Friday Family Film Night: EXIT 8 review

In which the Mister joins me in reviewing EXIT 8 (2025), with screenplay credits to Kentaro Hirase and Genki Kawamura and based off Kotake Create's video game, the film is directed by Genki Kawamura.  A man named "The Lost Man" (Kazunari Ninomiya) finds himself inexplicably trapped in an endless, sterile subway corridor that loops back on itself whenever he makes a mistake.  To escape this liminal purgatory, he must meticulously observe his surroundings and follow a strict set of rules: turn back if he spots an anomaly, and proceed only when the hallway appears perfectly normal.  As he repeats the journey to reach the elusive "Exit 8," he is forced to confront his own deep-seated anxieties and existential guilt, transforming the simple game-inspired premise into a haunting exploration of isolation and the human condition.  The film clocks in at 1 h 35 m, is rated PG-13 and we caught it in theaters.  Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. #Exit8 #KotakeCreate #KentaroHirase #GenkiKawamura # KazunariNinomiya #TheLostMan #YamatoKochi #WalkingMan #NaruAsanuma #TheBoy #NanaKomatsu #LostManPartner #KotoneHanase #HighSchoolStudent #TaraNakashima #MotherOnTrain #HirotaOtsuka #ScreamingManOnTrain #Japanese #BodyHorror #FolkHorror #MonsterHorror #PsychologicalHorror #PsychologicalThriller #SupernaturalHorror #Action #Adventure #Horror #AAPI #AsianAmerican #PacificIslanders #AsianStories #NewRelease #InTheaters  #FridayFamilyFilmNight Opening intro music: GOAT by Wayne Jones, courtesy of YouTube Audio Library

Friday Family Film Night: CRAZY RICH ASIANS review

In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing CRAZY RICH ASIANS (2018), from screenwriters Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim, from the best selling novel by Kevin Kwan, the film is directed by Jon M. Chu.  Native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), to his best friend's wedding in Singapore, only to discover that he comes from one of the wealthiest and most influential families in Asia.  Thrust into a world of opulence and high-stakes social maneuvering, Rachel finds herself the target of jealous socialites and Nick's formidable, disapproving mother, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh) who believes she is not a suitable match for the family heir.  As she attempts to navigate this unfamiliar and judgmental environment, Rachel must decide if her love for Nick is worth the challenge of defying the strict expectations of his elite heritage.  The film clocks in at 2 h, is rated PG-13 and we caught it on HBO Max.  Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. #CrazyRichAsians #KevinKwan #AdeleLim #PeterChiarelli #JonMChu #ConstanceWu #Rachel #HenryGolding #Nick #MichelleYeoh #Eleanor #GemmaChan #Astrid #LisaLu #AhMa #Awkwafina #PeikLinGoh #HarryShumJr  #Charlie #KenJeong #WyeMunGoh #SonoyaMizuno #AramintaLee #ChrisPang #Colin #JimmyOYang #Bernard #RonnyChieng #Eddie #RemyHii #Alistair #NicoSantos #Oliver #JingLusi #Amanda #CarmenSoo #Francesca #PierrePng #Michael #FionaXie #Kitty #VictoriaLoke #Fiona #JaniceKoh #Felicity #AmyCheng #Jacqueline #ChiengMunKoh #Neenah #CalvinWong #PT #KhengHuaTan #Kerry #ConstanceLau #Celine #SelenaTan #Alix #RomanticComedy #Comedy #Drama #Romance #AAPI #AsianAmerican #PacificIslanders #AsianStories  @HBOMax  #FridayFamilyFilmNight Opening intro music: GOAT by Wayne Jones, courtesy of YouTube Audio Library
