations that aren't always comfortable. The guys also dig into the mission behind Surrender the Glory: giving people a place to tell their testimony. Not every story needs addiction, disaster, or a rock-bottom comeback. Sometimes the testimony is simply remaining faithful through ordinary life. Every story has value, because a story that seems ordinary to you may be exactly what someone else needs to hear. And because this is still the Good Old Boy Podcast, it doesn't stay serious the whole time. The conversation wanders through rucking, growing up in the '80s and '90s, questionable childhood decisions, Antarctica, Missing 411, dolphins, conspiracy theories, and plenty of other rabbit holes. Underneath it all, though, is a conversation about men showing up for their families, showing up for younger generations, showing up for one another, and being willing to admit when life isn't as simple as “I'm good.” As Travis puts it, men often carry things because they don't want to burden somebody else—but sometimes talking about it is exactly what takes a little weight out of the backpack. EP 81 - Fernando Chavira

EP 81 - Fernando Chavira In Episode 81 of The Good Old Boy Podcast, Fernando Chavira sits down for a raw conversation about what happens when the life that looks good on paper no longer feels right. Fernando shares his journey from chasing money, cars, relationships, partying, and the traditional definition of success to realizing that the real work had to happen internally. After recognizing destructive patterns in his relationships and his relationship with alcohol, he made the decision to take responsibility for his life, quit drinking, change careers, lean into his faith, and start becoming the man he actually wanted to be. The conversation gets into accountability, fear, faith, vulnerability, career changes, relationships, emotional awareness, and the importance of having people around you who are willing to speak into your life. One of the biggest themes is that perfection isn't the goal — consistency is. Sometimes the best thing you can do when you're overwhelmed is recognize what's happening, take one step, and call someone you trust. Fernando also challenges the idea that we should regret learning life's lessons "too late." Maybe some lessons can only be learned in certain seasons. The difficult chapters aren't interruptions to the story — they're part of what makes the story worth telling.
