Your Body Changed After 40: Your Genes May Hold Clues

If you’re a woman over 40 wondering why your body suddenly feels different—even when your lab results say everything is “normal”—this episode of the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast may help you look at your health in an entirely new way. Poor sleep. Unexplained fatigue. Inflammation. Low energy. Mood changes. A body that no longer responds to the healthy routines that used to work. For many women navigating perimenopause, menopause and midlife, the question becomes: What is my body trying to tell me? In this fascinating conversation, Lynnis Woods-Mullins sits down with Kim Ressler, founder and CEO of Snap Nutrigenomics, to explore how nutrigenomics, genetic testing and personalized nutrition may provide another piece of the wellness puzzle. Kim shares her own 11-year search for answers and how understanding her genetics finally helped connect some of the dots. Together, we break down nutrigenomics in everyday language and explore how genetic variations may influence the way your body processes nutrients and supports pathways related to inflammation, oxidative stress, detoxification, immune function and vitamin D. You'll also discover why taking more supplements isn't necessarily better—and why a more personalized approach to supplementation may help eliminate some of the expensive guesswork. We dive into: Methylation, folate and folic acid and why the differences may matterHow genetics may provide additional context for concerns involving energy, mood and overall wellnessThe difference between information from DNA testing, blood work and hormone panelsWhy your current lab results represent a moment in time while your inherited DNA remains largely stableHow personalized nutrition and supplementation may help you make more informed wellness decisionsImportant questions to ask before genetic testing about privacy, data sharing, sample storage and biobankingAnd here's the good news: you don't need genetic testing to begin supporting your health today. We close with simple, powerful wellness foundations that can support women throughout midlife and healthy aging: prioritizing quality sleep, making sustainable nutrition changes, moving your body consistently, managing stress and staying connected to community. If you're between 45 and 55 and navigating perimenopause, menopause, fatigue, inflammation, changing nutritional needs or simply the feeling that your body isn't working quite the way it used to, this conversation is especially for you. Your body isn't asking you to give up. It may simply be asking you to pay attention differently. 🎧 Listen now and discover how understanding your unique biology could help you make more informed choices about your health after 40. Subscribe to the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast, share this episode with another woman navigating midlife, and leave a review to help more women discover empowering, science-informed conversations about menopause, healthy aging, holistic wellness and thriving after 40. Bio  Kim Ressler is the Founder and CEO of SNiP Nutrigenomics, a women-led biotech delivering DNA-personalized foundational nutrition to consumers and the practitioners who care for them.   After more than a decade searching for answers conventional medicine couldn't provide, Kim discovered that the specific genetic variants shaping her body's nutrient needs were the missing link. Once she addressed them through nutrigenomic precision, her energy, cognitive clarity, and overall resilience transformed, and SNiP was born.   She founded SNiP in 2022 to bring nutrigenomics — the science of how individual genes determine nutritional needs — out of elite performance clinics and longevity centers and into the hands of everyone. SNiP's flagship product, CODE Complex®, is a beautifully simple, made-to-order precision supplement formulated from each person's genetic profile.   Under Kim's leadership, SNiP now partners with more than 600 wellness providers and serves a rapidly growing community across North America. Escape the Diet Prison: How to Trust Your Body Again After 40

Your body isn’t failing you in midlife — but menopause, stress, changing hormones, and years of dieting may be changing the way your body responds to food, hunger, energy, and even your emotions. In this episode of the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast, I sit down with Regina Oswald, author and ICF coach, for an important conversation about menopause, midlife weight struggles, emotional eating, cravings, intuitive eating, and rebuilding trust with your body after 40. If you’ve ever wondered why the things that worked for you in your 20s and 30s don’t seem to work anymore, this conversation is for you. Regina shares the story behind her Body Mind Harmony Method and explains how years of dieting, restriction, tracking, and relying on willpower can make it harder to recognize your body’s natural hunger and fullness signals. We talk about how women can begin listening to those signals again without jumping into another restrictive diet. We also explore the connection between the nervous system, cortisol, chronic stress, sleep, emotional eating, and menopause — and why supporting your nervous system may be an important part of creating sustainable wellness in midlife. Regina shares a simple awareness practice you can use before eating to create a moment between an urge and your response. We also talk about the power of celebrating small wins, changing the way you speak to yourself, and creating habits that actually fit the woman you are becoming. But this conversation goes beyond food and weight. We talk about what it means to age consciously and boldly, stay physically and mentally engaged, rediscover your purpose, and imagine what you want the next chapter of your life to look like. If you are a woman over 40 or 50 navigating menopause, changing hormones, stress, cravings, emotional eating, midlife weight changes, or simply trying to feel more at home in your body, this episode offers a refreshing way to think about wellness. Because midlife isn’t the time to declare war on your body. It’s time to learn how to work with it. 💜 Subscribe to the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast for conversations about menopause, holistic wellness, stress, nutrition, healthy aging, self-care, and creating a vibrant life after 40. If this episode speaks to you, share it with another woman who needs to hear it and leave a comment: What is one thing your body has been trying to tell you lately? Bio Regina Oswald is an author, speaker, ICF-certified coach, and creator of the Body–Mind Harmony Method. At 48, she lives in sunny California near the Pacific Ocean, where nature, family, reflection, and community help shape a life centered on balance, creativity, growth, and intention. Regina’s journey has taken her through many chapters, including entrepreneurship, motherhood, wellness coaching, fashion design, philanthropy, leadership, and her own personal transformation. Each of these experiences has contributed to the philosophy behind the Body–Mind Harmony Method—a compassionate and conscious approach to wellness rooted in emotional well-being, nourishment, self-worth, and personal growth. Her book, Liberation from the Diet Prison, brings this philosophy to life, encouraging women to rethink their relationship with food, their bodies, and themselves. Its message continues to influence Regina’s work as a speaker, writer, coach, and leader, as well as the communities she serves. Perimenopause, Cortisol & Belly Fat: What Your Hormones Are Trying to Tell You

