    Suicide Loss and Advocacy

Suicide loss can change how you relate to the world—and it can also change how you feel about “advocacy,” awareness events, and suicide prevention efforts. In this episode, I’m reflecting on what I noticed while Journey Thru Grief participated as a vendor at two community walks hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). I met suicide loss survivors who shared something I hear often: “I wish I had known support like this existed sooner.”We’ll talk about advocacy after suicide loss in a real, survivor-centered way, including:• Why some survivors choose to attend suicide prevention walks (and why some don’t)• How it can feel to want community and still want privacy at the same time• The complicated emotions that can come up around suicide prevention when prevention didn’t save your loved one• A permission slip: you are allowed to participate—or not participate—in your own way• Practical tips if you’re considering a walk or community event and want a softer, safer experience If you’re looking for suicide loss support or suicide bereavement support, you’re welcome here. Take what helps. Leave what doesn’t. There’s no rush, and no “right” way to be a survivor.Important note: This podcast offers peer support and education—it is not therapy and not crisis care. If you are in the U.S. and need immediate help, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). If you’re outside the U.S., contact your local emergency number or crisis line.
