I’m a Radio & Podcast Producer plus Host, Voice Over Artiste / Voice Actor & MC. These sessions are conversations with people whom I find very interesting. Either their personality or their work / cause shines through & in most cases both! Most whos celebrity value amongst Indians or internationally cannot be questioned, some who have risen to the occasion & despite personal & professional pressure have shown the light to us. Some speak on very relevant & topical themes, others speak about their lives in a manner that shall make sense even if we hear this decades from now. I try to listen more than I speak & ask relevant questions based on a combination of my laborious research & study on them or the theme they are covering plus elements of my own intuition about them that come to the fore as the conversation unfolds.     Probal discussed the upcoming Max City VOW Literature Festival, explaining that its purpose is to celebrate diverse voices and ideas in Mumbai, which he described as India's gateway to the world. He outlined the festival's theme "One World, Many Words," which aims to provide a platform for different perspectives on global issues, including conflicts, gender, and environmental concerns. Probal emphasized the importance of engaging and embracing diverse opinions rather than shaping a single opinion. The festival will take place on March 28-29 at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai, with a schedule available on the Maxcity Lit Fest Instagram handle. Lit Fest Structure and Planning Probal explained the structure of the upcoming Lit Fest, highlighting two main sessions: a welcome session focused on contemporary issues and non-fiction works, and a panel discussion on the West Asia war, which has been rescheduled to day two due to rapidly changing circumstances. The West Asia panel will explore the direction of the conflict and its implications for India, featuring panelists Ambassador TCA Raghavan and Menaz Merchant. Hrishi announced that Homi Bhabha State University will also serve as a venue for the festival this year, and mentioned Probal's book "General Brass Tacks" which will be featured in a session titled "Five Assassinations and an Arms Deal." General Sundarji's Life and History Probal discussed his upcoming panel on General Sundarji's life and the 1980s, highlighting key events including political assassinations and an arms deal. He explained how he discovered that Sundarji's life parallelled India's post-independence history, revealing new details through research such as Sundarji's presence at Mahatma Gandhi's funeral and raising the tricolor in Pakistan on Independence Day 1947. Probal described the writing process as revealing more about Sundarji's life than initially expected, transforming the book from focusing solely on the 1980s to telling a broader story of India's history through Sundarji's perspective. Operation Brass Stacks Military Exercise Probal discussed his book "Operation Brass Stacks," which details a significant military exercise from the 1980s that was four times larger than NATO exercises and the biggest mobilization since World War II. He explained that the operation, led by General Sundarji, aimed to defend India's borders while launching strikes into Pakistani territory to target nuclear facilities. Probal noted that these important historical events are often overlooked in India due to military history not being widely popular outside military circles, and he sought to "de-jargonize" the story to make it more accessible to the general public. General Sundarji Book Discussion Probal Dasgupta discussed his book on General Sundarji, describing him as India's most important military strategist who influenced both military and political decisions in the 1980s. He explained how writing the book involved personal excavation of memories from growing up in the 1980s, including events like Operation Blue Star and the Sri Lankan campaign.     we all miss naz thats the gorgeous iranian actress nazanin boniadi - who excused herself from this second season of the lord of the rings : the rings of power. however, tyroe who plays `theo` her son and ismael who plays `arondir` her lover miss her like hell, of that there is no doubt. it is no surprise then that this conversation spends quality time talking about naz and her character `bronwyn`. tyroe has grown in height and maturity since i met him at the season one premiere in mumbai. the aussie lad and me had spoken a fair bit about cricket i remember but this time, in singapore at the season 2 red carpet and premiere it was all about him tackling a lot of darkness and heavy emotions as an actor at such a young age!     JD Payne has the widest smile in hollywood and hes always smiling! helps that hes cowritten `Star Trek Beyond`, `Godzilla vs Kong`, `Jungle Cruise` and now is Showrunner & Executive Producer on The Lord of the Rings : The Rings of Power seasons one and two. Markella Kavenaghs `nori` is easily the most loved character over two seasons of the amazon prime video series and stunning as she is off screen she messes herself up for the young adventurous harfoot girl quite nicely!     i was really looking forward to my 2nd meeting with the very accomplished charles edwards after my 1st tryst with him in mumbai when `the lord of the rings : the rings of power` season 1 released and the asia junket was held in mumbai city. this time it was destination singapore where amazon prime video india flew a few of us senior journalists down for the red carpet and premiere for season 2. charles wecolmed me warmly and along with the very talented charlie vickers (who plays the darklord sauron) proceeded to give me a splendid interview covering a lot of ground. in particular all that is happening in the world of the elvin smith celebrimbor whom he portrays. edwards is a legend in british theatre and has won 2 SAG awards for his role in `the crown`. he can also be seen on tv and film in `downton abbey` , `the duke`, `the witches` and others. watch out for vickers - he has the easy charm of a future hollywood blockbuster star and 2 seasons of rings of power have already sent him in the direction of worldwide stardom. enjoy this podcast and do tell me what you feel post hearing it in the comments below! “The HrishiKay Sessions” are produced & presented by Hrishikesh Kannan popularly known as Hrishi K Thanks for listening.     i know sumeet raghavan from a time when we were both voice artists going in and out of a historic dubbing / recording studio in the late 90s and early 2000s called `radiowani` in mumbais worli area. we met after ages and exchanged so many notes and stories from the days gone by. hes now a stand up comedian and actor extraordinaire and if anyone needed a modern day version of rk laxmans famous `common man` as eulogised by the great cartoonists daily illustrations on the cover of the times of india it had to be sumeet. let me add to that - wagle ki duniya the tv hit which was such a rage in the 90s directed by the great kundan shah was based on this very common man. and when the trio who comprise modern day tv royalty thats jd majethia, atish kapadia and sameer kulkarni decided to bring back the epic series with a modern twist as `wagle ki duniya nayi peedhi naye kisse` they turned to raghavan to reprise the role originally played by the brilliant anjan srivastava. mrs wagle in the original was bharati achrekar and now pariva pranati takes over and does such a brilliant job. the duo rolled in with so many little joyful nuggets theyve shared, BTS moments - all ready to share. and we celebrated the completion of 1,000 episodes on sony sab tv and sony liv of indias favourite slice of life comedy series. congratulations guys and the rest of u pls do let me know what u think of this wonderful chat featuring sumeet, pariva and yours truly?! “The HrishiKay Sessions” are produced & presented by Hrishikesh Kannan popularly known as Hrishi K Thanks for listening.     this is an epic interview. `manthan` the iconic film was financed by 500,000 milk farmers in rural #Gujarat (paying Rs 2 each) in 1976 as their mark of gratitude towards the milk cooperative that dr kurien helped them form! Today the print has been restored by the `film heritage foundation` and shown at the `cannes classics` section at `festival de cannes` to a rousing reception & a standing ovation. shivendra singh dungarpur from the film heritage foundation , the great naseeruddin shah & the master auteur shyam benegal tell me never before tales of the movies making & restoration. How kaifi azmi wrote the dialogues, vijay tendulkar co wrote the story, prahlad kakkar & kalpana lajmi assisted shyam babu , how govind nihalani on camera & Dr Kurien himself were so solid at every stage of the movie making process🙌 and the magic of smita patil that still endures.
