Marriage Mondays with The Kings

Kenya & ShanTrail King

Marriage Mondays with The Kings is a marriage and relationship podcast hosted by Kenya and ShanTrail King, a husband-and-wife team married for more than 27 years and hosts on KRGN 98.5 FM “The Rock” in Central Texas. We have honest conversations about the real challenges people face in marriage, dating, relationships, and family life. From communication, trust, forgiveness, intimacy, conflict, emotional healing, rebuilding after heartbreak, and strengthening connection to personal growth and purpose, we talk about the issues that can either strengthen a relationship—or slowly tear it apart. Our marriage has been a living testimony of growth, commitment, perseverance, and love in action. Through our lived experience, professional insight, humor, and encouragement rooted in God’s Word, our mission is to help people build healthier relationships and make intentional choices that lead to lasting change. This podcast is not only for married couples. It is also for singles preparing for marriage, engaged couples, individuals rebuilding after heartbreak or divorce, and anyone who wants to better understand themselves and how they show up in relationships. Marriage may not always be picture-perfect, but it can still be powerful. Sometimes the strongest relationships are built through honest conversations, accountability, healing, forgiveness, and the willingness to grow. Our motto says it best: Helping to build stronger marriages that lead to stronger families and stronger communities. So grab your spouse—or your notebook—and join the conversation. We are challenging unhealthy patterns, strengthening relationships, and helping people build the kind of love, connection, and community that can stand through real life. "The Self-Love Revolution: Are We Too Focused on Personal Growth?"

Send us Fan Mail Self-love is important. Personal growth is necessary. But can either go too far? We hear it everywhere: Choose yourself. Protect your peace. Set boundaries. Prioritize your happiness. Do what’s best for you. And sometimes, that is exactly what we need to hear. But in this episode of Marriage Mondays with The Kings, Kenya and ShanTrail ask a different question: What happens when our pursuit of self-love and personal growth begins to affect our ability to love, compromise, sacrifice, and grow with someone else? We explore the tension between becoming a healthier version of yourself and remaining committed to healthy relationships. Because personal growth should help us become better—not simply give us new language to justify avoiding accountability, discomfort, or the needs of others. In this episode, we discuss:  The difference between healthy self-love and self-centeredness  Whether “protecting your peace” can sometimes become avoidance  How personal growth can strengthen—or strain—a marriage  The role of boundaries without building walls  Why individual happiness cannot be the only measure of a healthy relationship  Growing individually while still learning how to grow together  How to recognize when “choosing yourself” may be costing you meaningful connection There is nothing wrong with loving yourself. There is nothing wrong with healing, evolving, setting boundaries, or becoming more emotionally healthy. The question is: Who are you becoming in the process? If your personal growth makes you healthier, more accountable, more compassionate, and more capable of loving well—that’s growth. But if “self-love” leaves no room for compromise, accountability, connection, or consideration for anyone else, it may be time to take another look at what we’re calling growth. You can grow as an individual without abandoning the responsibility of growing in relationship with others. Support the show

When AI (Artificial Intelligence) Becomes Your Marriage Counselor

Send us Fan Mail When did AI become easier to talk to than your own spouse? More couples are turning to artificial intelligence, Google, social media, forums, and other online spaces for answers to some of the most personal questions in their marriages—sometimes before having the conversation with the person sleeping right beside them. In this episode of Marriage Mondays with The Kings, Kenya and ShanTrail explore what happens when AI starts becoming the place we take our marriage questions, frustrations, fears, and private thoughts. Technology can be a helpful tool—but what happens when asking AI feels safer than communicating honestly with your spouse? And when does seeking guidance online cross the line into avoiding the conversations your marriage actually needs? In this episode, we discuss:  Why someone may feel safer talking to AI than their spouse  The fears that can make difficult conversations feel impossible  Some of the most common marriage questions people search for online  How relying on outside answers can affect trust, communication, and intimacy  The difference between using AI as a tool and treating it like a marriage counselor What Scripture teaches about listening, communication, and understanding  Practical ways couples can begin having the conversations they have been avoiding Focal Scripture: James 1:19 AI can give you information. It can help you organize your thoughts. It may even help you see a situation from another perspective. But it cannot do the work of your marriage for you. At some point, the question you typed into the search bar may need to become the conversation you have with your spouse. If you've ever found yourself asking AI something about your marriage that you haven't been able—or willing—to ask your spouse, this episode may hit a little differently. Listen, reflect, and then have the conversation. Support the show

IT’S TIME TO ELEVATE: Your Marriage

Send us Fan Mail Is your marriage truly growing — or just repeating the same cycles with different arguments? In this eye-opening episode of Marriage Mondays with The Kings, IT’S TIME TO ELEVATE: Your Marriage, we get honest about the real reason many relationships stay stuck. Spoiler alert: it’s not always your spouse. Many of the struggles couples face today are rooted in unhealed childhood wounds, emotional baggage, and toxic patterns that quietly follow us into adulthood. Using the powerful illustration of a hot air balloon, we break down how issues like control, fear of abandonment, unresolved anger, addiction, and people-pleasing act like sandbags — keeping marriages grounded when they were designed by God to soar. Rooted in Isaiah 40:31, this conversation explores how spiritual faith must be matched with emotional healing and personal responsibility. You’ll hear modern-day examples of how couples unknowingly replay their past in present conflicts, why prayer without action keeps us stagnant, and how true freedom comes when we release what’s toxic within. “When you release what is toxic to you, you feel free — and that freedom causes you to elevate higher.” We close with practical, faith-based tools individuals can start using immediately to bring healing, accountability, and elevation into their marriage. If you’re ready to stop surviving and start rising together, this episode is for you. Support the show
