#399: Using Fear, As A Compass - For What's Important.

Send us Fan Mail Fear doesn’t always mean danger. Sometimes it’s your internal compass pointing straight at the thing you care about most. We unpack a simple, practical reframe that turns “I’m scared” into “this is important,” and we show how that shift changes what you do next, whether you’re chasing a relationship, a career move, a creative goal, or a personal challenge you’ve been avoiding. We also dig into the hidden logic behind taking risks: if you do nothing, the answer is already no. If you try and fail, the answer is still no. So the only outcome you can’t get through silence is yes. That lens helps take the sting out of rejection and failure, because it highlights what’s real: progress comes from swinging, not from waiting for perfect timing or perfect confidence. From there, we challenge the way we use the word “difficult,” arguing it often just means “new” or “I don’t have reps yet.” We connect that to bold goal setting and mindset tools like the 10X Rule and the high-performance mentality associated with David Goggins, plus the power of writing goals down so your thinking turns into results you can measure. We close with a push to stop being reactive and start creating opportunities on purpose, especially when fear shows up at the door. If this mindset helps you, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a quick review. What’s one “important” thing you’re going to do this week even if you feel the fear? #397: Don't Wait - For An Opportunity. Make One..

Send us Fan Mail Getting booked can be harder than writing jokes and sometimes the most frustrating part is knowing your material works while the calendar stays empty. I’m honest about where I’m at right now: I haven’t posted as much because I’ve had fewer updates, and the real issue is simple, I haven’t forced enough opportunities. So I’m going back to basics and walking into open mics and local comedy clubs to remind people what I do and to get that stage-time hunger fed. We also get real about stand-up comedy pay rates and why so many offers feel upside down. If someone wants a high-level comedian but only wants to pay entry-level money, the math doesn’t work, especially once you factor in driving, hotels, flights, and food. I share how I explain pricing up front without bitterness, and why protecting your rate is not ego, it’s protecting the whole game from becoming “Mercedes results on a Honda budget.” Then we dig into the mindset that keeps me moving: forcing opportunities is a win-win. If you don’t ask, you already have a no. If you ask and they say no, nothing changes. If you ask and they say yes, everything changes. I connect that idea to comedy, dating, sports, and self-promotion, and I explain my approach to joke writing right now: one-liners, short stories, fast tempo, and zero wasted words to match today’s attention economy. If you’re building a career in stand-up, creativity, or any craft that needs reps, come hang with me for a shot of urgency and strategy. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a push, and leave a review, what’s one opportunity you’re going to force this week? #394 Belief In God, Faith, & Manifestation - Believing in Your Own Prayers,

Send us Fan Mail Faith gets thrown around so easily that it can start to feel like a foggy word, even when you’re a Christian who’s trying to do the right thing. I wanted to slow down and say what faith means to me right now: it’s not only belief in God, it’s belief in the dream He put in you and the willingness to bring that dream into real life. That’s where manifestation comes in, not as “magic,” but as focus, imagination, and action meeting prayer. I talk about my own goal of becoming a professional comedian and what it looks like when you pair spiritual belief with real discipline: getting up early, putting in reps, and learning to “see the finish line” before you ever touch it. We also get into what makes comedy hit, layers of dark and light, and why having a specific outcome matters even when you’re talking about hard topics. The bigger point is simple: clarity gives you leverage. When you can put your faith into words, you can live it on purpose. We close with an image I can’t shake: God is like a fire. If you stand far away and complain it’s cold, the problem isn’t the fire. If any of this connects with you, listen, share it with a friend, and leave a review. What’s one dream you’re ready to pray for and actually believe? #393 - Wasted Steps. Every Step Counts.*

Send us Fan Mail Small mistakes don’t just steal time—they train your brain to repeat the wrong move. We dig into “wasted steps,” the two-part nature of learning, and how efficiency becomes a superpower when life applies pressure. Using jiu-jitsu as a living lab, we explore how calm breathing and clear choices under tension translate to better decisions in creativity, work, and relationships. From the mat to the mic, we show why effortless performance is built on deliberate practice and ruthless reduction of rework. You’ll hear how a simple grocery misstep turned into extra trips and lost momentum, and why tiny systems—lists, checklists, quick post-mortems—protect your day from drift. We connect the dots across comedy, boxing, golf, and negotiation to show a pattern the pros share: less thrash, more intention. Instead of pushing harder, learn to move cleaner. Instead of trying to be clever, let precise words and prepared timing do the work. Efficiency isn’t about rushing; it’s about choosing once and committing. We also talk about breaking bad loops and the cost of encoding the wrong habit. Every repeated error becomes muscle memory you’ll have to unlearn. So we lean on simple practices: breathe before you move, name your options, pick the highest leverage action, and close the loop with a quick review. Keep your checklist visible. Finish the task in front of you. Then roll into the next rep with focus. If this hits home, follow the show, share it with a friend who loves systems, and leave a quick review with your best tip for cutting wasted steps. Your feedback helps more listeners find the podcast and move with purpose. #392 - LESSONS Learned..

Send us Fan Mail Ever notice how the smallest shift can change your whole day? We explored that idea through the lens of jiu-jitsu, then carried it straight into real life. By resetting familiar habits and questioning old assumptions, we found leverage in unexpected places: when to write goals, how to trigger action, and why owning your mistakes creates faster learning on and off the mat. We start with a full reset on the mats—unlearning comfortable moves to design a style that truly fits. That process mirrors personal routines. Instead of drafting a to-do list at dawn and losing steam by noon, we moved goal setting and daily reminders to the moment work ends. The result is fresher motivation, a tighter window to act, and fewer excuses. It’s a simple micro adjustment with an outsized payoff, like tweaking grip pressure to make a pass unstoppable. From there, we dig into structure. Stacking alarms throughout the day might sound intense, but those cues teach your internal clock. Over time, you can feel when to switch tasks, take a break, or lace up for a workout. The training wheels come off as timing becomes intuitive. We also unpack a tougher truth: it’s harder to improve what already works than to fix what’s broken. That’s why the reflect-correct-apply loop matters. Break down your wins, hunt for hidden slack, and apply changes fast—next roll, next block of the day, next creative rep. If you’re chasing progress in relationships, career, comedy, or combat sports, the path is the same. Personalize your system, place small changes at leverage points, and keep iterating. Micro adjustments compound. Reset where needed, refine what’s good, and let your results prove the difference. If this resonates, follow along, share it with a friend who needs a push, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. What micro adjustment will you try today?
