Episode 505, The Andrew Parker Show – 25 Years After 9/11: Patriotism, Moral Relativism and a Political Awakening

Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, what lessons have we learned — and what have we forgotten? Andrew Parker welcomes back writer, Army veteran and political thinker Shane Hachey for a deeply personal conversation about 9/11, patriotism, moral relativism and the political transformation that followed one of the most consequential days in modern American history. Hachey was living in New York City and attending Columbia University when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center. At the time, he describes himself as an anti-war, left-wing Army veteran who had voted for Ralph Nader. But as he watched the attacks unfold — and then encountered the reactions of fellow students and intellectuals in the months that followed — his worldview began to change. Drawing from his essay, “9/11 Republicanism,” Hachey explains how the moral relativism he encountered after the attacks forced him to reconsider his political assumptions and ultimately led him to identify as what was once called a “9/11 Republican.” Andrew and Shane examine the difference between traditional liberalism and today’s progressive movement, patriotism and criticism of America, the rise of socialism, radical Islam, political ideology and the importance of being willing to challenge your own beliefs when facts and better arguments demand it. They also consider a question that extends far beyond politics: Are we still willing to distinguish between right and wrong — or has moral relativism made even that increasingly difficult? It’s a candid discussion about September 11, the political realignment it produced for a generation of Americans and why its lessons remain relevant 25 years later. Episode 504, The Andrew Parker Show - The Politics of Renaming: Indigenous History, Israel and the Left’s Double Standard

What do Denali, Lake Calhoun, military bases and Israel have in common? A LinkedIn post about the renaming of American landmarks sparked an unexpected exchange between Andrew Parker and a longtime liberal friend — and ultimately a much bigger conversation about history, indigenous identity and political consistency. In Episode 504 of The Andrew Parker Show, Andrew examines the controversy surrounding the renaming of historic landmarks, geographic locations and military installations under both Republican and Democratic administrations. From Mount McKinley becoming Denali to Minnesota’s Lake Calhoun becoming Bde Maka Ska, he considers why names change, whose history society chooses to recognize and why those decisions can become so politically charged. But Andrew takes the discussion one step further. If recognizing indigenous peoples and their historic connections to ancestral lands matters, he asks, why does that principle seemingly disappear in much of the political debate surrounding Jews and Israel? Andrew argues that the Jewish people’s historical and archaeological connection to the land of Israel stretches back thousands of years and challenges those who recognize indigenous claims elsewhere while rejecting Jewish indigeneity in Israel, Judea and Samaria. It’s an episode about more than names. It’s about history, political hypocrisy, competing narratives and whether the principles we defend are being applied consistently. And, appropriately enough, it all begins with an old-fashioned Boston pencil sharpener and a reminder that sometimes it pays to get back to the fundamentals. Episode 503, The Andrew Parker Show - Is America Protecting Its Enemies? Radical Islam, Qatar and the Battle for Western Values

America was built on freedom of religion, freedom of speech and constitutional protections that distinguish it from much of the world. But what happens when those very freedoms are used by extremist movements that reject the principles on which the country was founded? In Episode 503 of The Andrew Parker Show, Andrew examines the threat posed by radical Islamic extremism and asks a difficult question: Has America's commitment to tolerance made it reluctant to confront ideologies that seek to undermine Western democratic values? Andrew distinguishes between the world's vast population of peaceful Muslims and the extremist organizations and movements he argues must be confronted. From ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood to the growing influence of foreign money and ideology within American institutions, he examines what he sees as a much larger battle over America's constitutional principles. The episode turns particular attention to American higher education and Northwestern University's relationship with Qatar. Andrew discusses claims surrounding hundreds of millions of dollars in Qatari funding, allegations of antisemitism on campus and concerns about the influence foreign governments and organizations may have on what American students are being taught. At the center of the discussion is a fundamental question: How does a free society defend freedom without allowing its own principles to be used against it? Andrew argues that protecting America's constitutional republic requires recognizing the difference between protecting individual religious liberty and ignoring extremist ideology—and he challenges peaceful Muslims to take a greater role in confronting radicalism within their own communities. Listen to Episode 503 of The Andrew Parker Show for Andrew's perspective on radical Islam, antisemitism, foreign influence in American universities and the responsibility of Americans to defend the constitutional principles that make the country free. Episode 502, The Andrew Parker Show – Best Of – From Good Government to Ground Zero for National News: How Progressives Have Destroyed Minnesota, PART II

As Minnesota and the nation move closer to another consequential election, The Andrew Parker Show continues its Best Of series with Part II of a conversation whose issues have only become more relevant. Originally aired as Episode 452, “From Good Government to Ground Zero for National News: How Progressives Have Destroyed Minnesota, PART II,” Andrew continues his examination of Minnesota’s place at the center of a national debate over immigration, law enforcement, public safety, political leadership and the rule of law. At the heart of the episode is a fundamental principle of American democracy: elections have consequences. Andrew argues that Americans can strongly disagree with immigration policy, law enforcement priorities and the decisions of elected officials. But in a democratic society, those disagreements should ultimately be resolved at the ballot box and through the legislative process — not by deciding which laws should be followed, interfering with law enforcement or allowing political unrest to descend into violence. Andrew examines the role of federal law enforcement and ICE, the responsibility of state and local leaders, the difference between peaceful protest and unlawful interference, and the real-world consequences of illegal immigration. The conversation then moves beyond Minnesota and America’s borders to Iran, Israel and U.S. foreign policy, as Andrew considers what strength, deterrence and decisive leadership can mean for national and global security. With voters preparing to make important choices in the upcoming elections, Part II raises another timely question: When we disagree with the direction of government, how should change happen in a democratic society? In this Best Of edition of The Andrew Parker Show, Andrew makes the case that the answer lies in elections, the democratic process and the rule of law. Episode 501, The Andrew Parker Show – Best of – From Good Government to Ground Zero for National News: How Progressives Have Destroyed Minnesota

