Susto

One of my students (from Venezuela) made this trip when she was 12 and she told me ALL the things. Based on what she described, I would take my chances with the shapeshifting forest deities. The most terrifying thing one can encounter on this trip are people. Merciless people who take advantage of the traveler’s extreme vulnerability, desperation, and exhaustion. I will never forget the awful stories she told me. Gracias a Dios ella esta bien hoy, y nadie le hizo daño en la jungla, pero no puedo decir el mismo sobre otras niñas quienes ella encontró en la travesía. Thank you for educating us about this.

Just found this show and binging it. I do have a little story to share. A couple years ago my husband’s cousin passed away in El Salvador. He had been asking to speak and see my husband since they were close but my husband couldn’t make the trip to go see him. So later that night around 3am we were sound asleep and was woken by 3 hard knocks on our bedroom window . It woke both of us up at the same time asking each other if we heard that. We looked out the window didn’t see anything . We went back to sleep and that morning we got the call that he had passed away. We think it was him who came to say good bye to my husband :

This one really gave me the chills. My mom described an experience she and my dad experienced years ago. Their experience matches this to a T. Still creeps me out. Loving this podcast.