You’re exhausted but can’t sleep. Your brain feels foggy. Your mood has changed, stubborn belly fat seems to appear from nowhere, painful periods derail your life, or recurring UTIs keep coming back. If you’re in your 40s, 50s, or beyond, these symptoms aren’t something you should automatically dismiss as “just getting older.” In this episode of V.I.B.E. Living Podcast, Lynnis Woods-Mullins sits down with osteopathic physician Dr. Jeffrey Brown, who specializes in hormone imbalance and chronic pelvic pain, to uncover what may really be happening when hormones begin to shift during perimenopause and menopause. We explore hormone imbalance, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), estrogen dominance, cortisol, chronic stress, gut health, sleep disruption, brain fog, weight changes, and recurrent urinary symptoms—and how these seemingly separate issues may be more connected than many women realize. Dr. Brown explains what hormone therapy actually means, how BHRT approaches hormonal symptoms, and why the conversation about hormones extends far beyond hot flashes. We discuss the role hormones can play in sleep, bone health, cardiovascular health, cognitive function, mood, energy, and overall quality of life. We also take a closer look at one of the biggest disruptors of hormonal health: chronic stress and cortisol. Why can you feel completely exhausted all day and suddenly wide awake at night? What does “wired but tired” really mean? And how can long-term stress make navigating menopause and perimenopause even harder? The conversation goes deeper into estrogen dominance and gut health, including the estrobolome and the role the gut plays in estrogen metabolism. Dr. Brown also discusses when more comprehensive hormone testing may be useful and how everyday exposure to potential endocrine disruptors—including certain plastics, fragrances, cosmetics, and other environmental exposures—may affect hormonal health. Most importantly, this episode is about helping women become better advocates for themselves. If you’ve been told your symptoms are simply part of aging—or you know something has changed in your body but haven’t been able to connect the dots—this conversation can help you understand what questions to ask and what options to explore with your healthcare provider. Why You Still Feel “Off”: Trauma, Grief & Emotional Healing in Midlife

If you’ve been feeling anxious, emotionally exhausted, disconnected, or like something is “off,” you’re not alone. Many women are carrying unprocessed grief, trauma, anxiety, and emotional burnout after years of stress, loss, and major life changes. In this episode, I talk with Barbara Palmer, CEO of BP Life Coaching Services and author of Healthy, Happy Whole, about trauma, grief, depression, and emotional healing in midlife and beyond. We explore what trauma really is, how it affects us (even indirectly), and the emotional impact of the COVID-19 years—especially for those who never had space to fully process what they went through. Barbara also shares signs that emotional distress may need professional support, including ongoing loss of joy, emotional shutdown, and changes in daily functioning. We also clarify why depression should always be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional. We then dive into unprocessed grief—why it can resurface unexpectedly and how to meet those moments with compassion instead of judgment. You’ll also learn simple, practical tools for emotional healing, including the question “Is that true?”, a 20-minute gratitude writing practice, and why affirmations don’t always work when subconscious beliefs are in conflict. Barbara also introduces her neuroscience-based MAP (Make Anything Possible) approach and shares insight into how the ego can resist change, even when we’re ready to heal. If you’re navigating grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, or a major life transition, this conversation offers support, clarity, and practical tools to help you move toward emotional wellness. Permission to Grieve: How to Carry Loss Without Losing Yourself (Grief Support & Midlife Healing)

