    On this latest episode of Dermalogues, host Dr. Kerri Purdy is joined again by Dr. Mark Kirchhof for some Derm Myth-Busting. Kerri has been hearing from Residents looking for answers about some Derm Myths that are popping up on social media and elsewhere. Together, Kerri and Mark tackle some of the most common — and most talked about — myths in dermatology, from “topical steroid withdrawal” and “natural sunscreens” to “slugging,” “collagen supplements,” “beef tallow skincare,” and even “perineal tanning.” Dr. Purdy and Dr. Kirchhof separate science from social media hype, giving residents practical, evidence-based ways to address the questions they’re hearing in clinic every day. They also take a look ahead at how AI could reshape dermatology practice in the near future. Dr. Kirchhof is the Division Head of Dermatology at the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital, and the current President of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA). His research focuses on immune-system signalling pathways in dermatology, and he previously served as Education Director at Queen’s University.     S7 Ep6: Pregnancy Dermatoses with Dr. Perla Lansang

    Pregnancy brings major hormonal and immune changes—and the skin often reflects it. In this final episode of season 7 of Dermalogues, Kerri sits down with Dr. Perla Lansang to break down common and high-yield dermatologic conditions in pregnancy, from physiologic changes to PEP (PUPPP) and pemphigoid gestationis. They discuss how to recognize key patterns, when to biopsy, and how to treat safely—including the role of systemic therapies. The episode also emphasizes a critical takeaway: don’t undertreat pregnant patients—healthy moms are essential for healthy pregnancies. Dr. Perla Lansang is a staff dermatologist and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, based at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. She has held leadership roles including Division Director and Director of Undergraduate Education, and is cross-appointed in pediatric dermatology at the Hospital for Sick Children as well as Obstetric Medicine at Sunnybrook.
