Let’s talk about Indie Sleaze - with Nate Igor Smith

Vanessa reflects on her fascination with documentaries about NYC's legendary places and her quest to experience them after moving to the city. The episode unfolds the journey of finding a new niche and becoming a regular at DIY parties. People now call that period between 2008 and 2012 the "Indie Sleaze" era. Why? Well, after the Great Recession of 2008, there was a shift among young people away from the embrace of logo-centric and materialistic styles. Instead, there emerged a preference for a socially conscious, non-conforming style embodied by the rise of hipster vintage fashion. A bunch of folks from the nightlife scene were hipsters during the day, but come night, things got a bit messier. It was a whole vibe!   Vanessa sat with Igor and talked about his punk beginnings, what led him to NY, and his documenting of the indie sleaze area in NYC. They also touched on the bittersweet end of his time in NY. Driven out by those relentless rent hikes. The unforgiving cost of living has forced so many people to move out. The importance of daily practice & the path to higher consciousness

I had a beautiful conversation with the lovely Amanda Capobianco. She is one of my favorite NYC yogis (who is now in Thailand). We talk about the importance of daily practice and the path to higher consciousness.  Daily illumination practices can make a massive difference in our state of mind and allows us to access higher intelligence, such as our intuition. We are always being guided, but can we hold space to receive those messages?  Please tune in, as we discuss that and more in this episode of the VD podcast. 0:00 Intro And Amanda's bio  2:54 The Awakening Process  8:37 Moving Overseas   12:59 Tools For Awakening  14:18 Accessing Intuition  15:21 Scheduling Daily Practice  17:35 Releasing Liming Beliefs  19:57 Making Space For Healing  20:40 Do We Have A Role To Play?  22:00 Holding Sacred Fire  23:55 Fear And Mainstream News  26:19 Virtual Offerings  28:54 Final Thoughts Note: This video was recorded on May 23rd, 2020. Out of respect for this historic moment of national pain, we decided to hold off from releasing this podcast to make space for this important conversation regarding the killing of George Floyd and the ongoing problem of unequal justice. Even though none of the most recent events are in this conversation, I believe much of what we talk about here is relevant to help us navigate these turbulent times. It is our hope that we can open the awakening portal as a collective and move through this experience as a group and as an individual for healing.   ✿ Follow Amanda's IG https://www.instagram.com/amandacapob...  ✿ Follow Vanessa's IG https://www.instagram.com/vanessadiaz...
