Hello out there, we're on the air! It's your ol' pals co-host Tom and co-host Jared, and it's time to talk some hockey. We don't pretend to be insiders or know-it-all experts, no, we are just two pretty regular dudes who play hockey, watch hockey and talk hockey! Tune in each week to hear the fellas talkin': fun facts about your favourite players from bygone eras; discussion of current events and hot topics; beer league chatter and rinkside banter; the occasional guest (check the archives for when we had lots of guests over the pandemic era) ... and much more!     SEASON 8, EPISODE 33 - 1995-96 COLORADO AVALANCHE

    The cup finals are finally upon us, and the pod is heatin' up with the squad that won it all 20 years ago - the Colorado Avalanche!  We talked about the team they beat back in episode 27, but these Av's were a team built for the post season!  In the first year post-Quebec, the boasted a vet heavy lineup led by Burnaby Joe, who was joined by Forsberg, Ricci, Leschyshyn, Foote, Kamensky and bolstered by the in-season acquisitions of Patrick Roy, Sandis Ozolinsh and playoff beast Claude Lemieux, this team clobbered the Red Wings in the semis and then swept the Panthers in the finals. Speaking of, we pour one out for Claude Lemieux who passed this week tragically - our thoughts go out to his family, friends and the fans he made along the way. Then we do a quick post-mortem for the Habs and this years Avs before talking finals and which team we might hate less. The Parkhurst Pack Attack is back and we've got some great music for ya too!

    SEASON 8, EPISODE 32 - 1978-79 NEW YORK RANGERS

    It goes with out saying, but the 1978-79 Rangers might have been one of the best hangs of all time!  Whether they were cuttin' ads for fine European denim or makin' disco records with funny man Alan Thicke, Espo and the boys got the job done on AND off the ice!  Despite his initial reluctance to the move, big 77 showed he could still put the puck in the net on Broadway, and he was joined by the dynamic Swedish duo of Anders and Ulf, plus the standout mullet of Ron Duguay and with solid play by JD between the pipes, they went all the way to the finals before falling in five to the wagon Habs. In the second, we're talkin' playoffs, were the Avs seem to have lost their mojo and the Canes-Habs looks like it might go the distance. In the third, we try and figure out the IIHF website and tease our big Jets round table which is coming together as we speak!

    SEASON 8, EPISODE 31 - 1991-92 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

    On Talkin' Hockey, we're all about the long weekends, and so of course we're here today, albeit in pre-recorded form!  We've talked about both the opponents that they faced in the finals during their back to back Cup runs, so today we're talkin' Penguins!  The 1991-92 squad had a bit of a roller coaster season before settling in to take Lord Stanley for the second straight year.  Their coach, the legendary "Badger" Bob Johnson had to step down in the off-season when he was diagnosed with cancer, and sadly he passed away in November of 1991.  The team was sold, also in November, to a couple of fellas from the Minnesota North Stars ownership group that they had vanquished the year before - a guess if you can't beat 'em, you buy 'em!  On the ice, it was the usual cast of characters - Lemieux, Stevens, Francis, Jagr, and Mullen, plus steady Tom Barrasso between the pipes and a blue line featuring Paul Coffey and newcomer Larry Murphy.  Ol' Paul got shipped out in February shakeup alongside Mark Recchi that steadied the squad, adding toughness with Rick Tocchet and Kjell Samuelsson coming in.  They finished strong and blew through the playoffs, sweeping the Blackhawks in the finals. Speaking of playoffs, we'll catch you up on the current goings on as 3 of our 4 semi-finalists are set, with a big game 7 between Montreal and Buffalo set to go as we exit the airwaves today.  Colorado and Vegas carry on the proud Jagr tradition this year, as both Brett Kulak and Rasmus Andersson played with the mulleted magician meaning that this is year marks the 46th (!!!) straight that the finals will feature a former teammate of ol' #68. Finally, co-host Tom slips into Mats Sundin's silky Swedish slacks and we break down the myriad of questions facing the Maple Leafs this off season.

    SEASON 8, EPISODE 30 - 1993-94 TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS

    After a week to rest and recuperate after a stellar Pledge-O-Rama show, the boys are back and we're talkin' Buds baby!  Maybe the last great Leaf's team - the 1993-94 edition that featured a real cast of characters lead by leading scorers Doug Gilmour, Dave Andreychuk and Captain Wendel Clark, plus mid-season pickup Mike Gartner and Dave Ellett and Jamie MacCoun on the blue line!  The Cat, Felix Potvin was one of the league's best tendys that year and helped carry the squad to the conference finals vs. the Canucks where they fell in 5. We're also talkin' present day Leafs, who had a busy week - hiring a new GM and head of Hockey Ops, which turned into a bit of a clown show, before some how securing the top spot and the right to take Gavin McKenna!  Plus, your Winnipeg Jets pick 8th - will they keep the pick, package it for top 6 help, or draft another euroleague superstar who will overstay his welcome down on the farm! Finally, we've got a World Cup of hockey update and another edition of the ol' Parkhurst pack attack!