As Minnesota and the nation head toward another consequential election, The Andrew Parker Show revisits an episode whose subject matter has only become more relevant. Originally aired as Episode 451, “From Good Government to Ground Zero for National News: How Progressives Have Destroyed Minnesota,” Andrew examines what he sees as Minnesota’s transformation from a state once nationally recognized for good government into a recurring center of political controversy, unrest and national headlines. From public safety and the rule of law to law enforcement, immigration, political leadership and national security, Andrew asks a fundamental question voters should consider as they prepare to return to the ballot box: What kind of society do we want to live in? He examines the role and responsibility of government to protect its citizens, the consequences of allowing politics to influence law enforcement, and what happens when elected officials prioritize political considerations over public safety and security. The discussion extends beyond Minnesota to immigration and ICE enforcement, Israel, Iran and national security — connecting decisions made by political leaders to their real-world consequences. With the upcoming elections putting many of these issues — and the leaders responsible for addressing them — back before voters, this is a conversation worth hearing again. In this Best Of edition of The Andrew Parker Show, Andrew makes the case for putting public safety, security and the rule of law ahead of partisan politics, regardless of which party holds power. Episode 500: Ronald Reagan’s Warning Still Relevant 50 Years Later – The Andrew Parker Show

Episode 500 of The Andrew Parker Show marks two milestones: the 500th episode of the podcast and the 50th anniversary of one of the most consequential moments in modern American political history. On August 19, 1976, Ronald Reagan narrowly lost the Republican presidential nomination to Gerald Ford. Then, unexpectedly called to the convention stage with nothing prepared, Reagan delivered a remarkable six-minute speech centered not on his defeat, but on America’s future. His question was profound: When future generations look back, will they say we recognized the threats to freedom and met the moment? Fifty years later, Andrew Parker revisits Reagan’s message and asks whether America faces a similar test today. From the threat of a nuclear Iran and instability in the Middle East to isolationism, socialism, communism, antisemitism and America’s role as a leader in the world, Andrew argues that Reagan’s warning remains strikingly relevant. He also considers one of history’s great “what ifs”: What if Reagan had defeated Ford in 1976, gone on to defeat Jimmy Carter and entered the White House four years earlier? Could the Iranian Revolution, the hostage crisis and decades of instability in the Middle East have unfolded differently? For Episode 500, Andrew looks back 50 years to ask a question about the future: Are we meeting the moment? There is no substitute for victory. Episode 499, The Andrew Parker Show – The Anti-Israel Turn: What Happened to the Democratic Party?

Episode 499 of The Andrew Parker Show marks a milestone: 10 years of Andrew Parker behind the microphone on radio and podcast. In this episode, Andrew tackles a question that has become increasingly difficult to ignore: Why does such a small percentage of the world’s population command such disproportionate attention, criticism and hostility? Andrew examines the historical connection between the Jewish people and the land of Israel, challenges the characterization of Israel as a colonial power, and explores what he sees as a dramatic political shift in the United States—particularly the Democratic Party’s changing relationship with Israel. He also discusses the rise of antisemitism, the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America, radical Islamism, and the political alliances he believes are reshaping attitudes toward Israel and the Jewish people. At the center of the conversation is a larger question about Western values, moral clarity and whether political expediency is allowing dangerous ideas to go unchallenged. Why has bipartisan support for Israel eroded? When does criticism of Israel cross into antisemitism? And what explains the extraordinary scrutiny directed at the world’s only Jewish state? Andrew makes his case and invites you to make yours. Episode 498, The Andrew Parker Show - The Gaza Genocide Narrative: What the Star Tribune Intentionally Fails to Tell You

In Episode 498 of The Andrew Parker Show, Andrew Parker takes on what he argues is a deeply misleading narrative surrounding Israel, Gaza, and accusations of genocide — and examines how that narrative is being amplified by institutions many Americans consider authoritative. At the center of the episode is a recent Star Tribune article about the University of Minnesota's $250,000 settlement with Israeli-American historian Raz Segal after the University rescinded its offer for him to lead its Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Segal has described Israel's actions in Gaza as genocide, and Andrew challenges both that characterization and the way the Star Tribune presented the controversy.  Andrew also examines the newspaper's reliance on the United Nations as an authority on Israel, reviewing what he describes as a decades-long pattern of disproportionate UN resolutions targeting the Jewish state. He argues that readers deserve far more context when UN commissions, casualty figures, and conclusions about Israel are presented as authoritative.  The episode goes deeper into the genocide accusation itself: What does genocide mean under international law? Does Israel's military campaign against Hamas meet that definition? What role do civilian casualties, humanitarian aid, Hamas's tactics, and the realities of urban warfare play in answering that question? Andrew lays out five arguments for why he believes the genocide charge does not withstand scrutiny.  Finally, Andrew closes with a different perspective from the Arab world, sharing the story and message behind The Arab Case for Israel and its author's journey from accepting what he had been taught about Israel to questioning those assumptions for himself.  When does reporting cross the line from presenting facts to reinforcing a narrative? And how can readers distinguish between credible evidence, institutional authority, and repetition? Listen now to Episode 498 of The Andrew Parker Show. Smart, plain talk.
