Songs for Hard Places: Finding Faith and Hope Through Music - Sol Fenne

What happens when the words we normally use aren't enough to describe what we're carrying? In this episode of the GraceStory Podcast, Nate is joined by Sol Fenne, a musician, songwriter, and church elder serving in Gracemount, Edinburgh, Scotland. Sol spent nine years as a drummer in the Royal Marines, later served as a police officer, and eventually became involved with 20schemes and its work in some of Scotland's most economically disadvantaged communities. Today, Sol and his wife, Carlie, lead His Estate, a music ministry creating Scripture-centered songs that aren't afraid to enter into the harder parts of life. Nate and Sol talk about the unique ability music has to give us language for experiences we sometimes struggle to put into words. They explore grief, depression, trauma, addiction, doubt, biblical lament, the pressure to put on a "Sunday smile," and what happens when churches create room for people to be honest about suffering instead of rushing toward easy answers. They also discuss how music can help us remember truth when we don't necessarily feel it, why Christian songs should make room for both celebration and sorrow, and the responsibility that comes with writing songs about deeply painful experiences. Music isn't a replacement for counseling, medical care, or professional mental-health treatment. But sometimes a song can meet us in a hard place and give us words when we don't have our own. (Part 2) Healthy Sexuality: Your Questions Answered - Nate Davison, Erin Pritchard, Rosie McKinney, & Darren Signs

Content Note: This episode includes frank, educational discussion of sexuality, intimacy, sexual behaviors, addiction, and betrayal. These topics are discussed in the context of mental health, relationships, faith, recovery, and healthy sexuality. Some content may not be appropriate for younger listeners, so listener discretion is encouraged. We’re back with the second and final part of our Healthy Sexuality Live Q&A. In this conversation, Nate Davison is joined again by Erin Pritchard of Sea Glass Counseling, Rosie McKinney of Fight for Love Ministries, and Pastor Darren Signs of Encounter Church to continue answering anonymous questions submitted by our audience. Together, the panel approaches sexuality from several different perspectives, including counseling and mental health, lived experience and advocacy, pastoral ministry, relationships, and Christian faith. Healthy sexuality involves much more than a list of what we should or shouldn’t do. Our sexuality intersects with our relationships, experiences, wounds, choices, faith, and sometimes our need for healing. In Part 2, we continue creating space for honest questions about subjects that can be difficult to discuss, particularly within the church. If you haven’t listened to Part 1, we recommend starting there and then coming back for the conclusion of the conversation. In this Q&A panel you'll hear conversation around: Healthy sexuality from a Christian perspective Sexual addiction and the journey toward recovery Partner betrayal and its impact on relationships Intimacy within marriage Shame, grace, and restoration Navigating difficult conversations about sexuality Practical steps toward healthier relationships and healing Our hope isn't simply that you learn something from this conversation. We hope it helps you consider your own next step toward restoration. Want to join the LIVE conversation next time? Some content may not be appropriate for younger listeners, so listener discretion is encouraged. Healthy Sexuality LIVE Q&A (Part 1): Addiction, Betrayal, Intimacy & Restoration Join the GraceStory Podcast for Part 1 of our Healthy Sexuality LIVE Q&A, featuring Erin Pritchard of Sea Glass Counseling, Rosie McKinney of Fight for Love Ministries, and Darren Signs of Encounter Church. Sexuality can be one of the most difficult topics to talk about honestly, especially within the church. In this conversation, our panel explores healthy sexuality through the lenses of addiction recovery, partner betrayal, marriage, intimacy, faith, and restoration.
