    What happens when a childhood idea becomes a comic book, a company, and a platform for representation? On this episode of The Last Shot Podcast, Co-Host Julien Serrano-O’Neil sits down with award-winning writer, cartoonist, public relations professional, entrepreneur, and creator Jaylen Christie for a conversation about creativity, ownership, representation, and turning passion into purpose. Jaylen takes us inside the story behind Stink Bomb Man and the Brain Kids, characters he first imagined as a child growing up in Tallahassee after realizing how few Black superheroes he saw on screen and on the page. Decades later, those childhood creations became a published comic book and the foundation for his independent company, Superfly Nerd Comic Co. The conversation explores Jaylen’s decision to retain ownership of his intellectual property, how his background in public relations helped him successfully launch and market the comic, and what he has learned from selling directly to readers, speaking in schools, and participating in the independent comics community. Jaylen also reflects on appearing as a panelist at San Diego Comic-Con for two consecutive years, his research on representation and social inequality, and why creating diverse characters is central to the universe he is building. Plus, he gives listeners a look at what’s next, including Thermosphere, the next chapter in the Stink Bomb Man and the Brain Kids universe, the planned six-issue series, and his larger vision for expanding these characters beyond comics.     The future of queer cinema is “unlimited.” On this episode of The Last Shot Podcast, powered by Last Shot Media Group, co-hosts Julien Serrano-O’Neil and Zachary Heneden sit down with Eli Morris (they/he), Director of Strategy and Programs for the Vancouver Queer Film Festival, ahead of the festival's 38th edition. From its beginnings with films projected onto bedsheets in a living room to a festival featuring 87 films across Vancouver, Eli takes us inside the evolution of VQFF and the continued importance of authentic, queer-made storytelling. We explore the meaning behind the 2026 theme, “A Seat at the Table,” how VQFF is expanding whose voices shape its programming, and why representation must go beyond simply seeing queer and trans people on screen.
