Cults and Crime

I really like the content and both hosts, but the music played during their reading and sharing of the stories is distracting and unnecessary. I wish they would just delete the music track, it is so not needed. I can’t listen to this podcast because of it. I don’t understand why the hosts think it is necessary. The music during their reading disturbs their own vocal inflections and is working against the overall podcast listening experience. I’ll be back when they get rid of the audio during the reading of the podcast content.

Maybe they don’t edit the show. But it’s hard to listen when the storyteller has a hard time reading the script. The format is just all over the place.

I just listened to their episode from 2019 on the Unification Church. My parents are former members and I was raised in the church myself. I was so horrified by all the false and TERRIBLE information given in that episode. I have my own issues with the church, and it definitely has its problems, but almost every piece of information they said was completely false. I am really wondering if they had any reliable sources at all, or if they were basing this entire episode on one single person’s experience, possibly someone abused by an individual, but not by the actual practices of the church. Especially the idea of a man OWNING his wife or her sexual organs. My understanding is that, in a speech, Moon did say that each spouse’s sexual parts belonged to the other, but only in the context of being faithful. What a miscarriage of information. This made me so sad. Also, the idea that the church believed that black people were seen as inferior is completely ludicrous. One of the major foundations of the church was to abolish racism, and MOST of the arranged marriages were interracial. I hope these podcasters learn something here. This is really shameful.
