The Hidden Gems podcast began as an independent project by Julia Hesse-Fong, Sofia Garrick, and Kimika Padilla. Originally featuring “hidden gems” —locations around Chicago that connect people to their urban environment—the podcast evolved in Spring 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our new episodes, Hidden Gems: Quarantine Edition, document life in Chicago during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of places, we chose to highlight people and organizations, and their efforts to promote resilience and maintain urban identity in the face of a global health crisis.     The pandemic has disrupted food pathways and underscored the importance of equitable access to nutrition, at the same time as more families in the U.S. face food insecurity. In this episode we speak with two inspiring leaders who have dedicated their careers to addressing domestic and global food insecurity.     What happens to urban space, and our relationship with the natural and built environment, when people have to retreat indoors?
