Ep. 387: When Will You Stop Running?

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 387, “When Will You Stop Running?” Kim discusses the vivid imagery in Jeremiah 2 that describes the Israelites' unfaithfulness. The Lord asked them: “When will you stop running? When will you stop panting after other gods?” Good questions for us to answer today, don’t you think?   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 2:23-37, with 23-25 as the focal verses:   23 “You say, ‘That’s not true!     I haven’t worshiped the images of Baal!’ But how can you say that?     Go and look in any valley in the land! Face the awful sins you have done.     You are like a restless female camel     desperately searching for a mate. 24 You are like a wild donkey,     sniffing the wind at mating time. Who can restrain her lust?     Those who desire her don’t need to search,     for she goes running to them! 25 When will you stop running?     When will you stop panting after other gods? But you say, ‘Save your breath.     I’m in love with these foreign gods,     and I can’t stop loving them now!’     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   To which gods have you been running?   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.   RESOURCES USED FOR BOOK OF Jeremiah/Lamentation PODCASTS: “The Wiersbe Bible Commentary: The Complete Old Testament OT in One Volume” “Christ-Centered Exposition: Exalting Jesus in Jeremiah & Lamentations by Steven Smith “Life Application Study Bible” “The Swindoll Study Bible: NLT” by Charles R. Ep. 385: Quit Wasting Your Time Looking for Cheap Substitutes

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 385, “Quit Wasting Your Time Looking for Cheap Substitutes,” Kim discusses the strong word picture the Lord painted through the words of Jeremiah. God accused the people of Israel of two sins: (1) abandoning the Lord—the fountain of living water; (2) instead digging cracked cisterns that couldn’t hold water. This picture applies to Christ-followers today just as it did for the Israelites.   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 2:1-13, with 13 as the focal verse:   13 “For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me—     the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns     that can hold no water at all!     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   Name one area of life in which you have been settling for a knockoff.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.   RESOURCES USED FOR BOOK OF Jeremiah/Lamentation PODCASTS: “The Wiersbe Bible Commentary: The Complete Old Testament OT in One Volume” “Christ-Centered Exposition: Exalting Jesus in Jeremiah & Lamentations by Steven Smith “Life Application Study Bible” “The Swindoll Study Bible: NLT” by Charles R. Ep. 384: After the Call, the Confirmation

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 384, “After the Call, the Confirmation,” Kim discusses the confirmation of his call the prophet Jeremiah received. God was so gracious to encourage young Jeremiah by beginning to show him what ministry would look like and letting him know that there would be challenges, but the Lord would handle them for him.   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 1:12-19, with 18-19 as the focal verses:   18 For see, today I have made you strong     like a fortified city that cannot be captured,     like an iron pillar or a bronze wall. You will stand against the whole land—     the kings, officials, priests, and people of Judah. 19 They will fight you, but they will fail.     For I am with you, and I will take care of you.     I, the Lord, have spoken!”     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   How did the Lord confirm the call on your life? Ep. 383: For What Has God Appointed You?

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 383, “For What Has God Appointed You?” Kim discusses the call of the prophet Jeremiah and the lessons we can each learn from this touching encounter. Have you ever asked the Lord what He has appointed you to do? Are you walking each day in that calling, or have you put it aside?   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 1:1-10, with 5 as the focal verse:   5 “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.     Before you were born I set you apart     and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   If you were to have a conversation with the Lord similar to young Jeremiah’s, what do you believe He would tell you that you were appointed to do?   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.   RESOURCES USED FOR BOOK OF Jeremiah/Lamentation PODCASTS: “The Wiersbe Bible Commentary: The Complete Old Testament OT in One Volume” “Christ-Centered Exposition: Exalting Jesus in Jeremiah & Lamentations by Steven Smith “Life Application Study Bible” “The Swindoll Study Bible: NLT” by Charles R. Ep. 382: Turning Points In History

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 382, “Turning Points in History,” Kim discusses how turning points in history affect us, whether they be personal turning points or those of nations. In today’s text, we see a turning point in the history of the nation of Israel: the fall of Jerusalem. God had consistently sent His prophets, especially Jeremiah, to warn the people of the consequences they would experience for their sinful lifestyles, but they refused to heed the warnings. May we learn from their bad choices, as well as our own turning points, and live lives wholly surrendered to the Lord.   Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 25:1-21 and 2 Chronicles 36:17-21, with 2 Chronicles 36:17-21 as the focal verses:   17 So the Lord brought the king of Babylon against them. The Babylonians killed Judah’s young men, even chasing after them into the Temple. They had no pity on the people, killing both young men and young women, the old and the infirm. God handed all of them over to Nebuchadnezzar. 18 The king took home to Babylon all the articles, large and small, used in the Temple of God, and the treasures from both the Lord’s Temple and from the palace of the king and his officials. 19 Then his army burned the Temple of God, tore down the walls of Jerusalem, burned all the palaces, and completely destroyed everything of value. 20 The few who survived were taken as exiles to Babylon, and they became servants to the king and his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power. 21 So the message of the Lord spoken through Jeremiah was fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate until the seventy years were fulfilled, just as the prophet had said.     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   Identify the turning points of your life. Ep. 381: Defining Moments vs. Moment of Defiance

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 381, “Defining Moment vs. Moment of Defiance,” Kim discusses the similarities and differences between King Zedekiah of Judah and Samson. Both leaders had opportunities in the midst of great adversity to cry out to God, but only one used his voice to beg God to intervene. What became a defining moment for Samson was only one last moment of defiance for Zedekiah, and his life and legacy are found lacking.   Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 25:1-7, with 7 as the focal verse:   7 They made Zedekiah watch as they slaughtered his sons. Then they gouged out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him in bronze chains, and led him away to Babylon.   Lagniappe:   21 So the Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. They took him to Gaza, where he was bound with bronze chains and forced to grind grain in the prison…28 Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.” 29 Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands, 30 he prayed, “Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime. (Judges 16: 21, 28-30)     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   As you ponder the moments described in Samson’s and Zedekiah’s lives, what lessons did the Lord bring to your mind?   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   2 But neither King Zedekiah nor his attendants nor the people who were left in the land listened to what the Lord said through Jeremiah.
