    COME AND SEE | "Come and See When the Land Breaks"

    One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was invite people to become his disciples. In the first chapter of John's gospel, he used the phrase "come and see" as part of that invitation. To "see" means to observe and listen within a specific real-world context and this fall we will specifically be looking at the character of the land in the Bible. Have you ever looked around at different events or happenings in the world and thought you yourself, "Something is not right"? Whether it's broken relationships/marriages, fractured families, messy politics, or environmental disasters, we all have had that feeling before. What about when the land bears witness to the fact that something isn't right? This morning, our Digital Content Producer and Worship Leader, R.O. Smith, discusses the passage found in Hosea when the land bears witness to God about the sin of the people of Israel. The land degrades under the weight of injustice and reflects the spiritual condition of people under the weight of sin.     COME AND SEE | "Come and See a Cultivated Land"

    One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was invite people to become his disciples. In the first chapter of John's gospel, he used the phrase "come and see" as part of that invitation. To "see" means to observe and listen within a specific real-world context and this fall we will specifically be looking at the character of the land in the Bible. God did not just give the Israelites the land, but he loaded it with potential and possibility. He called them to cultivate it and work it for both now, and the future as well. Land that is cultivated is a long, slow process and it involves participation, not just Divine intervention.     COME AND SEE | "Come and See the Wilderness"

    One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was invite people to become his disciples. In the first chapter of John's gospel, he used the phrase "come and see" as part of that invitation. To "see" means to observe and listen within a specific real-world context and this fall we will specifically be looking at the character of the land in the Bible. Have you ever looked at your wilderness seasons or times in your life as acts of Gid's grace? Have you ever been thankful during times of hopelessness and spiritual dryness because you knew your character and identity were being shaped in those times? Yeah, same here. It's hard for us to see life in the wilderness as a training ground for identity formation. Yet, that is is exactly what it is. God uses harsh environments to form our identity around Him.     COME AND SEE | "Come and See an Alternative Land"

    One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was invite people to become his disciples. In the first chapter of John's gospel, he used the phrase "come and see" as part of that invitation. To "see" means to observe and listen within a specific real-world context and this fall we will specifically be looking at the character of the land in the Bible. This week, we continue to look at how the land shaped the live and theology of the people of God, and what we can learn from their land. This morning, we fast forward in the story to when the people of God were about the enter the Promised Land, and Moses was giving them final instructions.     COME AND SEE | "Come and See a Land that Resists Control"

    One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was invite people to become his disciples. In the first chapter of John's gospel, he used the phrase "come and see" as part of that invitation. To "see" means to observe and listen within a specific real-world context and this fall we will specifically be looking at the character of the land in the Bible. In the story of Lot and Abram, we see the easier life being compared with the harder, yet God's promise remains with Abram. But it is strange that in the choice, Abraham had a say in the land chosen. And yet, he essentially "passed" the choice to Lot. Why? The text makes it clear that visually the choice seemed pretty obvious, which is why Lot chose the Land he did. So was there something else going on?     COME AND SEE | "Come and See a Land of Scarcity"

    One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was invite people to become his disciples. In the first chapter of John's gospel, he used the phrase "come and see" as part of that invitation. To "see" means to observe and listen within a specific real-world context and this fall we will specifically be looking at the character of the land in the Bible. As we continue to study the land as "character" in the Bible, we examine how immediately following the call of Abram, two verses later, there was a famine in the land. Why? What did this mean? Why was the land constantly having famines along with other issues. The week, Pastor Karla talks about how famine reveals the limits of the land to invite dependence on God.     COME AND SEE | "Come and See the Chosen Land"

    One of the first things Jesus did in his public ministry was invite people to become his disciples. In the first chapter of John's gospel, he used the phrase "come and see" as part of that invitation. To "see" means to observe and listen within a specific real-world context and this fall we will specifically be looking at the character of the land in the Bible. In the first sermon of our Fall Series, Pastor Karla opens a familiar passage, but points out an odd piece of the story that probably none of us have stopped to examine deeper...The tree of Moreh at Shechem. It is through this often overlooked part of the passage that reveals how God calls Abram to a specific land.     This summer, we explore themes from popular films alongside Scripture, uncovering how God's truth speaks through the stories we love. From adventure and sacrifice to redemption and hope, each week reminds us that God is present in every part of our story—inviting us into something greater. This week is our last week in the Cinema Sundays Series. Our Director of Men & Youth Ministries, Ryan Silvia, closes out the summer with the epic journey of a young moisture farmer turned Jedi named Luke Skywalker. In the movie Star Wars: A New Hope, Ryan discusses how in a universe of shadows, Christ is always the light that dispels the darkness.
