How I Turned Grief Into Purpose | Losing My Mum, Healing & Refusing to Let Grief Define My Future

This episode is one of the most personal conversations I’ve shared. Five years ago, I lost my mum to stage four cancer. I was 30. I had two children under two. My son was 18 months old, my daughter was six months old… and I was trying to figure out how the f**k you keep living when someone you love is no longer physically here. For a long time, I sat in my grief. For nine months, I drank every day. What started as a glass of wine turned into a way of numbing what I didn't know how to feel, process or move through. Until one day, I woke up and decided I didn't want to feel like that anymore. I had two children watching me. I had a life in front of me. And I made a decision that I wasn't only going to live my life for myself anymore… I was going to live it for my mum too. In this episode, I'm sharing my personal experience with grief, losing my mum, healing after loss and the ways I've learned to carry her with me through every chapter of my life. I talk about the final days I spent with her, the grief my body still remembers five years later, my spiritual connection with her after death, the traditions I've created with my children and why “Gma is in the sun” will forever mean so much to our family. I also share the parts of grief we don't always talk about — numbing the pain, not knowing how to ask for support, holding onto guilt and resentment, and learning that moving forward doesn't mean leaving the person you love behind. I could have let grief define my future. Instead, I've turned my grief into purpose. I've turned it into passion. I've turned it into a reason to travel more, experience more, break generational cycles and live a life that I know my mum would be f*****g proud of. If you've lost your mum, a parent, a partner, a friendship or someone who held a special place in your heart… this episode is for you. You are not alone. You are never alone. And I see you. 🤍

How We’re Building Wealth in Our 30s | Money Mindset, Investing, Financial Freedom & Long-Term Wealth Strategy

Welcome back to Part 3 of this series with my husband Nic — and this one is all about money, wealth, investing, financial freedom and the education we wish we had years ago. After losing a significant amount of money, making bad investment decisions, and realising just how little we actually knew about building wealth, we knew something had to change. Over the last two years, we’ve completely shifted the way we think about money, assets, debt, investing, financial education and long-term wealth creation — both individually and as a family. In this episode, we’re sharing the conversations, lessons and strategies that have shaped the way we now approach financial freedom, from learning about Bitcoin, the S&P 500 and day trading, to understanding good debt vs bad debt, leverage, compound growth, mortgages, cash flow and building wealth that lasts. We talk about: the money lessons that came from losing a lot how Nic got into trading, charts and market cycles why financial education matters more than most people realise our thoughts on Bitcoin, the S&P 500 and long-term investing why paying off your mortgage early isn’t always the smartest move the difference between emotional decisions and strategic wealth decisions how we’re thinking about assets, leverage and financial freedom now what it means to build wealth with more intention, awareness and long-term vision This episode is for the person who knows there has to be more than working, paying bills, waiting for retirement and hoping it all works out. The person who wants to understand money better, think differently about wealth, and start building a life with more freedom, choice and long-term security. Breaking Generational Money Patterns: Our Story of Wealth, Freedom & Entrepreneurship (Part 1)

What shapes your relationship with money? Long before we earn our first dollar, we're absorbing beliefs about wealth, success, work, risk, and what's possible for our future. In Part 1 of this special 3-part series, Nic and I share our personal stories growing up, the money beliefs we inherited, and how our childhood experiences shaped the way we viewed wealth, financial freedom, and success. We unpack the realities of growing up in working-class families, the traditional path we were taught to follow, and the mindset shifts that helped us begin breaking generational money patterns. In this episode, we talk about: • Our childhood experiences with money and financial security• The money beliefs we inherited from family and society• Growing up without financial literacy or wealth education• How our careers in the Royal Australian Navy influenced our views on work and success• The difference between earning an income and building wealth• Breaking free from traditional thinking around money and security• The role of entrepreneurship, personal development, and financial education in creating freedom• Why wealth creation starts with awareness and mindset• The decisions that set us on a completely different path This conversation isn't just about money. It's about understanding where your beliefs come from, challenging the stories you've inherited, and realizing that your future doesn't have to look like your past. If you've ever felt stuck between the life you've been taught to live and the life you truly want, this episode will challenge you to think differently about wealth, success, financial freedom, and what's actually possible for your future. 🎙️ This is Part 1 of a powerful 3-part series exploring money mindset, wealth creation, entrepreneurship, financial freedom, investing, lifestyle design, and breaking generational patterns. 🖤🔥

