WHAT WENT WRONG

What Went Wrong covers Hollywood’s most notoriously disastrous movie productions, digging into the behind-the-scenes insanity of everything from massive flops to record-breaking blockbusters. In each episode, hosts Lizzie Bassett and Chris Winterbauer dive into a new film to explore the mind-blowing (and sometimes numbing) reasons why making a movie is nearly impossible (especially a good one). Love this podcast! I have worked in the entertainment biz for 18 years and yet, I learn new and interesting information on each episode! Well researched and delivered. The storytelling is wonderful and I love the passion with which, Chris and Lizzie talk about the films. Favorite podcast. Full stop.

A favorite stand-up/writer of mine (Demi Adejuyigbe) recently referenced this podcast in his Malcolm X review on Letterboxd. Demi is a former host of music/comedy/informational deepdive pod Punch Up the Jam, some of my favorite content. I figured his taste is worth trusting. Lizzie, Chris and David are clearly so passionate about this project and bring a cozy millennial energy to analyzing the stories of making your favorite stories. Every episode gives you innumerable factoids that make you laugh, make you think, make you curious. The Galaxy Quest episode made me cry! I look forward to every new upload & I’m frequently tapping the archive for joy. Really good stuff!

I’ve never written a podcast review and this is probably the only time I’ll do it. I wish there was a new episode every day. The show is funny, interesting, and informative…a lot of podcast hosts really get on my nerves but Chris and Lizzie are amazing. 🤣
Good information unlikable duo.

There are a ton of movie podcast most are terrible. This one offers a substantial change in format neither roasting terrible movies nor drooling on fan favorites. Two types that make up much of the podcast in the genre. Instead this podcast is more about the trials a film go through prior to be seen. And as far as that it’s super informative and basically is a catch all so you don’t have to buy a bunch of books on movies. When the show leans into this it’s a solid show. Unfortunately the great qualities can become hard to hear when you really listen to more than a few shows. Chris in particular is one of most condescending people I’ve ever heard speak. I feel bad because obviously he has some traumatic experience with religion where his British personality tends to shine more often. Though it pops up more than just about that topic. The lady seems nice and is much more likable than Chris. My only concern is for a person who “loves” film she seems hate not dislike but hate alit of the films. Could this affect her going forward? Idk but I hope not. Listen if you can look past a douchenozzle because you love film then give this a listen. But there are infinitely more likable host and equivalent podcasts out there.
So good

Well researched plus the hosts just love movies. Such good listening. Every episode is so good even you do t know the movie.
Rhythm and host

I really like the three episodes I’ve heard and the insight. But, I don’t understand the “host” as she sounds like someone randomly walking into the sound booth when it’s the few times she speaks. Plus the main speakers rhythm is that of reading a transcript.
A great break from the politics

Thank you for this show! I am a recent discoverer of WWW and I can’t get enough. It’s the only show I am listening to right now. I am catching up, starting from the very beginning and working my way forward. The hosts are hysterical and bring industry knowledge to well researched, humorous, enlightening episodes about movies both great and not-so-great. Their episode on Dr Doolittle had me in stitches. As a fan of movies I have seen almost all of the ones they talk about and I go back and watch the ones I haven’t see. Between this, Unspooled, and You Must Remember this, I am in Cinema Paradise. Thank you again for What Went Wrong where each episode goes so Right.