    Season 8, Episode 29 - PLEDGE-O-RAMA 2026!

    Are we raising funds for this great campus and community radio station this week? Oh baby for sure!  We'll talk a little bit about the 1969 California Golden Seals - but then we're jumping right into the pledge talk!  We've got all sorts of awesome hockey related prize packs from our pals at Garage League, Apuckalypse and Bag Skate Hockey Club, tonnes of vintage books and packs of cards, Talkin’ Hockey shirts and stickers - and even a ticket to join Tom and I at a Jets game.  Are you Crankin' The Coffey or are you Beatin' The Babych - get your cash together and make a pledge before Friday at 8PM!     SEASON 8, EPISODE 28 - 1992-93 MONTREAL CANADIANS with guests We're Here For The Snacks!

    The playoffs have started and the quest for Lord Stanley has begun - so naturally, the boys are here today to talk about the 1992-93 Montreal Canadians, the last homegrown squad to hoist the cup!  Lead by Patty Roy between the pipes, and Vinnie Damphousse, Brian Bellows, Kirk Muller and Guy Carboneau up front, plus a great young D corps, the blanc, bleu et rouge defeated Gretz and the Kings 4-1 in the finals! In period 2, we're joined by great local band We're Here For The Snacks to talk about making their debut record, which Winnipeg band would make the best hockey team, and then they do a special edition of what else .... snacks! Finally we do a quick round the league to discuss team's first playoff games, plus what's up with Helly's comments - we appreciate the passion, but it's time to put up or shut up #37!

    SEASON 8, EPISODE 27 - 1995-96 FLORIDA PANTHERS with guest Ryan Gullen from The Sheepdogs!

    After an action packed weekend, the lads are here on your radio again ready to talk a little hockey! First up we'll tell you all about the Florida Panthers, '95-'96 edition, who reached the cup final in only their 3rd season in the league!  Lead by the Beezer between the pipes and Scott Mellanby's mullet up front, plus JovoCop in his rookie season, these Cats ran through the Eastern Conference taking out the Bruins, the Flyers and the Penguins before getting swept in the finals by the newly located Colorado Avalanche! In the second, we're joined by bass playin' hockey aficionado Ryan Gullen from The Sheepdogs, who are in town this week to play two shows - a sold out small club gig on Thursday, and then at the Burt on Friday!  Limited tickets are available for that second show, so be sure to get your mitts on 'em fast! Finally in the third, we're talkin' playoffs - who's in and who's out, as we pour one out for the Jets season.  We're saying that there might be a chance, but let's be honest, there's not really much of a chance.  Plus we've got a Hab Trick of stat lines!

    SEASON 8, EPISODE 26 - 1997-98 WASHINGTON CAPITALS

    Comin' in hot with a 1/2 priced Easter candy hangover, it's time to give a little praise for your favourite co-hosts, cuz once again they've risen to the task!  It's Season 8, episode 26 and we're going tell you all about the '97-'98 Caps!  Lead by the dynamic scoring duo of Special Agent Peter Bondra and supreme set up man Adam Oates, this squad reached the franchise's first Stanley Cup final before getting broomed by the Winged Wheel from Detroit, which was kinda the style at the time.  Olie The Goalie stood tall between the pipes and  they had three (!!!) fellas eclipse 1000 points for their careers (Oates, Phil Housley and Dale Hunter) a record that still stands. In period two, we talk about the shocking, and not so shocking, firings in the NHL - Brad Treliving gets the boot as the Leafs GM and Patrick Roy gets shown the gate on Long Island with only 4 games remaining, as the Isles turn to Pete DeBoer to turn the team's fortunes.  We break down a whole whack of playoff scenarios as the pretenders and the contenders come into sharper focus by the day, plus we pour one out for the Panthers as they prepare to hit the golf course 2 1/2 months earlier than anticipated! And, we've got two great stat lines for you this week as Sid the Kid ascends to proper status on the side of the mountain. Finally in period three, we tell you how to get into our official playoff pool (here's a hint - email us!), plus we talk Spring hockey, Lake of the Woods, and wrap our Upper Deck pack attack with our first ever trade!
