    Sleeping in Church

Have you ever walked into church hoping to find peace, only to leave feeling more exhausted, judged, or discouraged than when you arrived? Church hurt is real. And for some people, the very place that should offer encouragement, belonging, and the love of Jesus has become another source of stress. Pastor Jason Barnett explores one of the Bible's most unusual stories: a young man named Eutychus who falls asleep during the Apostle Paul's teaching, tumbles from a third-story window, and dies. But what happens next reveals something powerful about compassion, Christian community, and God's grace. Through Acts 20:7–12, we'll explore why holiness does not erase our humanity, how Jesus responds to human weakness, and what it means to build a church where hurting and exhausted people can finally catch their breath. Whether you've experienced church hurt, stepped away from Christianity, struggled with religious judgment, or simply feel overwhelmed by life, this message offers an invitation to reconsider the love of Jesus. You don't have to pretend everything is okay. You don't have to earn God's love. And being human doesn't make you a failure. Church should be where we catch our breath, not where we continue gasping for air. Burning the Scroll

Have you ever wondered if your prayers, encouragement, and efforts to help someone are making any difference? You keep showing up. You keep praying. You keep sharing God's love. But the person you're trying to reach keeps making the same choices. Eventually, you begin to wonder whether your faithfulness matters. In Burning the Scroll, the final message of our Burning Scrolls sermon series, Pastor Jason Barnett explores Jeremiah 36:20–26, where King Jehoiakim deliberately destroys God's written warning rather than responding to it. What happens when God's Word is rejected? Does rejection mean we've failed? And how do we keep trusting God when our prayers seem unanswered and the people we love refuse to change? Through a personal story from Army combat medic training, biblical teaching, and the hope found in Jesus Christ, this sermon explores the difference between being faithful and being responsible for someone else's response. Whether you're praying for a struggling family member, walking alongside someone battling addiction, sharing your Christian faith, or simply feeling discouraged in your spiritual journey, this message offers biblical encouragement to keep trusting God's power. We keep carrying God's Word because its power is never defeated. Read the Room

Can you be right about the Bible and still be wrong in how you treat people? Christians are called to speak God's truth, but sometimes our desire to correct others gets in the way of showing them the love of Jesus. We know what Scripture says, but do we really understand the people we're trying to reach? In Read the Room, part two of the Burning Scrolls sermon series, Pastor Jason Barnett explores Jeremiah 36:8–19 and what it teaches us about sharing God's Word with wisdom, humility, and intentionality. As Baruch delivers Jeremiah's message, we discover that faithfully communicating biblical truth involves more than simply saying the right words. It requires recognizing the people receiving them. This sermon challenges religious self-righteousness, confronts the temptation to use Scripture as a weapon, and encourages believers who genuinely want to share their faith more effectively. It also offers hope to those who have experienced judgment, rejection, or hurt from Christians. Find a Way

What do you do when you desperately want someone to know Jesus, but every way you’ve tried to reach them seems blocked? In Jeremiah 36:1–7, God gives Jeremiah a message for a people He longs to restore. But there’s a problem: Jeremiah cannot go where the people are. The obstacle is real. Instead of allowing it to become the end of the mission, Jeremiah finds another way. In “Find a Way,” the first message in the Burning Scrolls sermon series, Pastor Jason Barnett challenges Christians who believe, attend church, and genuinely care about people, but may have quietly settled into “we tried.” What happens when our heart for the lost begins to align with God’s heart for restoration? This Christian sermon explores evangelism, sharing your faith, reaching people for Jesus, biblical restoration, Christian discipleship, and faithfully carrying God’s Word when familiar methods no longer work. Who is the person you want to see restored to God? What obstacle has made reaching them difficult? And is there another way? If their restoration matters to God, it should matter enough to us to find a way. How are you saved?

How are you saved? Is being a good person enough? Most of us have some kind of spiritual scoresheet. We look at the good we've done, the mistakes we have made, how often we go to church, or how our lives compare with everyone else. Some look at the score and think, "I've done enough." Others look at it and wonder, "Could God ever want someone like me?" But what if both are looking in the wrong direction? In this sermon from Ephesians 2:4-10, Pastor Jason Barnett explores what the Bible says about salvation, God's grace, faith in Jesus, and good works. Paul's answer is surprisingly freeing: salvation isn't something we accomplish or earn. It is God's gift, and the good things we do come after God makes us alive in Christ, not as a way of convincing Him to save us. Whether you're exploring Christianity, new to following Jesus, carrying regrets from your past, or have been in church your entire life, this message invites you to consider one important question: When you think about whether you are saved, are you looking at what Jesus has done or at what you have done? Put down the scoresheet. You are not saved by what you have done, but by what Jesus has done for you. Pick Up the Hammer

You believe in Jesus. You know the Bible stories. Maybe you can point back to the moment you first gave our life to Christ. But when was the last time your faith actually moved you? In "Pick Up the Hammer," Pastor Jason Barnett closes the Faith in Work Boots series from James 2:20-26, where James points to Abraham and Rahab as examples of a faith that didn't stay safely on the shelf. Their trust in God became visible through obedience. This isn't a message about doing more church stuff, earning God's love, or proving you're a good Christian. It's about the uncomfortable gap between saying, "I believe" and actually following Jesus when He asks us to move. If your Christian faith has become routine, if most of your stories about God happened years ago, or if you've been waiting for somebody else to do what God may be asking of you, this message is for you. What is the next thing Jesus is asking you to do? You don't have to do everything. You just have to trust Jesus enough to take the next step. Living faith leaves footprints, and you cannot leave footprints until you move. Sharing the Load

Most of us would never say we believe some people matter more than others. But what happens when our actions reveal a seating chart we didn't realize was there? In James 2:1-13, James confronts favoritism in the church and challenges the way Christians judge people by wealth, reputation, family, appearance, and status. His words are uncomfortable because he doesn't dismiss favoritism as personal preference or harmless bias. He calls it sin. But this message isn't only for those who have judged others. It is also for anyone who knows what it feels like to be judged, overlooked, or made to feel like the wrong kind of person. The answer James points us toward isn't more judgment, it is mercy. What does loving your neighbor actually require? How should the mercy of Jesus change the way Christians see and treat people? And what if some of our hardest judgments reveal places where we still need Christ's mercy ourselves? People who receive mercy don't add to the load; they share it. In this message from the Faith in Work Boots series, Pastor Jason explores James 2:1-13 and what it teaches about favoritism, Christian judgment, church hurt, mercy, holiness, loving your neighbor, and a faith in Jesus that changes how we treat people around us. Don't Ignore the Cracks

It is easy to see the cracks in someone else's life. Their bad decisions. Their anger. Their compromises. Their sin.  But what if James wants to inspect a different house? In this sermon from James 1:13-15, Pastor Jason Barnett explores where temptation really begins, why our desires make certain bait attractive, and what happens when the cracks within us are ignored. James challenges us to stop blaming God, the devil, our circumstances, or the people around us long enough to honestly examine our own hearts. But recognizing what is broken isn't the end of the gospel. Jesus offers more than better behavior or stronger willpower. Through the cross, resurrection, and transforming work of the Holy Spirit, we can receive forgiveness for sin and experience real transformation from within. Faith does the hard work of confronting what is broken within. What crack has God shown you're finally willing to let Him repair?
