How Of Virtue's "Death of the Altar" Brings a Heavier Bite to Metalcore & Damon Becomes a Dad

It is a true joy when we are able to watch a musician and an artist grow over the course of the almost 8 years that we have been doing the Chord Progression Podcast. We get to see them gain more fans, make a larger impact in the world around them, and take a step back to see that they are truly living their dream. We have had many of those artists come through the podcast. And this one, exemplifies all of it. From our first conversation at the end of 2021 with some new music in tow and trying to get more people into it, we have seen this band play larger shows, take risks, and grow all along the way. Metalcore is in a good spot with this band around. And now with a new album out that has more of a bite to it, along with some big life changes along the way, you have to root for this band. Damon from the Michigan metalcore band Of Virtue rejoins the Chord Progression Podcast for the 5th time, while on the road in Europe as the band is supporting the release of their new album “Death of the Altar” which is out now. Join us for another great 5 timer as we talk about: - The release of “Death of the Altar” and why Of Virtue is looking at the bigger picture of this album, by being thankful that they are able to live their dream of playing the music that they made, for people all across the world. - Damon’s update as he is about to become a father for the first time, and his ability to use his music experience over so many years to be the best dad that he can possibly be. - “Death of the Altar” and why the music has an increased bite to it, but why the writing foundation of the whole album had the idea of the live crowd interaction in mind. How Save Us Built a Band From 5,000 Miles Apart & the Need to Take Risks in Life

Life is all about the choices that we make. Sometimes we make the safe choices because we want the security of knowing our choices are right. Sometimes, we always play it safe and that causes us to never go after some of the wants and desires we have in life because, we do not to take a chance at losing what we have. But what if we don’t like what we have? Does playing it safe work? Musicians and artists take risks for their music that drives their lives. They make decisions to work on their music, take risks in order to give themselves the best chance to succeed in a creative space, and the ones that end up taking the risks with all their heart tend to win in the end. So, how about one that formed a band from over 5000 miles away? Miguel and Chris from the modern post-hardcore band Save Us join the Chord Progression Podcast as their debut album “Death to Something” is set for release on October 16th. On this episode, we talk about: - How Save Us started and figured out how to make their music ideas become reality while the members live 5000 miles away, because it was all about the dedication to achieve a dream. - The importance of taking the risks in life because, why play it safe when you only get one shot at life? - Why “Death to Something” is a showcase of Save Me’s sound to show a natural emotional delivery to their message that we can all connect with. The Success of Chained Saint; Blending Thrash Metal & Punk on "Rise to Fall EP" and Always Grinding

Two years ago, we brought on a band that was not only starting to gain popularity amongst metal fans, & getting endorsements from William Duvall from Alice in Chains, but were still in high school at the time. The world looked like it was right in front of the band, and theirs for the taking. We have seen many prodigy-like bands fall off after so much potential… but not this one. From touring all across the world, opening for artists like Slaughter to Prevail, and continuing to gain more and more notoriety from metal musicians and fans all across the world, these guys just keep working hard to be able to fill the metal music void in thrash and punk that a new generation is eager to find. But how are they making sure this is a success? Easy, they’re taking life by the throat and not letting go. Ethan from the South Florida metal band Chained Saint rejoins the Chord Progression Podcast for the second time as the band is all set to release their newest EP “Rise to Fall” on October 9th. Come and join us as we chat with Ethan all about: - How Chained Saint kept growing, 2 years following the release of their acclaimed debut album “Blindside,” by being fully invested in the grind it takes to be a successful band, and pushing for that success. - The new EP “Rise to Fall,” how people have been responding to the band’s new music live, & how the band seemingly blended thrash metal and punk rock together in a perfect, unique light. - What’s next for the band and how they are filling that classic thrash metal void for a brand new generation. "The Heaviest Alternative Rock Band Ever"? unpeople Arrive on Debut Album "we are unpeople"

This is a band that we are labeling “the heaviest alternative band that we have ever heard of” and that is not a label we give out lightly. When you hear an artist that is able to create a smooth flow and a groove that has a pop element, with nods to grunge and British punk all the way through, while throwing in some nasty unclean vocals, you know how eclectic and inviting it truly can be. But how can an artist that takes so many influences and so many risks create something so eclectic that it not only succeeds with the masses, but is something that is believable as the real thing… because it is the real thing. Well, we have the artist that pulled it off on the podcast today, and here we are, bringing them to you. Luke and Jake from the UK band unpeople join the Chord Progression Podcast as they are right about to release their debut album “we are unpeople” on October 9th. Since we called them “the heaviest alternative band that we have ever heard of,” let’s get you into them as we talk about: - Why unpeople are not worried about the release of their debut album, as they have learned from previous experiences what to expect, and having the confidence in the music that they have created. - The importance of having fun while writing music and playing live, & why unpeople try to make their live show as real as possible. - Creating the sound on “we are unpeople” where no preconceived sound started any song, all created by the guys just writing what they found fun, with a common British punk rock delivery. The most adventurous band you will discover on the Chord Progression Podcast this year (most likely). The Return Of Tokyo Rose: Why This Emo Band Returned to Music 18 Years After Their Last Album

