Why You Can't Stop People Pleasing & How to Find Your Authentic Self

Why can't you stop people-pleasing even when you know it's keeping you from your authentic self? In this deeper discussion, intuitive coach Theresa Andersen sits down with therapist Katelyn Kohlen to unpack people-pleasing as a coping mechanism you learned to stay safe, not a flaw in who you are. If you grew up being accommodating or kept yourself small to keep the peace, saying things like: "I'm fine" when you were not fine, and saying yes when you really want to say no, this conversation is for you. You'll learn how to start with value clarification: "What actually matters to me, who do I actually want to be?"Learn how to notice where there's a disconnect between your values and how you're living, and practice pausing instead of automatically saying yes. Katelyn shares her toward and away moves framework for boundaries, and why sometimes the choice of most alignment doesn't feel good in the moment. Practical tools from this episode: Try "Let me think about that," "Let me check my schedule," or "Can I get back to you?" to create breathing room. Theresa shares her empty chair role-play and 3 morning pages journaling to process feelings and build self-trust.In this episode, we explore: • People-pleasing as a learned coping mechanism that kept you safe• Why the same coping no longer helps and creates distance from your authentic self • How to clarify your values across relationships, family, work, and health • How to pay attention to what you need learning about "toward moves vs away moves" Guest: Katelyn Kohlen is a therapist working with adults and children navigating anxiety, people-pleasing, ADHD and trauma. She draws from CBT, DBT, ACT and Exposure and Response Prevention to help clients get unstuck and build self-awareness. https://nextstepkelowna.com/our-counsellors/katelyn/ Find Katelyn on Instagram: therapy_with_katelyn https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/therapists/katelyn-kohlen-kelowna-bc/1577165 Books mentioned: The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris, Are You Mad at Me? by Meg Josephson Today is a good day to build a better day.. Beauty and the Beast Spiritual Meaning: Stop Hiding Your Shadow & Find Your Authentic Self

Are you feeling beastly, broken, or like you're hiding parts of yourself? You're not beastly; you're awakening. In this Deeper Discussion, intuitive coach Theresa Andersen and guest Ann Marie use Beauty and the Beast as a spiritual mirror for shadow work, limiting beliefs, and finding your authentic self. You'll learn why your "beastly" reactions are protection, how you put yourself under spells, and how to reclaim the gold you've given away to others. We explore Belle's hero's journey, the unconscious "sorting hat" that tells you what's acceptable to show, why busyness keeps you deaf to yourself, and how your "loose screw" is actually your beauty to offer the world. Perfect for you if you're on a spiritual awakening journey, doing inner child healing or tired of people-pleasing and hiding behind a mask. Try this today: Pause in nature for 60 seconds and let beauty drink into your body. Then journal: How can I turn towards myself and offer myself compassion and with kindness notice what is beautiful about myself instead? 💗 More from Theresa: check out her Instagram @iamtheresaandersenPondcast — new Guided Visualizations & Deeper Discussions weekly Instagram @iamtheresaandersen With love, Theresa, and remember that "Today is a good day to build a better day..."
