    In this podcast, Dr Sam Kim explores the intimate relationship between oral health, lung disease and health of the whole human being.  In his interview of Dr Rachel Mascord, an outstanding dentist in Sydney, Australia, he again confirms the magnificence of wisdom and knowledge in dentistry is no different from that offered by the mainstream practice of Medicine. In the thirty years that Rachel has worked as a dentist, she has gained a degree of technical mastery that allows her to serve the physical needs of her patients. Central to her current and ever-developing service, she has through the gracious openness of her patients and their willingness to be honest about their lives, come to touch upon the wholistic nature of the human being and what oral health represents as part of each person’s entire life. This is an ever-present study in her clinical work. It not founded in knowing or in needing to know – we know so very little about what we are. Instead, it stands in absolute humbleness, and awe of the science that we are in Truth, and what this human body represents and means, in each of its parts and in the wholeness that takes in all that we are, not just those parts we can see, touch, measure and analyse.

    Is there a "perfect" timing for a procedure, treatment or advanced medical intervention when one is suffering from illness and disease?  There are several identifiable factors/elements to consider yet the the guidelines for clinicians are only a collective guide but not a prescriptive "rule" when the life of a human being is concerned.  The delicate balance of risk versus harm, and benefit vs harm must be addressed by the physician who is also aware of the real-world evidence and the guidelines or protocols of Medicine.

    Complexity of diagnosis: the importance of re-connecting to our bodies and symptoms of illness and disease

    When attending a medical consultation, it is important to deeply feel of the bodily symptoms as illness and disease do not develop overnight but evolve over days, weeks, months to years.  By neglecting how our body responds under the stressors of life, diagnosis is made more difficult and often more challenging because the physician will need to rely on the expectation of what certain diseases can derive certain combination of clinical signs and symptoms.  While the physician's approach is appropriate, the precision of Medicine is greatly magnified when the patient is able to discern what is true and what is not for his or her body when the ill-health strikes.
