The Pure in Heart: The Reward of Purity - June 21 2026

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). With these words, Jesus reveals both the character of a true kingdom citizen and the incredible reward promised by God. In a world that often celebrates outward appearance, Jesus points deeper, to the heart. The purity that God desires is not merely external morality or religious activity, but a heart completely devoted to Him, shaped by love for God and a desire to live according to His will. Yet this command also reveals our great need. None of us can make our hearts pure through our own efforts. Our sin has corrupted us and separated us from the holiness of God. But the good news of the gospel is that Jesus provides the purity we could never achieve. Through His sacrificial death on the cross, He cleanses us from sin and gives us a new standing before God. Through the Holy Spirit, He continues His work within us, transforming our desires and enabling us to pursue a life of faithful devotion. The pursuit of purity is not about earning God’s love, but responding to the grace we have already received in Christ. And the ultimate reward is beyond anything this world can offer: the joy of seeing God, knowing Him fully, and dwelling with Him forever. The pure in heart will receive the greatest blessing of all, eternity in the presence of their King. The Fullness of Hunger - June 7 2026

Most people spend their lives trying to satisfy their hunger. We hunger for success, security, comfort, acceptance, pleasure, and significance. We chase one desire after another, convinced that the next achievement, possession, or experience will finally make us content. Yet no matter how much we gain, the hunger remains. The world offers countless promises of satisfaction, but it never truly fills the emptiness within the human heart. In the Beatitudes, Jesus turns our thinking upside down. He declares, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied" (Matthew 5:6). This is a surprising statement because hunger and thirst are normally uncomfortable conditions. They remind us of something we lack. Yet Jesus says that those who feel a deep spiritual longing are actually blessed. This hunger is not a casual interest in spiritual things. It is an intense craving for God's righteousness, for a right relationship with Him, a holy life that reflects His character, and a world where His justice reigns. Jesus promises that those who seek these things above all else will not be disappointed. Unlike the empty promises of the world, God alone can truly satisfy the deepest needs of the soul. Today, we will examine what it means to hunger and thirst for righteousness, why this hunger is essential to the Christian life, and how Jesus Himself is the only One who can fully satisfy it. Sermon on the Mount Overview - May 3 2026`

In a world that measures success by power, recognition, and self-advancement, the idea of being “blessed” often feels tied to comfort and achievement. People speak of blessing as good circumstances, personal wins, or visible prosperity. Yet when Jesus speaks of blessing, He turns those expectations upside down. He describes a kind of life that does not chase status, does not depend on ease, and does not fit neatly within the values of a fallen world. To be blessed, according to Jesus, is not about having everything go right. It is about having God’s approval. It is about belonging to His kingdom and living under His rule, even when that places us at odds with the culture around us. This kind of life will often look strange. It will seem weak where the world demands strength, humble where the world celebrates pride, and merciful where the world seeks revenge. It is a life marked by paradox, where loss can be gain and sorrow can lead to joy. These are not natural instincts. They do not come easily to us. Yet they are the very qualities that define those who belong to God’s kingdom. We must see clearly that Jesus is not merely setting a standard for us to imitate. He has perfectly lived this life on our behalf. He is not only our model but our Saviour. It is through His righteousness that we are welcomed into God’s kingdom and empowered to live in a way that reflects it.
