    Founded mid-earthquake in 2006 by singer Rebecca Garza-Bortman and bassist Chad Thornton, San Francisco’s My First Earthquake delivers a bold, synth-riddled indie electro-pop sound. Channelling the energetic, multi-instrumental jumpiness of Of Montreal and the sharp hooks of The Kills, the band became a staple of the Bay Area music scene. Across their primary run through 2011, they released two full-length albums (Downstairs and Friction) and threw legendarily sweaty live dance parties. The four get into what it's like for McKay to produce and help musicians record remotely, how the iPad is revolutionizing sound design, and finding visual artists for music videos. In between, we get to hear some of McKay's production talents with other musicians as well as his solo work.
