A Second Chance Starts with an Opportunity

What does successful reentry really look like? On this episode of Beyond County Lines, we sit down with First Judicial District Court Judge Jason Lidyard, Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility Warden Derek Williams, and New Mexico Reentry Center Founder and Executive Director Natasha Garcia for a conversation about breaking the cycle of incarceration and helping people successfully rebuild their lives. From employment and housing to identification, treatment, peer support, and simply having someone willing to walk alongside you, our guests discuss the barriers people face after incarceration and why meeting basic needs can make the difference between returning to custody and moving forward. Natasha also shares how her own lived experience with addiction and incarceration shaped her approach to helping others navigate that same journey. The conversation also looks ahead to the Re-Entry Fair on October 10, where community organizations and service providers will come together to connect formerly incarcerated individuals with resources including identification and vital records, employment assistance, Medicaid and benefits enrollment, housing resources, behavioral health and substance use services, and more. Because sometimes a second chance isn't just about wanting to change. It's about having the opportunity, resources, and people around you to make that change possible.
