By creating conversations around how best to support each other with a humanitarian goal in mind, we hope this podcast will become a resource for members of the art, design and activist communities.     Episode 16: Kevin King

    Unicode, orthography, typography, syllabics, diacritics—what do these terms mean and how do they relate to our way of representing, interpreting and designing language? In our conversation with typographer Kevin King, we take a deep into these concepts and how we can work towards a more inclusive representation of written text, especially when bringing indigenous languages into written, both online and in print. L’Unicode, l’orthographe, la typographie, les syllabiques, les signes diacritiques—que signifient ces termes et quel est leur lien avec notre manière de représenter, d'interpréter et de concevoir le langage ? Dans notre conversation avec le typographe Kevin King, nous approfondissons ces concepts et la manière dont nous pouvons travailler envers une représentation plus inclusive du texte écrit, en particulier lors de l'intégration des langues autochtones dans l'écrit, à la fois en ligne et sur papier.

    Episode 8: Giovanna Borasi

    Giovanna Borasi is the director of the Canadian Centre for Architecture. In this interview, we discuss her upcoming 3-part documentary film series (directed by Daniel Schwartz and produced by the CCA) entitled “What it Takes to Make a Home”, which explores how changing societies, new economic pressures, and increasing population density are affecting the homes of various communities. We also discuss some of the CCA’s past exhibitions and their curatorial work ethos. Giovanna Borasi est la directrice du Centre Canadien d’Architecture. Dans cette interview, nous discutons de sa prochaine série de trois documentaires (réalisés par Daniel Schwartz et produits par le CCA) intitulée «What it Takes to Make a Home», qui explore comment les sociétés en mutation, les nouvelles pressions économiques et la densité croissante de la population affectent les habitations de diverses communautés.     Episode 7: Pamela Hart

    In this episode we have the pleasure of sharing our interview with Pamela Hart. Pamela is a sound engineer, educator, musician, songwriter, baker, and thrift hunter among many other things. She has toured the world as a front-of-house sound tech for many different bands, has led workshops on live sound, and led discussion groups about women and non-binary artists in the music industry. Pamela has volunteered for numerous organizations in Montreal including Rock Camp, and has collaborated and toured with many musicians including Mozart’s Sister and Mich Cota. Dans cet épisode, nous avons le plaisir de partager notre conversation avec Pamela Hart. Pamela est ingénieure du son, éducatrice, musicienne, compositrice, boulangère et adepte de friperie, entre autres choses. Elle a fait le tour du monde en tant que technicienne du son pour de nombreux bands, elle a animé des ateliers sur le son en direct et a dirigé des groupes de discussion à propos des femmes et des artistes non-binaires dans l’industrie de la musique. Pamela a fait du bénévolat pour de nombreuses organisations à Montréal, dont le Rock Camp, et a collaboré et est partie en tournée avec de nombreux musiciens, dont Sister de Mozart et Mich Cota.     Episode 6: Koa Beck

    Aside from being one of our heroes, Koa Beck is the former editor-in-chief of Jezebel and co-host of “The #MeToo Memos” on WNYC’s The Takeaway. Previously, she was the Executive Editor of Vogue.com and the Senior Features Editor at MarieClaire.com. During our interview, we cover issues ranging from white feminism as it intersects with capitalism (a topic central to Koa’s upcoming book, “White Feminism”), Indigenous communities in Canada and the delicate notion of territorial acknowledgements. We also talk about whether cats see our hands as part of us, or as separate creatures entirely. En plus d’être l’une de nos héroïne, Koa Beck est l’ancienne rédactrice en chef de Jezebel et co-animatrice de «The #MeToo Memos» sur l’émission The Takeaway du WNYC. Auparavant, elle a été rédactrice en chef de Vogue.com et rédactrice en chef des rubriques de MarieClaire.com. Au cours de notre interview, nous couvrons des questions allant du féminisme blanc à son intersection avec le capitalisme (un sujet central du prochain livre de Koa, « White Feminism« ), aux communautés indigènes du Canada et à la délicate notion de reconnaissance territoriale.     Episode 5: Cheryl Sim

    For our fifth episode, we had the opportunity to interview Cheryl Sim. Cheryl is a multidisciplinary artist, and the Curator and Managing Director at the Phi Foundation. During our interview, we discuss her time at the NFB (ONF) and at various artist run centres, and the ethics of art-making and curating. Pour notre cinquième épisode, nous avons eu l’occasion d’interviewer Cheryl Sim. Cheryl est une artiste multidisciplinaire, et la conservatrice et directrice générale de la Fondation Phi. Au cours de notre entretien, nous discutons de son séjour à l’ONF et dans différents centres d’artistes, ainsi que de l’éthique de la création artistique et de la conservation. (Épisode en anglais)
