And we're here to share it. Every week, we take a two-hour journey through the sounds that helped shape America's musical landscape. You'll hear blues, jazz, country, gospel, folk, swing, rhythm and blues, rockabilly, soul, early rock 'n' roll, and plenty of musical cousins that don't fit neatly into any one category. We tip our hats to the legends, shine a light on the lesser-known pioneers, and dust off forgotten recordings that deserve another turn on the dial. But Deeper Roots is about more than spinning old records. It's about the stories behind the songs, the musicians who made them, and the remarkable ways one musical tradition gave rise to another. It's about the blues that found their way into country music, the gospel that helped give birth to soul, and the folk melodies that traveled from generation to generation, picking up new words, new rhythms, and new meanings along the way. Some weeks we'll follow a particular theme, explore a musical movement, or take a deep dive into the work of a songwriter or performer. Other weeks we'll just follow the music wherever it leads, making a few unexpected connections along the way. There's always something worth discovering, and sometimes the best treasures are hiding in the grooves of a record you've never heard before.
