Ep. 151 // Rescue on the Road

What would you do if you noticed your fellow driver was in danger — and no one else knew? In this episode of Terminal Exchange, drivers Doyle Chester and Sergio Cortez share the remarkable story of how Sergio helped save Doyle's life after Doyle suffered a stroke while on the road. After experiencing weakness and loss of motor function on his left side, Doyle managed to pull into a truck stop in Lincoln — where he collapsed in his truck for nearly 10 hours. When Jenny, an account manager at Nussbaum, couldn't reach Doyle, she called Sergio, who was nearby on another delivery. Recognizing the signs of stroke — facial drooping, loss of motor control, and cognitive confusion — Sergio called 911 and stayed by Doyle's side until paramedics arrived. Beyond the rescue story, this episode is an important resource for every driver on the road — covering stroke symptoms to watch for, why immediate medical attention matters, and safety habits like taking breaks every two hours to prevent blood clots. Ep. 149 // CDL Exam for Dummies with Cory Adams

What does it take to become an excellent truck driver—not just pass the test? In this episode of Terminal Exchange, Cory Adams, Senior Instructional Administrator at Nussbaum Transportation, shares the story behind writing CDL Exam for Dummies and his passion for developing skilled, safety focused drivers. Cory explains how he was approached by Wiley Publishing to author the book and spent 8–9 months creating a comprehensive 360-page guide designed to do far more than help readers pass the CDL exam. Drawing from a lifetime around trucks, tractors, and farm equipment—as well as his experience as an over the road driver, trainer, pastor, and basketball coach—Cory brings a practical, people first approach to driver education. Cory also discusses the challenges of working within the For Dummies publishing framework, collaborating with technical editor Jeff King, and why he believes strong education is essential as fewer people enter trucking with hands on equipment experience. Ultimately, this conversation highlights the importance of intentional training, safety, and raising the standard for the next generation of drivers.
