There's also the minor (I mean major) fact that Club Tocumwal recently opened their brand new clubhouse to service the membership and local community. A bright future ahead for Club Tocumwal and it's great to see significant investment like this from the golf club. There's also a whole heap of other news including the final state graduate of the year award winner announced and more course improvements at golf clubs such as Noosa Golf Club, Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Resort, Eastlake GC, Rosanna GC, The Dunes Golf Links, and a new superintendent is set to join Country Club Tasmania in Launceston. EP.188 Keeper of the Greens - Callum Hitching (Karratha Golf Club)

Keeper Of The Greens segment of The Golfing Greenkeeper Podcast is brought to you by John Deere Golf. The golf course at Karratha is a local public community asset that not so long ago was upgraded from sand putting greens to grass greens which Callum was heavily involved with. The course also went through a redesign at the same time. Prior to his current position, Callum leaned his trade at Busselton Golf Club. After completing his time at Busselton, Callum was soon taking the controls leading the team at Busselton as superintendent where he was able to improve the course over a number of years. After a short stint away from the industry and back again, plans were being setup to redesign Karratha GC and Callum's name was being put forward as the man to take Karratha to the next level. Load up and get set for a trip to somewhere few people ever venture to in real life as Callum takes us through his career and what it's like looking after a unique Australian golf course in a magical and remote part of the country! EP.187 The Design Brief - Scott Champion (Harrison Golf)

The Design Brief segment of The Golfing Greenkeeper Podcast is proudly brought to you by McMahons. Check out their website to get a better understanding of their suite of services and outstanding portfolio of work at www.mcmahons.net.au Scott Champion might not quite be a household name just yet, but I'm certain you have heard of some of the work he has been involved with. An early part of Scott's golf course architecture career involved a start at Greg Norman Golf Course Design working with a couple of architects such as Bob Harrison and Harley Kruse. Fast forward a few years and Bob Harrison decided to start his own design firm and he asked Scott to join him in the business. Yes, Scott has been part of Harrison Golf since it's inception! Scott tells us about his early years getting into the industry after which we get stuck into one of Harrison Golf's more famous designs - Ardfin in Scotland. There's a great story here before we stop next to focus on a current Harrison Golf project in detail, being the redesign of the well known Newcastle Golf Club to the north of Sydney. As always there's a few rabbit holes and Scott shares his insights and thoughts of golf course architecture, so join us for a wonderful chat on the new and improved version of The Design Brief brought to you by McMahons. Ever wondered about how everything gets done to present a golf course for a national televised tournament like the men's Australian Open but you don't see anyone working on the golf course? Well, if you've ever had a fleeting thought about what goes on behind the scenes of a golf course to prepare it for a tournament at the highest level, then this two part podcast series is for you! Part 2 brings you the final 2 days of course preparation for the men's Australian Open at Royal Melbourne. Mother Nature swings a full 180 from day 1, with showers and cold weather coming in. This significantly changes the earlier reserved directives from tournament officials and the shackles come off the greenkeeping staff. All the tricks are pulled out to bring as much life to the greens of the famed Composite Course and you'll hear the lengths the team goes to in an effort to get the most out of the greens. Part 2 also brings to life the personal element of tournament preparation with a few short interviews throughout the weekend sharing just what is involved in some of the detail of tournament prep through the eyes of the staff, and what it means to work at such an iconic golf course, during an iconic tournament, within a wonderful team! An big thank you goes to Royal Melbourne Golf Club's Director of Courses, Richard Forsyth, for allowing me the access and opening up to the team being involved in this project, and also to Beschen Pou who was with me every step of the way assisting in all the recording and capturing of the content. An enormous thank you to everyone working at the tournament, both Royal Melbourne course maintenance staff and course maintenance volunteers, that helped me create this podcast. A particular thank you and credit to each of these people as follows: Adrian Alley, Michael Clavin, Oliver Davis, Adam Dinte, Richard Forsyth, Craig Geeve, James Gorniak, Ben Hasker, Lauchy Hay, Matt Isbester, Harvey Jones, John Kaminski, Ronan Keating, Karyn Kremer, Ashleigh Larkin, Emma Lewis, Brad Milne, Stuart Moodie, Gerri O’Callaghan, Beschen Pou, Henry Sexton, Nic Staff, Paul Thomas, Jacob Warpinski. Growing up, helping around the course with his Dad, and playing golf meant Keenan only ever really had eyes on golf in his future. When Keenan finished school he got offered an apprenticeship but it wasn't local to home. No, it was in Adelaide city, far away from the country life he grew up in. It was time to head to the big smoke and take on all that would lay before him. He learnt from some of the best in the industry and one of the best golf clubs in Adelaide and here he would spend 9 years in total before things needed a change. Jumping to today, Keenan is Golf Course Superintendent himself and leads a small, young, energetic team of greenkeepers that maintain the course at Flagstaff Hill Golf Club in the hills to the south east of the city. A golf course in a unique landscape that is moving forward in leaps and bounds recently with a new clubhouse, some course improvements, and the addition of a mini golf course, there's plenty to learn experience and enjoy at Flagstaff Hills GC To fill in the gaps, hear about preparing for a few Australian Women's Opens, and learn about a golf course you may have never heard about before, grab yourself a Warragamba Slammer (or preferred drink of choice) to stay hydrated as I take you into a lesser known South Australian golf course! EP.182 Walking the Fairways - feat. Jared Kendler (Moore Park Golf Course)

Walking the Fairways segment of The Golfing Greenkeeper Podcast is proudly brought to you by Envu and you can find out where to buy their products here , and also by Dint Golf Solutions and you can check out their website www.dint.com.au Having been over a year since we had an update from the inside regarding the future of Sydney's famous public Moore Park Golf Course, I am joined once again by Jared Kendler. Jared has been leading the charge to save Moore Park Golf Course under its current arrangement of 18 holes. With the looming deadline of July 1st getting ever closer when the NSW state government announced they will begin carving up half of the golf course, I felt it appropriate and timely to get an inside update on the current state of affairs and if there's any change to the governments decision to reduce Australia's busiest 18 hole golf course down to 9. There's also other news including the commencement of the redevelopment of the public North Adelaide Golf Course by the SA state government (in high contrast to that of the NSW state government), Mandurah Country Club in WA is beginning the upgrade of their entire golf course irrigation system, Gisborne Golf Club in Victoria opens their brand new clubhouse, Bondi Diggers GC in Sydney is forced to shut down their 2nd hole, Garfield Golf Club have rebuilt their 11th and 15th tees, and Port Fairy Golf Links has a new Superintendent in town. This episode has a flavour of public golf course information and there's plenty more!