One sentence can change the way you carry loss—and for our guest Laura Bratton, that sentence was, “I want to give you permission to grieve.” In this deeply moving conversation, Laura—an author, speaker, and resilience coach—shares how she learned to move forward without denying the pain of what she had lost. After beginning to lose her sight at age nine and becoming completely blind by the end of high school, she faced depression, daily panic attacks, and the difficult work of rebuilding her identity and independence. Laura reveals why she initially rejected gratitude and how one simple daily practice eventually transformed her mindset: writing down three things she was grateful for. This wasn’t about being thankful for the hardship. It was about recognizing the support, tools, relationships, and resources that helped her navigate it—including the guide dog that restored a powerful sense of freedom. We also explore mindfulness as a practical tool for interrupting anxiety, learning to recognize that thoughts are not always facts, and responding to fear with greater awareness. Laura offers a refreshing definition of grit—not as pushing through pain or “getting over it,” but as combining self-compassion with the courage to take the next step. If you are navigating grief, trauma, anxiety, disability, or an unexpected life transition, this episode offers an honest and hopeful approach to resilience. You’ll discover how gratitude, mindfulness, and self-compassion can help you carry what happened without allowing it to define what happens next. Subscribe to the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast, share this episode with someone who needs encouragement, and leave a review telling us the insight you’re choosing to carry forward. Bio  At the age of nine, Laura was diagnosed with an eye disease and faced the difficult reality that she would become blind. Over the next ten years she experienced the traumatic transition of adjusting to life without sight.  Laura adjusted to her new normal and was able to move forward in life as she graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in psychology. She then was the first blind student to receive her Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.  She is the author of the book, Harnessing Courage. Laura founded Ubi Global, which is an organization that provides speaking and coaching to empower all people to overcome challenges and obstacles with grit and gratitude. Burned Out or Drifting? How Women Over 40 Can Reclaim Their Energy & Purpose

If you are a woman over 40, burnout doesn't always come from working too hard. Sometimes it happens because you've slowly drifted away from the life you actually want. If you're a woman over 40 juggling career demands, family responsibilities, aging parents, relationships, and everyone else's expectations, you may recognize the feeling: you're constantly busy, yet somehow disconnected from yourself. In this powerful episode of the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast, we explore why so many midlife women feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and stuck—and how to begin finding their way back. Our guest is Dr. Cynthia Bentzen-Mercer, a board-certified executive coach, human capital strategist, and bestselling author who introduces a powerful framework she calls "drift"—the gradual, often unnoticed movement away from your values, priorities, and well-being. Together, we discuss why burnout is often an alignment problem rather than simply a workload problem. Cynthia shares her practical Five Ps of Human Flourishing—People Health, Physiological Health, Purpose, Prosperity, and Potential—and explains how they can help you identify where your energy is leaking and where meaningful change can begin. We also discuss the early warning signs of burnout, including chronic exhaustion, Sunday-night anxiety, emotional depletion, and the subtle ways women become trapped in cycles of complacency, avoidance, or constant caretaking. One of the most actionable moments of the conversation is Cynthia's Seven-Minute Pivot, a simple daily practice designed to help you stop feeling overwhelmed and begin making meaningful progress one intentional step at a time. We also tackle the difficult topics of boundaries, guilt, people-pleasing, and why learning to say "no" is often one of the healthiest decisions a woman can make. Whether you're navigating career burnout, a season of reinvention, empty nesting, caregiving, or simply wondering why life no longer feels aligned, this episode offers practical tools and fresh perspective to help you reconnect with what matters most. Cynthia also shares resources to continue your journey, including her diagnostic assessment and her books, Now, Near, Next, and Human Capital Investment Strategy. If this conversation encourages you, subscribe to the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast, leave a review, and share this episode with another woman who may be ready to stop drifting and start living with greater purpose, energy, and intention. Her books Now, Near, Next, and Human Capital Investment Strategy have earned USA Today, LA Times, and Amazon bestseller recognition. She hosts the podcast Climbing the Corporate Ladder Without Breaking a Heel and speaks on stages ranging from Fortune 500 leadership forums to women's conferences worldwide. Feeling Invisible After 40? How to Build a Personal Brand That Opens Doors

