Now That We're A Family

My only question… is there a reason you don’t share the sacrifices you make to each other as husband and wife? I’ve heard a lot of advice you give to others about sucking it up and putting up with a lot of stuff…

I’ve listened to Elisha and Katie for over three years. I was initially drawn in by Jenise’s wisdom, but I stayed because they consistently championed values that are increasingly rare: protecting family connection, refusing to let youth sports dictate family life, honoring the Sabbath, and shaping ambition around God’s design for marriage and family. Those convictions were what made their message so compelling. Lately, though, I’ve found myself wrestling with what feels like a tension between those values and what they now share publicly. Hearing about family dinners being interrupted by sports, the Sabbath becoming more flexible around activities, and the possibility of stepping away from homeschooling because of the demands of a growing business has been surprising to me. As someone who has listened for years, it’s been difficult to understand how these changes fit with convictions that once seemed so central to their message. I fully recognize that every family has seasons, changing circumstances, and decisions that outsiders can’t fully understand. I’m not writing to judge those decisions or expect perfection. I simply wanted to share that, as a long-time listener, I’ve felt some sadness watching what once seemed like defining convictions become less clear. I’m deeply grateful for all I’ve learned from them over the years, and I sincerely hope the values that first encouraged so many families continue to remain at the heart of what they teach and model.

I’ve listened to you guys’ podcast throughout my parenting journey. I’m 2-3 kids behind you guys so it’s been very helpful. I’d like to hear you guys talk about what aspects of parenting/caring for a child you don’t worry about. I know that as parents we wanna make everything as optimal and good for them as possible but perfection is not doable. So, what are some things you guys have let go of? If this is too vulnerable to share with the vultures of the internet, you could talk about what things your parents didn’t worry about (instead of sharing what you personally do), how it affected you and whether you do the same. Thank you!

I’ve listened to Katie and Elisha for a few years now and I’m continuously amazed by how much they uplift and honor each other. The amazing way Elisha talks about Katie as a woman, mom and wife is so encouraging and likewise with Katie to Elisha. Definitely a good podcast for Christian young couples in a world of spouses that constantly put each other down!
