Who Actually Owns Your Life? Why Luke 1:17 Changes Everything Ep. 360

Who actually owns your life—and what does your calendar, bank statement, and investment in relationships reveal about your priorities? Andy and Linda begin November’s focus on stewardship and gratitude with a conversation about managing everything God has entrusted to us. Together, they explore four areas of biblical stewardship: time, talents, treasures, and relationships. From crowded family schedules and overlooked gifts to financial habits and meaningful connections, they share practical ways to put faith into action. Andy discusses encouraging his children’s unique talents, while Linda reflects on prioritizing time with her aging father and trusting God through the loss of her husband, Merrill. Grounded in James 1:17, this episode invites us to shift from claiming ownership to caring faithfully for God’s gifts. What might change if we approached each day with open hands and asked, “Lord, how do You want me to use what You’ve given me?” This week’s challenge: Choose one area of stewardship, discuss it with someone you trust, and take one intentional step toward growth. The Occult: It's Not a Game Ep. 359

Is it really just harmless fun? From Ouija boards and horoscopes to tarot cards, witchcraft, and communicating with the dead, occult practices have become increasingly normalized in today's culture. But what does the Bible tell us about these things, and how should Christian parents respond? In this episode of the Rock Solid Families Podcast, Linda Hutchinson and Jenna Helton continue October's theme of Spiritual Warfare by tackling the difficult topic of the occult and its influence on individuals and families. Through personal experiences, biblical teaching, and practical parenting advice, Linda and Jenna discuss the importance of recognizing spiritual deception while keeping our hearts and homes grounded in God's truth. They also share seven practical ways parents can build biblical discernment in their families, including creating an environment where children feel safe asking questions, being intentional about media influences, establishing healthy boundaries, and surrounding their families with strong Christian community. This conversation isn't about creating fear or condemning others. It's about awareness, wisdom, and remembering that Jesus Christ has already overcome the darkness. As Linda reminds us, our calling as parents isn't to raise children who are terrified of the dark, but children who know the Light. Key Scriptures: Ephesians 6:10–13, Deuteronomy 18:9–12, James 4:7, Romans 12:2, 1 John 4:4, and 2 Timothy 1:7. Armor Up! Fighting Spiritual Battles in your Home Ep. 358

Spiritual Warfare Is Real — Are You and Your Family Ready? As parents, husbands, and wives, we can sometimes find ourselves fighting the wrong battle. Conflict in our homes, tension in our marriages, struggles with our children, and the pressures of culture can make it easy to see other people as the enemy. But Scripture reminds us that our real battle is spiritual. In this episode of the Rock Solid Families Podcast, Andy and Linda take a practical look at Ephesians 6:10–18 and the Armor of God, talking about what spiritual warfare looks like and how we can prepare ourselves and our families to stand firm. Together, they walk through: • The Belt of Truth — teaching our families to recognize truth and compare what we hear from the world with God's Word • The Breastplate of Righteousness — protecting our hearts and living with integrity • The Shoes of Peace — becoming peacemakers rather than simply avoiding conflict • The Shield of Faith — learning to trust God instead of picking up the enemy's "flaming arrows" of anger, resentment, fear, and lies • The Helmet of Salvation — protecting our minds and being intentional about what we allow into our homes • The Sword of the Spirit — knowing and using God's Word in the battles we face • Prayer — continually communicating with God and covering our families in prayer Andy and Linda also discuss Christian parenting, cultural influence, social media, teaching children biblical discernment, and the importance of having a strong Christian community. They introduce the ROAR approach to helping kids recognize and respond to messages that conflict with God's truth: Recognize. Offer discernment. Argue for a healthier approach. Reinforce through discussion, discipleship, and prayer. The goal isn't to completely shelter our children from the world. It's to prepare them to live in the world while standing firmly on God's Word. Most importantly, we don't have to fight these battles alone. "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." — Joshua 24:15 Scripture discussed: Ephesians 6:10–18 1 Peter 5:8 Proverbs 4:23 Romans 12:2 2 Timothy 3:16 Joshua 24:15 If this episode encourages you, share it with another parent, couple, or family who could use the reminder that the battle is real—but God has given us what we need to stand firm. Connection in Marriages with Linda and Robert Ep. 357

What if the biggest problem in your marriage isn't communication—but connection? In this episode of the Rock Solid Families Podcast, Linda Hutchinson and Robert Reese go deeper than communication techniques and explore a question every spouse needs to consider: “Are you there for me?” Using the ARE framework—Accessible, Responsive, and Engaged—Linda and Robert talk about what it looks like to create emotional safety, connection, and oneness in marriage. They discuss why knowing the right communication skills isn't always enough, how shutting down and withdrawing can create even more disconnection, why empathy needs to come before fixing, and how to replace criticism with the language of longing. You'll also hear practical examples for putting these ideas into action—from putting down your phone and giving your spouse your attention to staying engaged when conversations become difficult. Most importantly, Linda and Robert connect the conversation back to God's design for relationships and the biblical call to love, forgive, draw near, and “weep with those who weep.” If you've ever felt lonely while sitting right next to your spouse, this conversation is for you. Also, the A.R.E. questionnaire that was referenced is linked below. This is a great exercise for couples to discern where they are with their ability to emotionally connect.
