    Episode 334 | "Xbox gains some XP"

    After another solid week in video games, Jon, Nick and Jesse return to chat about all the latest news, games, and Nick's habitual cutscene skipping. Jump in for The DayOne Show Episode 334! As always, we kick off the show by diving into what we've been playing. Gears of War: E-Day is a frequent topic of conversation with it's excellent Horde Siege mode, and the usual 'Insanity' campaign run through, though Nick is still taking it slow in his ongoing hunt for every collectible. Jesse has reviewed a number of titles releasing this week, from the horny horror of Hellraiser: Revival to the sumptuous expansion in Dragons Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. This week has also seen a number of games release, including a couple for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. First there's Neon Abyss 2, which has launched everywhere in 1.0 form following a year or so in Early Access on PC. We also have Forever Ago, a new narrative focused game about love, loss and regret which Jon has been playing following an excellent review from Joe Cumbo on the site. Despite all the great video games, there's also been plenty of industry goings-on to dive into, in what feels like a very Xbox-centric week. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma held a town hall at Xbox HQ and revealed that Gen-10 (Project Helix) will be a 'Family of Devices' with some being made by third party partners. Xbox also announced a new division - Xbox XP - which will focus on 4 verticals for Microsoft including a focus on film and TV entries in popular franchises. There was some reporting around Xbox, streaming and GTA6 and crypto-scam leaker Cyberleek returned to threaten Rockstar with the release of the full game unless he gets money, or Rockstar makes a physical version. Oh, and Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a movie in partnership with Paramount and CDPR.     Episode 333 | "Gears of War: E-Day is one of the year's best."

    Emergence Day has finally arrived and it’s time for Jon, Nick and Jesse to sit down and catch up on all of the incredible games this week in the DayOne Show Episode 333! In a nice change, the big topic this week isn’t on news, or rumours and industry drama, but on the games. None is making more conversation than Gears of War: E-Day, out now in “Early Access” on Xbox and PC. We’ve been playing it, and all agree it’s a genuinely incredible experience, and the best Gears has ever looked, sounded or felt to actually play, ever. Incredibly, E-Day doesn’t stand alone this week in terms of squadmates on the battlefield that is the release calendar. This week has seen a ton of great games release, or their embargos lifted. We’ve got indie metroidvania ‘End of Abyss‘, which is dark, gorgeous and full of challenge and mystery, even if it needed a little more time in the oven. There’s also the crowd-pleasing ‘Minecraft Dungeons 2‘, which while not necessarily a critical success certainly seems to be landing well with players, and is a vast improvement on the first game in the series. Lastly, we’ve got ‘Star Wars: Galactic Racer‘, which has reviewed very highly, and comes thoroughly recommended as an incredibly addictive AAA arcade racer. Really feels like something for everyone this week! On the news front, there’s not a huge amount to talk about. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma declared Xbox is ‘not for sale’ in a recent interview with the New York Times, as Xbox continues to make moves for its console fan-base, with Mythic Achievements available for Xbox insiders on all test rings, and the Disc-to-Digital program is now available to all on console.Sony also revealed God of War Laufey pre-orders are now live, and confirmed Naughty Dog are working on a couple of Last of Us projects, along with sharing that we’ll see more from Intergalactic in 2027.     Gears of War: E-Day | Review

    Gears of War: E-Day is the game that cements The Coalition as one of the top developers in gaming. A picture-perfect campaign, full of grit, emotion, brilliant design, and sheer spectacle, takes us through the start of it all. The eponymous Emergence Day sees us through three days and nights of the fall of humanity. It is a stunning achievement, with excellent gameplay, pacing, and writing.