The Power of Choosing Yourself | Healing, Growth, Self-Love & Starting Over

One year ago, Flick joined me on the podcast in the middle of one of the biggest transitions of her life. Now she's back for Part 2. In this deeply honest conversation, we reflect on what happens when you choose yourself, trust the unknown, and allow life to completely transform you. From leaving a 12-year marriage to spending a year living in Bali, this episode explores healing, self-discovery, personal growth, relationships, self-expression, and what it truly means to become the next version of yourself. We talk about: Life after divorce and rebuilding your identityThe lessons Bali teaches about healing and self-trustWhy healing isn't linearLearning to listen to your intuition and follow the nudgesSelf-sabotage, personal growth, and repeating life lessonsRelationships, dating after divorce, and emotional intelligenceSelf-expression, confidence, and owning who you areEntrepreneurship, freedom, and designing life on your termsWhy your environment can completely change your lifeThe power of making a decision and backing yourselfThroughout this conversation, we share the highs, the heartbreak, the breakthroughs, and the moments that shaped us over the last 12 months. Because growth isn't about becoming someone completely different. It's about stripping away the layers, trusting yourself enough to follow what's calling you, and becoming more of who you've always been. If you've ever felt stuck, scared to make a big decision, afraid to leave a chapter behind, or uncertain about what's next, this episode is your reminder that the life you want is often waiting on the other side of one courageous decision. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop negotiating with yourself and trust where life is trying to take you.

Health Is Wealth: The Missing Link Between Success, Money, Energy & Freedom

In this episode of She's The Standard Podcast, we're talking about a truth that most people completely overlook: Your health and your wealth are not separate conversations. After navigating a shoulder injury, surgery, recovery, and one of the most challenging mental and emotional seasons of my life, I was reminded of something powerful: Without your health, you have nothing. We live in a world where people are either chasing money while running themselves into the ground, or focusing so heavily on healing and wellness that they never build the life they truly want. The answer isn't choosing one or the other. It's learning how to build both. In this episode, I dive into: Why health is the foundation of wealthNervous system regulation and financial successThe connection between mindset, energy, leadership, and incomeBurnout culture and why "go harder" isn't always the answerBuilding a freedom-based lifestyle without sacrificing your wellbeingDaily habits that impact your health, confidence, and resultsWhy your business will only grow to the degree that you're willing to growThe relationship between physical health, mental health, and wealth creationWe also talk about the importance of movement, sleep, stress management, nutrition, environment, and becoming the kind of person who can actually hold the success they're chasing. Because the goal was never just to make money. The goal is to create a life where you have the energy, health, freedom, and presence to enjoy it. If you've been feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, or stuck in survival mode, this episode is your reminder to come back to the foundation. Protect your health.Build your wealth.Raise your standards. Because health isn't separate from success. Health is wealth. 🎙️💥

How She’s The Standard Became More Than a Podcast: One Year Later

One year ago, I hit publish on the very first episode of She’s The Standard Podcast. What started as a simple idea has grown into a movement, a community, and a space where thousands of women come every week to raise their standards, expand their mindset, and create lives they’re genuinely proud of. In this special anniversary episode, I reflect on the journey from my first podcasts, Soulful Mama and How Does It Get Any Better?, to the evolution of She’s The Standard and the woman I’ve become along the way. We talk about: The identity shift behind building a successful podcastConfidence, leadership, and finding your voiceConsistency and showing up when nobody is watchingPersonal growth, self-belief, and becoming the standardThe power of community and impactWhat I've learned from over 27,000 podcast downloadsWhy women need to stop playing small and start trusting themselvesI also share the story behind the She’s The Standard brand, the launch of our first merchandise collection, and why this community means so much more than numbers. This episode is a reminder that your voice matters. You don't need to have it all figured out before you start. You don't need permission. You just need the courage to take the first step and trust that the version of you you're becoming already exists. To every woman who has listened, shared an episode, sent a message, or allowed me into her ears every Monday morning — thank you. This is more than a podcast now. It's a movement. And we're only just getting started. 🎙️✨
