I’m so sorry for what happened to your son. I cried several times just imagining being in your shoes. But my goodness you told a beautiful story of your son and kudos to you for all of your investigative work! Don’t stop until you get the answers you deserve 💕.
Great podcast. Wish it didn’t include the racial undertones though.

This is not a race issue. Chicago PD is one of the most diverse PDs in the country. White officers only make up 47% of the police force. This is an issue where the police dept sees so much death and gang violence that they have become completely desensitized to it and to change that, you need to change the community. Kids need to grow up with 2 parents so they aren’t looking at these gang members as role models.

I just want to start by saying how incredibly sorry I am for Courtney losing his life so senselessly 😥 Ms Shapearl your ability to articulate your pain, share Courtney’s story all while creating a podcast, holding down your household, working, building relationships in your community & beyond is absolutely outstanding. As a white woman I am always amazed by the strength of black mothers. The things yall have to endure in your lives is so incredible unfair. But you didn’t complain about it. You used it to try & make Chicago a safer place for black children & black people in general. Your voice carry’s so much weight. The level of violence & hatred for people of color in LE all over our country is vile & grotesque. This podcast was very well done. Your investigation was thorough. You never backed down & always stood 10 toes down. I cried with you & for you so many times during the course of the 7 episodes. I wish I could hug you & your whole family. Thank you for sharing Courtney with us & keeping his vibrant memory alive. Love & light to you & your family Ms Shapearl. Your words, your spirit & determination are truly an inspiration.