Have you ever felt like you've changed—but the world still sees the old version of you? For many women over 40, life brings a season of reinvention. Whether you're starting a business, changing careers, pursuing a long-forgotten dream, or simply stepping into a new chapter, one question quietly lingers: How do I help others see the woman I've become? The answer may be something you've never considered—your personal brand. It's not about becoming an influencer or creating a polished online image. It's about making sure your voice, values, experience, and purpose are reflected in the way the world sees you. In today's crowded digital landscape, learning how to communicate who you are authentically may be one of the most important investments you can make in your next chapter. In this inspiring episode of the V.I.B.E. Living Podcast, I'm joined by Chanoa Inez, creator of MAGNETIZE YOUR PERSONAL BRAND™ and author of Dream On: How to Create the New Life of Your Dreams After Upheaval and Loss. Together, we unpack what personal branding really means—and why it's far more than a logo, polished headshot, or perfectly curated social media feed. A magnetic personal brand begins on the inside. It's built on confidence, clarity, boundaries, authenticity, and the courage to own your story before you ever market yourself. If you've been showing up online but still feel invisible... if you've wondered why others seem to attract opportunities while you're working twice as hard... or if you're standing at the edge of a midlife pivot wondering how to confidently introduce this next version of yourself, this conversation is for you. We also explore: • How to build a memorable personal brand without pretending to be someone you're not. • The difference between authenticity and oversharing. • Why visibility creates trust faster than words alone. • How to overcome the fear that often accompanies career transitions and midlife reinvention. • The one thing AI—and your competitors—can never duplicate: your unique voice, values, and life experience. Whether you're launching a business, growing your influence, changing careers, starting a podcast, or simply rediscovering who you are after 40, this episode will inspire you to step into your next chapter with greater confidence and purpose. The Hidden Cause of Chronic Pain Every Woman Over 40 Should Know

What if the real source of your chronic pain isn't where it hurts? Millions of women live with persistent pain, stiffness, frozen shoulder, sciatica, headaches, or unexplained tension—even after normal scans, physical therapy, injections, or being told that everything "looks fine." In this eye-opening episode, we explore one of the most overlooked pieces of the wellness puzzle: fascia—the connective tissue that supports every muscle, organ, nerve, and joint in your body. Joining us is Gwen Bernardo, a John Barnes–trained myofascial release therapist, who explains why restrictions within the fascial system can create pain patterns that don't always match the original injury—and why treating the body as one interconnected system can unlock lasting relief. Gwen shares her remarkable personal journey after a devastating horseback riding accident left her struggling with chronic shoulder pain, knee injuries, concussion symptoms, and years of physical limitations. When traditional treatments failed to provide lasting answers, myofascial release transformed not only her pain but also the emotional weight her body had quietly been carrying for decades. Together, we dive into the powerful connection between chronic stress, trauma, the nervous system, and fascia. You'll discover how prolonged fight-or-flight and freeze responses can become physically stored in the body, why emotional memories sometimes surface during bodywork, and how combining somatic healing with traditional approaches can create deeper, more complete healing. Gwen also walks us through exactly what happens during a myofascial release session, why sustained gentle pressure allows tissue to soften and rehydrate naturally, what recovery feels like afterward, and how long results may last. We also discuss why this approach is gaining attention for women navigating frozen shoulder, sciatica, chronic tension, menopause-related pain, and other stubborn conditions that often don't respond to conventional care alone. Before we wrap up, Gwen shares a simple five-minute self-care technique you can practice at home using a soft therapy ball to help release trigger points, improve mobility, and begin caring for your fascia between treatments. If you've been living with chronic pain, unexplained stiffness, stress-related tension, or you're searching for natural approaches to healing, this conversation offers hope, practical insights, and a fresh perspective on how your body is designed to heal. In This Episode You'll Learn: • What fascia is and why it's essential for pain-free movement • Why chronic pain often persists even when imaging appears normal • The connection between fascia, trauma, chronic stress, and the nervous system • How myofascial release therapy works and what to expect during treatment • Why frozen shoulder, sciatica, headaches, and other pain conditions may be linked to fascial restrictions • A simple at-home technique to help reduce tension and improve mobility If this episode inspired you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who has been searching for answers beyond conventional pain management. Bio I’ve always been deeply passionate about wellness and hands-on healing, but my path into myofascial release was quite unexpected.  After years of various horseback riding injuries, I was living with chronic pain that gradually took over my daily life. Traditional approaches—physical therapy, chiropractic care, massage—offered only brief relief. Sometimes the pain returned before I even made it back to my car. Eventually, I was told my remaining options were to live with it or have surgery, and emotionally, that was devastating. I knew there had to be another way—one that addressed not just my physical pain, but the deeper impact it was having on my life. After I received my first myofascial release treatments, I knew immediately my body had found what it needed. The results were profound, not only physically but emotionally as well. This experience completely changed my perspective on what is possible with healing and I made the decision to switch careers and become a myofascial release therapist. Today, I’m pain-free. I’ve returned to all of my personal and professional activities without limitation. Most importantly, I’m back to fully loving my life.  Now, I’m passionate about helping others discover the same relief and hope that myofascial release gave me.