The emo scene is alive and well once again like it was all the way back in the mid 2000’s. We are seeing bands like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy headlining major music festivals. We are seeing a resurgence of emo sounds and intricacies return to new music thanks to the long standing influence the genre had on new artists today. And that is also causing artists that were in the genre back in the heyday, to return. After 18 years since their previous record, this band returned to the world of music with a brand new EP and with a lot more energy behind them. But why did they return after 18 years? What caused them to be inspired to write new music? And does the quality still stand after so long? Well we are about to show you. Ryan from the emo band Tokyo Rose is on the Chord Progression Podcast today as the band recently released their first new music in 18 years on the “Never Say Die” EP. On this episode, we dive into the band and into the music as we talk about: - Why it took 18 years, life changes, and a reset of inspiration for Tokyo Rose to come back to start releasing new music once again. - The changes in the writing idea and style of music after 18 years that was caused by more stories after 18 years of life, no longer bound to release and writing cycles, and how it somehow all connects to a “recipe.” - How the guitar tone, melodies, and grooves on “Never Say Die” drive all the emotion and storytelling to create a much more expressive sound for Tokyo Rose. Why Miss May I Held Onto New Album "No Place For Me" for 2 Years After Recording: For Best Results

Do musicians sometimes wait too long before releasing new music? There are plenty of times where the answer is “yes.” It really all depends on the reason as to why they are taking so much time in between releases. Is it fear of what the public will say when new music is released? Is it a level of perfectionism that the artist strives for but can never fully achieve? Or is it so that the songs have a chance to breathe and the edit process is not rushed? So that the musicians can let the songs speak to them and give them time to either show that the song is perfect just the way it is, or reveal the piece that is missing that makes a good song great, and a great song amazing? When it is this reason, then we see more established artists take more risks with their music, where the reward is much greater. Levi from the mainstay metalcore act Miss May I joins the Chord Progression Podcast as the band is set to release their 8th album “No Place For Me” on October 2nd. Join us for a great conversation as we talk with Levi on this episode about: - Why Miss May I took 2 years to release “No Place For Me” following the recording of the album, in order to ensure that the songs had a chance to simmer, and revise parts properly. - How the band took chances with their music writing process given a brand new lineup from the past albums, with the freedom to create with new influences and give themselves time to curate the songs. - How Levi learned to detach from the negative online comments for the betterment of his own mental health and the music creation process, not beholden to a negative perception from random online comments. German Rock Band PLUME Proves AI Will Never Replace Human Touch on "Saferooms & Healing Frequencies"

As we continue on in the 2020's it is no surprise that the threat of AI to music just keeps growing. We hear stories of Ai musicians ripping off real artists and the casual listener does not seem to care at all. We hear more stories too about how more realistic the AI music seems. It is a terrible things for the true creatives out there. But there is something that these musicians have that the AI does not have. These real artists are humans, that have human senses and human connection, that could cause an imperfection in the writing process that could lead to something much more creative than originally thought possible. That is the one thing that AI will never be able to replicate, the human element. Pacey and Luka from the experimental German band PLUME join the Chord Progression Podcast as the band is set to rlease their debut album "Saferooms & Healing Frequencies" on September 25th. On this episode, we talk about: - The origins of PLUME, and how the band needed to balance the want to release new music as quickly as possible compared to letting the music grow with patience to create the best music possible. - How the debate around AI in music grows, and why the human part of music creativity is the one thing that AI will never replace, and artists will always have a leg up on. - How the use of different senses like smell and touch influenced the sonic presentation of "Saferooms & Healing Frequencies." How Banks Arcade Re-Found Happiness in Making Their New Metalcore Album "Second Place Superstar"

Whenever we as humans start something new, there is alwasy a massive amount of exceitement that kicks off the beginning of that journey. We are exctied to dive in deep, energetic to create something new, and happy to be doing something we find fun. But as time goes on, and more of the business and responsibilities side comes into play, things start to change. For many artists that are out there, once the business side becomes more stressful and pressing, then the creative side of music becomes less fun and more prcedural. When artists arent excited about their music, the art suffers. It is importance they find that sense of "new-found happiness" again. And well, we found one. Joshua from Banks Arcade joins the Chord Progression Podcast as the band is set to release their second album "Second Place Superstar" on September 25th.
